From Army Commander’s Felicitation to COAS Commendation — BSF Intelligence G Branch DCG Mahesh Chand Jat Honoured for ‘Operation Sindoor’

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, has officially announced the award of the COAS Commendation to Deputy Commandant (DCG) Mahesh Chand Jat, head of the G Branch (Intelligence) of the Border Security Force (BSF), for his exceptional role in Operation Sindoor.

This high honour comes just days after DCG Jat was felicitated at the Bikaner Military Station by the Army Commander for his intelligence leadership and seamless coordination between the BSF, Indian Army, and national security agencies. The dual recognition within such a short span underscores the strategic value of his contribution to India’s western frontier defence.

From Corps-Level Recognition to the Nation’s Top Military Honour

Earlier this month, during a grand felicitation ceremony at Bikaner Military Station, senior Army leadership, including the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Command, lauded DCG Jat for his behind-the-scenes operational brilliance. That recognition, presented personally by the Army Commander, marked the first public acknowledgment of his pivotal role in Operation Sindoor.

Now, with the COAS commendation announcement by General Upendra Dwivedi, DCG Jat’s contribution has been officially inscribed at the highest level of the Indian Army’s honours list for Independence Day 2025.

COAS Commendation — Intelligence as a Force Multiplier

In his remarks, General Upendra Dwivedi emphasised that modern warfare is won not merely by weapons but by the accuracy, timeliness, and precision of intelligence. He stated that officers like DCG Jat are “India’s silent sentinels” — ensuring victory by delivering mission-critical information to frontline commanders exactly when it matters most.

During Operation Sindoor, Jat’s leadership ensured that intelligence from BSF surveillance grids, Army reconnaissance, and national technical assets was fused into a single operational picture. This unified intelligence allowed for pre-emptive action against infiltration attempts, interdiction of arms smuggling, and neutralisation of hostile plans before they could unfold.

A Professional’s Oath to Remain in the Shadows

Reacting to the COAS commendation, DCG Jat said the award was a recognition of his team’s tireless work:

“Our mission is not to be visible, but to ensure the nation remains secure. When the right intelligence reaches the right hands at the right time, our soldiers win and our people stay safe.”

With both the Army Commander’s ceremonial honour and the COAS commendation now to his name within weeks, DCG Jat’s journey from silent strategist to nationally recognised security asset stands as a testament to the indispensable role of intelligence in joint-force operations.

बीकानेर। भारतीय थल सेना प्रमुख (Chief of Army Staff – COAS) जनरल उपेन्द्र द्विवेदी, पीवीएसएम, एवीएसएम ने ऑपरेशन सिंदूर में असाधारण योगदान के लिए सीमा सुरक्षा बल (बीएसएफ) की जी ब्रांच (इंटेलिजेंस) के प्रमुख डिप्टी कमांडेंट (डीसीजी) महेश चंद जाट को सीओएएस प्रशंसा पत्र से सम्मानित करने की घोषणा की है।

यह उच्च सम्मान ऐसे समय पर आया है जब कुछ ही दिन पहले बीकानेर मिलिट्री स्टेशन में आर्मी कमांडर ने उन्हें उनके उत्कृष्ट खुफिया नेतृत्व और बीएसएफ, भारतीय थल सेना व राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा एजेंसियों के बीच बेहतरीन समन्वय के लिए सम्मानित किया था। इस तरह कुछ ही हफ्तों के अंतराल में मिली यह दोहरी मान्यता उनके योगदान की रणनीतिक अहमियत को और भी मजबूत करती है।

कोर-स्तरीय सम्मान से देश के शीर्ष सैन्य सम्मान तक

हाल ही में बीकानेर मिलिट्री स्टेशन में आयोजित एक भव्य सम्मान समारोह में साउथ वेस्टर्न कमांड के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ ने डीसीजी जाट के पृष्ठभूमि में रहकर किए गए रणनीतिक कार्यों और ऑपरेशन सिंदूर में निभाई गई निर्णायक भूमिका की सराहना की थी। वह सम्मान इस अभियान में उनकी भूमिका की पहली सार्वजनिक मान्यता थी।

अब, थल सेना प्रमुख जनरल उपेन्द्र द्विवेदी द्वारा घोषित सीओएएस प्रशंसा पत्र के साथ, स्वतंत्रता दिवस 2025 के सम्मान सूची में उनका नाम आधिकारिक रूप से दर्ज हो गया है।

थल सेना प्रमुख की सराहना — खुफिया जानकारी ही असली शक्ति

जनरल उपेन्द्र द्विवेदी ने कहा कि आधुनिक युद्ध केवल हथियारों से नहीं जीते जाते, बल्कि सटीक और समय पर मिली खुफिया जानकारी से ही जीत सुनिश्चित होती है। उन्होंने कहा कि डीसीजी जाट जैसे अधिकारी “भारत के मौन प्रहरी” हैं, जो सही समय पर सही हाथों में सही सूचना पहुंचाकर विजय सुनिश्चित करते हैं।

ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के दौरान डीसीजी जाट के नेतृत्व में बीएसएफ की निगरानी प्रणालियों, सेना की रीकॉन इकाइयों और राष्ट्रीय तकनीकी संसाधनों से मिली जानकारी को एकीकृत कर एक ही ऑपरेशनल चित्र में ढाला गया। इस संयुक्त खुफिया प्रणाली ने घुसपैठ की कोशिशों को पहले ही विफल कर दिया, हथियार तस्करी को रोका और दुश्मन की योजनाओं को समय रहते खत्म कर दिया।

मौन रणनीतिकार से राष्ट्रीय सम्मान तक

सीओएएस प्रशंसा पत्र पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए डीसीजी जाट ने कहा:

“हमारा मिशन दिखना नहीं, बल्कि देश को सुरक्षित रखना है। जब सही समय पर सही हाथों में सही खुफिया जानकारी पहुंचती है, तो हमारे सैनिक जीतते हैं और हमारे लोग सुरक्षित रहते हैं।”

कुछ ही दिनों में आर्मी कमांडर का सम्मान और अब थल सेनाध्यक्ष का प्रशंसा पत्र प्राप्त करना, डीसीजी जाट की यात्रा को मौन रणनीतिकार से राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मान्यता प्राप्त सुरक्षा स्तंभ में बदल देता है।
