Fire and Fury Corps Marks 26th Raising Day: A Saga of Bravery, Service, and Development in Ladakh

Amid the rugged mountains, biting winds, and unmatched strategic importance of Ladakh, the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps celebrated its 26th Raising Day on 01 September 2025 in Leh. The occasion was not merely a ceremonial milestone; it was a profound reminder of the sacrifices, achievements, and unyielding commitment of the Corps that guards some of the most challenging frontiers of the nation.
The day began with solemnity as Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, UYSM, SC, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Fire and Fury Corps, laid a wreath at the Hall of Fame War Memorial in Leh. The tribute was on behalf of all ranks of the Corps, honouring the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty during various military operations in Ladakh. Their sacrifices remain etched not only in the annals of the Army but also in the soul of Ladakh.
Legacy Born of Kargil’s Flames
The Fire and Fury Corps has its roots in the aftermath of Operation Vijay (1999), the Kargil War, when the necessity of a dedicated Corps for Ladakh became evident. Consequently, on 01 September 1999, Fire and Fury Corps was formally raised in Leh, tasked with the herculean responsibility of defending India’s northern and western borders in Ladakh.
From the icy heights of Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, to the treacherous approaches of Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO), Demchok, Zojila, and Kargil, Fire and Fury Corps has shouldered the mantle of safeguarding India’s sovereignty. It is often said that while the terrain challenges man’s endurance, it also forges an unbreakable bond between the Army and the land it protects.
More Than Defenders – Architects of Ladakh’s Future
Over the years, Fire and Fury Corps has gone beyond its primary role of national defence to become a key driver of Ladakh’s socio-economic transformation. The Corps has consistently extended its reach into the lives of people across remote valleys, ensuring that development and prosperity touch even the farthest villages.
One of its flagship initiatives is the Vibrant Village Program (VVP), under which the Corps has directly supported 43 border villages. The program addresses essential needs such as infrastructure, livelihoods, and social services, aiming to reverse migration trends and strengthen the civilian presence in these critical frontier zones.
Furthering its community-driven mission, the Corps has executed 618 Operation Sadbhavana projects in the last two years. These projects, bridging the gap between UT Administration’s initiatives and people’s aspirations, have left an indelible mark on Ladakh’s remote and underserved areas.
Nurturing the Torchbearers of Tomorrow – Education and Youth Empowerment
Education has been a central focus of Fire and Fury Corps’ community engagement. The Indian Army runs seven Army Goodwill Schools in far-flung areas such as Karu, Dras, Pratap Pur, Bogdang, Tyakshi, Farona, and Harka Bahadur. These schools collectively educate 2,472 students, nurturing both boys and girls with quality education in regions where access to learning remains a challenge.
The Corps has also provided scholarships to 55 students since 2023 for schooling in Army Public Schools and 20 students for higher education across India. Through dedicated coaching programs like Kargil Ignited Minds and Leh Ignited Minds, students have achieved remarkable success, with 72 clearing NEET and 21 clearing JEE examinations since 2022.
In an unprecedented achievement, coaching for the All India Sainik School Entrance Exam benefited 66 students, with 46 of them successfully qualifying, reflecting the Army’s determination to create opportunities for the youth of Ladakh. Additionally, 28 Operation Sadbhavana projects since 2023 have uplifted infrastructure in remote schools, including libraries and basic facilities.
National Integration and Sports – Building Bridges and Champions
Recognising Ladakh’s youth as the torchbearers of India’s unity, Fire and Fury Corps has organised 26 National Integration Tours (NITs) since 2023. These tours exposed 400 children and community members to India’s diverse culture and development by visiting cities and institutions across the country.
Sports, too, are central to the Corps’ outreach. Traditional competitions like the Fire and Fury Ice Hockey Championship, Archery contests, and Horse Polo tournaments continue to nurture local talent and preserve Ladakh’s sporting heritage. With over 15 ice hockey kits gifted to teams in remote areas, the Army has ensured that children in distant valleys remain connected with opportunities to excel.
