First Training Squadron of Indian Navy Arrives at Port Victoria, Seychelles to Strengthen Maritime Ties

Port Victoria, Seychelles / New Delhi, 02 September 2025. The First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy, comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, and Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, arrived at Port Victoria, Seychelles, on 01 September 2025 as part of its long-range training deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region (SW IOR).
The arrival of the squadron was marked with a ceremonial welcome by the Seychelles Defence Force (SDF) band, symbolizing the strong and historic maritime ties between India and Seychelles. The Indian Navy Guard and Band also paraded onboard the 1TS, reflecting mutual respect, solidarity, and the shared vision of maritime security in the region.
Strategic and Training Significance
The deployment of 1TS, which trains young naval cadets while enhancing India’s naval presence, underscores India’s maritime vision in the IOR. The visit is part of the broader initiative under ‘MAHASAGAR’, a framework aimed at ensuring maritime cooperation, safety, and security in the Indian Ocean Region.
Senior Officer 1TS, Capt Tijo K Joseph, is scheduled to meet with dignitaries of the Government of Seychelles, senior officers of the Seychelles Defence Force, and officials at the Indian High Commission. The agenda includes high-level discussions to strengthen bilateral relations, professional military exchanges, and collaborative training exercises.
Engagements & Outreach
During the port call, the Indian Navy and Seychelles Defence Force will engage in:
- Professional exchanges & cross-deck visits to share knowledge and operational expertise.
- Training interactions to enhance interoperability.
- Cultural exchanges, including yoga sessions, Naval Band performances, and friendly sports fixtures.
- Community outreach programs to strengthen people-to-people ties.
Strengthening India-Seychelles Partnership
This deployment marks the third port call of Indian Navy ships to Seychelles in 2025, reaffirming India’s commitment to robust bilateral maritime engagement. It further demonstrates India’s focus on the security, stability, and prosperity of the Indian Ocean Region, where Seychelles plays a strategic role as a trusted partner.
Through the dual objectives of training young cadets and building bridges of friendship, the First Training Squadron’s visit reflects India’s growing influence and commitment to its neighbors under the principles of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
भारतीय नौसेना का प्रथम प्रशिक्षण स्क्वाड्रन सेशेल्स के पोर्ट विक्टोरिया पहुँचा, समुद्री मित्रता को नई मजबूती
पोर्ट विक्टोरिया, सेशेल्स / नई दिल्ली, 02 सितम्बर 2025। भारतीय नौसेना का प्रथम प्रशिक्षण स्क्वाड्रन (1TS), जिसमें आईएनएस तीर, आईएनएस शार्दूल और तटरक्षक जहाज सारथी शामिल हैं, अपने दक्षिण पश्चिम हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र (SW IOR) में दीर्घ प्रशिक्षण परिनियोजन के तहत 01 सितम्बर 2025 को पोर्ट विक्टोरिया, सेशेल्स पहुँचा।
स्क्वाड्रन के आगमन पर सेशेल्स डिफेंस फोर्स (SDF) बैंड द्वारा औपचारिक स्वागत किया गया। इस अवसर पर भारतीय नौसेना के गार्ड और बैंड ने भी परेड कर दोनों देशों के बीच प्रगाढ़ समुद्री संबंधों और आपसी सम्मान का प्रदर्शन किया।
रणनीतिक एवं प्रशिक्षण महत्व
प्रथम प्रशिक्षण स्क्वाड्रन का यह दौरा न केवल युवा नौसैनिक कैडेटों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण प्रशिक्षण है बल्कि भारत की समुद्री उपस्थिति और सहयोग को भी रेखांकित करता है। यह दौरा ‘महासागर’ (MAHASAGAR) दृष्टि का हिस्सा है, जिसके अंतर्गत हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में सामूहिक सुरक्षा, सहयोग और स्थिरता सुनिश्चित करने पर बल दिया गया है।
वरिष्ठ अधिकारी 1TS, कैप्टन टिजो के जोसेफ, सेशेल्स सरकार के गणमान्य व्यक्तियों, सेशेल्स डिफेंस फोर्स के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों और भारतीय उच्चायोग के अधिकारियों से मुलाकात करेंगे। इन बैठकों का उद्देश्य द्विपक्षीय संबंधों को और मजबूत करना और पेशेवर सैन्य सहयोग को बढ़ावा देना है।
कार्यक्रम और सहभागिता
इस दौरान कई कार्यक्रम आयोजित होंगे, जिनमें शामिल हैं:
- पेशेवर आदान-प्रदान और क्रॉस-डेक विज़िट
- प्रशिक्षण अभ्यास और वार्तालाप
- सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम जैसे योग सत्र, नौसैनिक बैंड प्रस्तुतियाँ और मैत्रीपूर्ण खेल मुकाबले

यह वर्ष 2025 में भारतीय नौसेना का सेशेल्स का तीसरा बंदरगाह दौरा है। यह भारत और सेशेल्स के बीच मजबूत समुद्री साझेदारी का प्रतीक है और भारत की इस क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा, स्थिरता और समृद्धि के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है।
युवा कैडेटों के प्रशिक्षण और दोस्ती की पुलों के निर्माण की यह पहल ‘सागर – क्षेत्र में सभी के लिए सुरक्षा और विकास’ (SAGAR) के सिद्धांतों पर आधारित भारत की समुद्री नीति को और मजबूत करती है।
