Bikaner Schools Unite Against Plastic: Scouts & Guides Lead Massive Polythene Boycott Rally in Kolayat

In a spirited display of environmental consciousness and community participation, the Hindustan Scouts and Guides, Rajasthan State District Headquarters, Bikaner, organized a large-scale Polythene Boycott Rally in Kolayat block today. The rally, which saw enthusiastic participation from school children, teachers, and local community members, carried a powerful message against the use of harmful plastic materials, especially single-use polythene bags that continue to plague rural and urban landscapes alike.

The initiative was conducted under the direction of District Organizer Deepak Mehra, who has been leading several awareness drives across Bikaner district. Today’s rally was centered at Government Senior Secondary School, Bithnok, and also involved students from Government Primary School Ram Darbar, along with support from teachers and community leaders.

The event commenced with Vice Principal Anita Kumari of the senior secondary school and Headmaster Sitaram of the Ram Darbar primary school jointly flagging off the rally. Their symbolic gesture of waving the green flag not only marked the beginning of the march but also represented the broader call for a greener, cleaner future for Rajasthan’s desert regions.

Students marched through the streets of Bithnok, holding placards, raising slogans, and engaging with local shopkeepers and residents about the perils of polythene usage. Their chants of “Say No to Polythene, Save the Environment” echoed through the lanes, drawing significant attention from villagers. The event was coordinated and anchored by District Trainer Anjali Upadhyay, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the long-term dangers of plastic waste on soil fertility, livestock health, and groundwater.

She highlighted that while polythene may appear as a cheap and convenient solution for packaging and daily use, its environmental cost is immeasurable. Cows and camels in Rajasthan’s rural belts often ingest plastic, leading to fatal blockages, while open burning of polythene pollutes the air and worsens respiratory diseases.

The Scouts and Guides’ participation made the event more impactful. Known for their discipline and community service orientation, the young participants symbolized the hope of a new generation committed to sustainable living. By marching together, they showcased how educational institutions can become the epicenter of awareness movements, extending their reach far beyond classrooms.

The rally concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, where students, teachers, and community representatives vowed to reduce plastic usage in their daily lives and encourage others to adopt cloth or jute alternatives. The event not only spread awareness but also inspired villagers to commit towards phasing out plastic bags from local markets.

The movement aligns with national campaigns such as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Rajasthan’s increasing push for green initiatives. With desert ecology already under stress due to water scarcity and rising temperatures, curbing polythene use is seen as a crucial step in protecting fragile rural environments.

This rally, though local in scale, represented a broader call to action: that grassroots communities can lead the fight against plastic pollution, and children—when guided with the right values—can emerge as true changemakers.

पर्यावरण संरक्षण और स्वच्छता के संकल्प के साथ आज बीकानेर जिले के कोलायत ब्लॉक में पॉलिथीन बहिष्कार रैली का आयोजन किया गया। हिंदुस्तान स्काउट एंड गाइड राजस्थान राज्य जिला मुख्यालय बीकानेर के तत्वावधान में आयोजित इस कार्यक्रम ने ग्रामीण इलाकों में प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण के खिलाफ एक सशक्त संदेश दिया।

रैली का नेतृत्व जिला ऑर्गेनाइजर दीपक मेहरा के निर्देशानुसार किया गया। मुख्य आयोजन स्थल राजकीय उच्च माध्यमिक विद्यालय बिठनोक रहा, जिसमें स्थानीय छात्रों और शिक्षकों ने बढ़-चढ़कर हिस्सा लिया। इसके अलावा राजकीय प्राथमिक विद्यालय राम दरबार के संस्था प्रधान सीताराम जी तथा राजकीय उच्च माध्यमिक विद्यालय की उप प्रधानाचार्य अनीता कुमारी ने हरी झंडी दिखाकर रैली को रवाना किया।

छात्र-छात्राओं ने हाथों में तख्तियां लेकर नारे लगाए – “पॉलिथीन छोड़ो, पर्यावरण बचाओ”, “धरती मां की यही पुकार, पॉलिथीन का करो बहिष्कार”। बिठनोक की गलियों से गुजरती यह रैली ग्रामीणों का ध्यान अपनी ओर आकर्षित करती रही। स्थानीय दुकानदारों से भी संवाद किया गया और उनसे पॉलिथीन की जगह कपड़े या जूट के थैले अपनाने की अपील की गई।

कार्यक्रम प्रभारी और जिला ट्रेनर अंजली उपाध्याय ने संबोधन में बताया कि पॉलिथीन का उपयोग दिखने में भले आसान लगे, लेकिन इसका नुकसान गंभीर है। यह न केवल मिट्टी की उर्वरता को नष्ट करता है, बल्कि खुले में चरने वाले पशुओं की जान के लिए भी खतरा बन जाता है। राजस्थान जैसे मरुस्थलीय क्षेत्र में, जहां जल संकट पहले से गंभीर है, प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण समस्या को और बढ़ा देता है।

रैली के अंत में सभी विद्यार्थियों और ग्रामीणों ने सामूहिक शपथ ली कि वे पॉलिथीन का प्रयोग नहीं करेंगे और अपने आस-पड़ोस में भी इसके खिलाफ जागरूकता फैलाएंगे।

यह आयोजन स्थानीय स्तर पर भले छोटा हो, लेकिन इसका प्रभाव गहरा रहा। स्काउट्स एंड गाइड्स के अनुशासित और जोशीले बच्चों ने यह साबित कर दिया कि आने वाली पीढ़ी पर्यावरण संरक्षण की असली वाहक है।

राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर चल रहे स्वच्छ भारत अभियान और राज्य सरकार की हरित पहल से यह कार्यक्रम सीधे जुड़ता है। बीकानेर के गांवों से निकली यह आवाज स्पष्ट करती है कि यदि जमीनी स्तर पर समाज जागरूक हो जाए, तो प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण को हराया जा सकता है।