In addition, the Corps regularly organises mountaineering expeditions on unexplored peaks, promoting adventure, tourism, and physical endurance among the youth and civilians.
Health, Welfare, and Environmental Stewardship
Fire and Fury Corps’ role as a guardian extends beyond borders to the health and well-being of Ladakhis. Since 2023, the Corps has organised 66 medical camps and 21 veterinary camps across remote villages. Ambulances have been stationed in isolated areas such as Changthang, Chushul, Durbuk, Demchok, Phobrang, Maan, and Merak, ensuring timely healthcare for both civilians and tourists.
The Corps has also taken significant strides toward environmental preservation. Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem demands care, and the Army has executed 20 environmental projects in the last two years. Efforts include the removal of 130 tons of solid waste from Siachen Glacier and 14 tons of plastic waste from Nyoma in 2025, alongside tree plantations and solar energy initiatives. The construction of 27 community centres and 11 solar projects highlights the Army’s commitment to sustainability.
Veterans, Women, and Community Welfare
Ex-servicemen, veer naris, and dependents remain at the heart of Fire and Fury Corps’ welfare measures. More than 45 rallies and meetings have been conducted since 2024 to address their concerns and extend assistance.
Women’s empowerment has been championed through dedicated centres at Khumbathang, Hanuyogma, and Nimu, providing training and entrepreneurship opportunities. Notable ventures such as the Pashmina Weaving Centre in Chushul, Acheley Block Printing Facility in Shachukul, and the Sanitary Napkin Manufacturing Centre in Martselang have created sustainable livelihoods for women in remote regions.
Celebration of Service and Commitment
The Raising Day celebrations concluded on a note of pride and unity. Members of the Ladakh Women’s Ice Hockey Team were honoured by the Corps for their contributions to sports and society. In recognition of excellence within the ranks, 24 Army personnel were felicitated for their outstanding performance.
On this solemn and auspicious day, all ranks of Fire and Fury Corps reaffirmed their oath to defend India’s borders with unflinching courage while also committing to the continued growth and development of Ladakh.
A Pillar of Strength in Ladakh
As Fire and Fury Corps marks its 26th year, it embodies more than military might; it represents hope, resilience, and an unwavering bond with the people of Ladakh. Stationed in some of the harshest terrains known to mankind, the Corps not only safeguards India’s sovereignty but also nurtures the region’s progress.
From the war-scarred heights of Kargil to the silent expanse of Siachen, from the classrooms of Army Goodwill Schools to the women empowerment centres in remote villages, Fire and Fury Corps remains a living testament to the Indian Army’s ethos – service before self.
On this Raising Day, the message is clear: the flame of Fire and Fury burns not only on the battlefield but also in every initiative that lights up Ladakh’s future.

फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स ने मनाया 26वां स्थापना दिवस: शौर्य, सेवा और लद्दाख के विकास की गाथा

लद्दाख की बर्फीली चोटियों और कठिन भूगोल के बीच भारतीय सेना की फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स ने 01 सितम्बर 2025 को अपना 26वां स्थापना दिवस मनाया। यह अवसर केवल औपचारिकता भर नहीं था, बल्कि उन बलिदानों, उपलब्धियों और अदम्य संकल्प का प्रतीक था, जिसने इस कॉर्प्स को भारत की उत्तरी और पश्चिमी सीमाओं का सबसे मजबूत प्रहरी बना दिया है।
कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत भावुक पलों से हुई जब लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल हितेश भल्ला, UYSM, SC, SM, VSM, जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग (GOC), फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स ने हाल ऑफ फेम वॉर मेमोरियल पर माल्यार्पण किया। यह श्रद्धांजलि उन वीर सैनिकों के नाम थी, जिन्होंने लद्दाख में विभिन्न सैन्य अभियानों के दौरान सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया।
कारगिल की ज्वालाओं से जन्मी फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स
फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स की नींव ऑपरेशन विजय (1999) यानी कारगिल युद्ध के बाद रखी गई। युद्ध के अनुभवों ने साफ कर दिया था कि लद्दाख के लिए एक अलग कॉर्प्स की आवश्यकता है। इसी क्रम में, 01 सितम्बर 1999 को लेह में फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स का गठन हुआ।
आज यह कॉर्प्स सियाचिन ग्लेशियर, दौलत बेग ओल्डी (DBO), डेमचोक, जोज़िला और कारगिल जैसे रणनीतिक क्षेत्रों की सुरक्षा करता है। यह वही क्षेत्र हैं जहाँ न केवल मौसम बल्कि भूगोल भी इंसानी हौसलों को चुनौती देता है। लेकिन भारतीय सेना के जवान इस कठिनाई को अपने साहस से मात देते हुए सीमाओं की रक्षा करते हैं।
सिर्फ रक्षक नहीं – लद्दाख के भविष्य के निर्माता भी
सालों से फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स ने केवल सुरक्षा का दायित्व ही नहीं निभाया, बल्कि लद्दाख के सामाजिक और आर्थिक विकास में भी अहम भूमिका निभाई है।
वाइब्रेंट विलेज प्रोग्राम (VVP) के तहत कॉर्प्स ने 43 सीमावर्ती गाँवों को सीधा सहयोग दिया। इन प्रयासों का उद्देश्य है बुनियादी सुविधाओं को पहुँचाना, आजीविका के साधन उपलब्ध कराना और पलायन को रोककर सीमा पर नागरिक उपस्थिति को मजबूत करना।
इसके अलावा, पिछले दो वर्षों में कॉर्प्स ने 618 ऑपरेशन सद्भावना परियोजनाएँ पूरी कीं। इन परियोजनाओं ने केंद्र शासित प्रदेश प्रशासन और दूरस्थ क्षेत्रों के लोगों की आकांक्षाओं के बीच सेतु का काम किया।
लद्दाख के युवाओं को गढ़ने का संकल्प – शिक्षा और सशक्तिकरण
फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स की सबसे बड़ी प्राथमिकता रही है – शिक्षा। सेना द्वारा संचालित सात आर्मी गुडविल स्कूल (करू, द्रास, प्रतापपुर, बोगडांग, त्याक्षी, फरोना और हरका बहादुर) में आज 2,472 विद्यार्थी पढ़ रहे हैं।
साल 2023 से अब तक 55 विद्यार्थियों को आर्मी पब्लिक स्कूलों में शिक्षा हेतु और 20 विद्यार्थियों को उच्च शिक्षा हेतु छात्रवृत्ति दी गई। ‘कारगिल इग्नाइटेड माइंड्स’ और ‘लेह इग्नाइटेड माइंड्स’ जैसी पहल के जरिए लद्दाखी छात्रों को NEET और JEE जैसी प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की कोचिंग दी गई। नतीजतन 72 छात्रों ने NEET और 21 छात्रों ने JEE परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की।
