Border Roads Organisation’s Project Chetak Leads Swachhata Campaign at Junagarh Fort in Bikaner

The historic city of Bikaner witnessed a unique blend of military discipline and civic responsibility when officers and personnel of the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) Project Chetak launched a large-scale cleanliness drive at the iconic Junagarh Fort. The campaign, organised under the theme “Ek Ghanta, Ek Din, Ek Saath” (One Hour, One Day, Together), was part of the nationwide Swachhata Mission and highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in preserving heritage sites.
A Historic Fort, A Modern Mission
Junagarh Fort, an architectural marvel built in the late 16th century by Raja Rai Singh, has long stood as a symbol of Bikaner’s royal heritage. Its sprawling courtyards, temples, and palaces attract thousands of visitors every year. However, with increasing footfall, maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the fort has become a major challenge.
Recognising this, the BRO’s Project Chetak – known for building and maintaining critical border infrastructure across Rajasthan and adjoining regions – decided to extend its discipline and manpower to the cause of civic and cultural preservation.
The Campaign in Action
On a bright morning, the BRO officers, junior commissioned officers, and jawans assembled at Junagarh Fort, armed not with construction tools this time, but with brooms, garbage bags, and cleaning equipment. For over an hour, they meticulously cleaned the fort premises, sweeping courtyards, clearing litter from pathways, and ensuring that the surrounding areas were left spotless.
Senior officers of Project Chetak supervised the drive, while also participating shoulder-to-shoulder with the jawans, exemplifying the military ethos of leading by example. The sight of uniformed BRO personnel cleaning a centuries-old fort became a powerful image of civic-military synergy.
Presence of Senior Leadership
The campaign was not merely symbolic. All senior officers of Project Chetak, including commanding and supervisory staff, actively took part. Their presence reinforced the message that leadership in both the armed and civilian spheres must take ownership of such initiatives. According to participants, the turnout and enthusiasm were overwhelming, proving that with collective determination, even small efforts can yield visible results.
Echoing the Swachhata Mission
The theme “Ek Ghanta, Ek Din, Ek Saath”, adopted across the nation as part of the Swachhata Mission, stresses the importance of dedicating one hour a day to cleanliness. For the BRO, whose motto itself revolves around “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” (Everything is Achievable Through Hard Work), this campaign was a natural extension of their work ethic.
Speaking on the occasion, a senior officer remarked:
“Just as we build and maintain roads in the most difficult terrains to serve the nation, it is equally our duty to contribute towards building a clean and sustainable environment. Junagarh Fort is not just a monument, it is a legacy, and preserving it is our collective responsibility.”
Civic Engagement and Local Response
Local residents and visitors to the fort were moved by the campaign. Many lauded the BRO for going beyond its primary mandate of infrastructure development to engage in community initiatives. Some tourists, inspired by the drive, joined the personnel in their efforts, lending the event a truly participatory character.
Heritage experts pointed out that such initiatives not only ensure cleanliness but also raise awareness about respecting cultural landmarks. By involving military personnel, the campaign sent out a strong signal about discipline, teamwork, and national pride.

Project Chetak plans to engage in more outreach activities, tying their engineering expertise and manpower strength to community development projects. As the cleanliness drive concluded, the gleaming courtyards of Junagarh Fort stood as testimony to the idea that when citizens and soldiers unite, even the smallest effort can create lasting impact. बीकानेर की ऐतिहासिक धरोहर जूनागढ़ किला गुरुवार को एक अनोखे दृश्य का गवाह बना, जब सीमा सड़क संगठन (Border Roads Organisation – BRO) के चेतक प्रोजेक्ट के अधिकारियों और जवानों ने यहां स्वच्छता अभियान चलाया। यह कार्यक्रम ‘एक घंटा, एक दिन, एक साथ’ की थीम पर आयोजित किया गया और इसे स्वच्छता मिशन से जोड़ा गया।
ऐतिहासिक धरोहर, आधुनिक जिम्मेदारी
16वीं सदी में बने जूनागढ़ किले को बीकानेर की शान माना जाता है। इसकी विशाल प्राचीर, आंगन और मंदिर हर साल हजारों पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करते हैं। लेकिन पर्यटकों की भीड़ और समय के साथ रख-रखाव की चुनौतियां भी बढ़ती जा रही हैं। ऐसे में चेतक प्रोजेक्ट ने न केवल अपनी इंजीनियरिंग क्षमता बल्कि सामाजिक जिम्मेदारी का भी परिचय देते हुए इस स्वच्छता अभियान का नेतृत्व किया।
अभियान की शुरुआत और गतिविधियां
सुबह के समय अधिकारी और जवान किले के आंगनों और गलियारों में सफाई सामग्री के साथ जुट गए। झाड़ू, कचरा बैग और सफाई उपकरणों से उन्होंने एक घंटे तक लगातार सफाई अभियान चलाया। आईएनएस घड़ियाल पर सड़कें बनाने वाले हाथ इस बार विरासत स्थल को साफ करने में लगे थे।
सीनियर अधिकारी खुद जवानों के साथ शामिल हुए और उन्होंने यह संदेश दिया कि नेतृत्व केवल आदेश देने में नहीं बल्कि स्वयं उदाहरण पेश करने में है।
वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों की मौजूदगी
इस मौके पर चेतक प्रोजेक्ट के सभी वरिष्ठ अधिकारी मौजूद रहे। उनकी सक्रिय भागीदारी ने यह साबित किया कि किसी भी संगठन का नेतृत्व तभी प्रभावी होता है जब वह जमीन पर अपने लोगों के साथ खड़ा हो।
स्वच्छता मिशन का सशक्त संदेश
‘एक घंटा, एक दिन, एक साथ’ का नारा पूरे देश में स्वच्छ भारत मिशन के अंतर्गत चलाया जा रहा है। चेतक प्रोजेक्ट के अधिकारियों ने कहा कि जिस तरह वे सीमाओं और कठिन इलाकों में सड़कें बनाकर राष्ट्र सेवा करते हैं, उसी तरह धरोहर स्थलों को स्वच्छ रखना भी उनका कर्तव्य है।
एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने कहा:
“जूनागढ़ किला केवल एक स्मारक नहीं है, यह हमारी धरोहर है। इसे साफ-सुथरा और संरक्षित रखना हर नागरिक की जिम्मेदारी है। आज हमारे जवानों ने दिखाया कि सैनिक केवल सीमाओं पर नहीं, बल्कि समाज और संस्कृति की रक्षा में भी योगदान करते हैं।”
स्थानीय प्रतिक्रिया
स्थानीय नागरिक और पर्यटक इस पहल को देखकर उत्साहित हो उठे। कई पर्यटक भी इस सफाई अभियान में शामिल हो गए। आम लोगों ने कहा कि यह कदम न केवल किले की साफ-सफाई के लिए उपयोगी है बल्कि आने वाली पीढ़ियों को विरासत स्थलों के महत्व का संदेश भी देता है।
चेतक प्रोजेक्ट की व्यापक भूमिका
सीमा सड़क संगठन का चेतक प्रोजेक्ट पश्चिमी राजस्थान और भारत-पाक सीमा क्षेत्रों में रणनीतिक सड़क निर्माण के लिए जाना जाता है। लेकिन इस तरह की गतिविधियां यह दर्शाती हैं कि सेना और उससे जुड़े संगठन केवल सीमाओं की रक्षा ही नहीं, बल्कि राष्ट्र निर्माण और सामाजिक विकास में भी अग्रणी भूमिका निभा रहे हैं।