ऑल इंडिया सैनिक स्कूल प्रवेश परीक्षा की तैयारी हेतु कॉर्प्स ने 66 छात्रों को कोचिंग दी, जिनमें से 46 छात्र सफल हुए। वहीं, पिछले दो वर्षों में 28 सद्भावना परियोजनाएँ दूरदराज़ के विद्यालयों के पुस्तकालय और बुनियादी ढाँचे को उन्नत करने के लिए पूरी की गईं।
राष्ट्रीय एकता और खेलों से जोड़ना
लद्दाख के युवाओं को देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों से जोड़ने के लिए कॉर्प्स ने 26 नेशनल इंटीग्रेशन टूर (NIT) आयोजित किए, जिनसे 400 से अधिक विद्यार्थी और समुदाय सदस्य लाभान्वित हुए।
खेलों के क्षेत्र में भी कॉर्प्स ने विशेष भूमिका निभाई है। हर वर्ष फायर एंड फ्यूरी आइस हॉकी चैंपियनशिप, तीरंदाजी प्रतियोगिता और घुड़सवारी पोलो टूर्नामेंट आयोजित किए जाते हैं। अब तक 15 से अधिक आइस हॉकी किट्स दूरस्थ गाँवों की टीमों को प्रदान की गईं।
साथ ही, कॉर्प्स नियमित रूप से माउंटेनियरिंग अभियानों का आयोजन करता है, जिससे रोमांचक खेलों और पर्यटन को बढ़ावा मिलता है।
स्वास्थ्य, कल्याण और पर्यावरण की रक्षा
फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स ने पिछले दो वर्षों में 66 चिकित्सा शिविर और 21 पशु-चिकित्सा शिविर आयोजित किए। चांगथांग, चुशुल, दुर्बुक, डेमचोक, फोब्रंग, मान और मेरक जैसे दूरस्थ गाँवों में एंबुलेंस मुहैया कराई गईं।
पर्यावरण संरक्षण की दिशा में भी कॉर्प्स ने अग्रणी भूमिका निभाई है। पिछले दो वर्षों में 20 पर्यावरणीय परियोजनाएँ पूरी की गईं। इनमें सियाचिन ग्लेशियर से 130 टन ठोस कचरा और न्योमा से 14 टन प्लास्टिक कचरा हटाया गया। साथ ही 27 सामुदायिक केंद्र और 11 सौर ऊर्जा परियोजनाएँ बनाई या उन्नत की गईं।
पूर्व सैनिकों और महिलाओं के लिए सहयोग
कॉर्प्स ने 2024 से अब तक 45 से अधिक बैठकें और रैलियाँ आयोजित कीं, जिनमें पूर्व सैनिकों, वीर नारियों और आश्रितों की समस्याएँ सुनी और हल की गईं।
महिला सशक्तिकरण की दिशा में भी बड़े कदम उठाए गए। खुम्बाथांग, हनुयोगमा और निम्मू में महिला सशक्तिकरण केंद्र खोले गए। इसके अलावा, चुशुल का पश्मीना वीविंग सेंटर, शाचुकुल का ब्लॉक प्रिंटिंग सेंटर और मार्त्सेलांग का सैनिटरी नैपकिन निर्माण केंद्र महिलाओं को आत्मनिर्भर बना रहे हैं।
स्थापना दिवस पर सम्मान और संकल्प
स्थापना दिवस के अवसर पर लद्दाख महिला आइस हॉकी टीम को सम्मानित किया गया। इसके साथ ही 24 सेना कर्मियों को उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन के लिए पुरस्कृत किया गया।
सभी रैंकों ने सीमा की रक्षा का संकल्प दोहराया और लद्दाख के विकास के लिए अपनी निष्ठा को पुनः व्यक्त किया।
लद्दाख की ढाल और उम्मीद
26 वर्षों की यात्रा में फायर एंड फ्यूरी कॉर्प्स ने केवल हथियारों से नहीं, बल्कि विश्वास, विकास और सेवा से लद्दाख को मजबूती दी है।
कारगिल की चोटियों से लेकर सियाचिन की बर्फीली ज़मीन तक, आर्मी गुडविल स्कूलों से लेकर महिला सशक्तिकरण केंद्रों तक – यह कॉर्प्स भारतीय सेना की उस भावना का प्रतीक है जो कहती है: सेवा परमो धर्म।
आज 26वें स्थापना दिवस पर एक बार फिर यह संदेश दिया गया – फायर एंड फ्यूरी की ज्वाला न केवल युद्धभूमि पर जलती है, बल्कि हर उस पहल में भी रोशनी देती है जो लद्दाख के भविष्य को उज्ज्वल बनाती है।
