IIT Delhi Hosts Thought-Provoking Environmental Awareness Programme on World Environment Day 2025
New Delhi, 04 June 2025 – In observance of World Environment Day, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi served as the vibrant stage for a powerful and engaging day-long awareness programme on 4th June 2025, organized under the theme “Empowering Delhi for a Greener Future.” This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and witnessed widespread participation from civil society, academia, civic leadership, and administrative officials.
The key highlight of the programme was a dramatic stage play performed by a passionate group of educators from the MCD, which captivated the audience through its emotional depth and clarity of message. Held at the prestigious lecture hall of IIT Delhi, the theatrical presentation emphasized responsible waste disposal, citizen participation in sustainable practices, and the deadly consequences of plastic pollution.
Through vivid storytelling and stirring performances, the team of teachers not only entertained but also sensitized the audience, which included senior officials of IIT Delhi, MCD dignitaries, RWA members, teachers, students, and environmental activists. The play delivered strong calls to action—urging citizens to segregate dry and wet waste into designated blue and green bins, to treat public spaces like personal property, and to plant more trees.
A notable feature of the skit was its portrayal of the interconnectedness between humans, flora, and fauna, stressing how plastic waste, chemicals, and pollutants are threatening ecological balance and the future of humanity. The message was clear: Environmental conservation is not optional—it is a necessity.
The list of dedicated teacher-performers who brought this poignant act to life includes Neetu Panchal, Roshni Dabas, Navneet Deshwal, Preeti Sharma, Meena Dhal, Naveen Kumar, Urmila Prajapati, Santosh Kumari, Rachna, Seema Sharma, Ritu, Poonam Maurya, and Shiv Kumar (from DEMS Department, MCD). Their emotionally resonant performance received thunderous applause, sparking both appreciation and introspection among the attendees.

As part of the programme, a special one-day workshop on waste management was also conducted. Experts and civic authorities engaged in constructive dialogues, discussing localized waste solutions, enforcement mechanisms, and behavioral change strategies to reduce the burden of solid waste on Delhi’s infrastructure.
In their remarks, the dignitaries called for urgent reforms in urban waste handling, plastic alternatives, and stricter implementation of segregation at source. Students and RWA representatives pledged support for clean neighborhood drives and community plantation campaigns.
This entire initiative served as a call to action—urging citizens, institutions, and administrators to treat environmental protection not just as a civic duty, but as a moral imperative. The programme concluded with the symbolic planting of saplings across the IIT Delhi campus, symbolizing new beginnings and shared responsibility for a greener future.
IIT दिल्ली में मनाया गया विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस, शिक्षकों ने नाटक के माध्यम से दी पर्यावरण संरक्षण की प्रेरणा
नई दिल्ली, 04 जून 2025 – विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस के उपलक्ष्य में IIT दिल्ली में एक दिवसीय विशेष कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया, जिसका विषय था “एंपावरिंग दिल्ली फॉर ए ग्रीनर फ्यूचर”। यह आयोजन दिल्ली नगर निगम (दि.न.नि.) द्वारा आयोजित किया गया जिसमें नगर निगम के शिक्षक, IIT दिल्ली के अधिकारी, स्थानीय निकाय सदस्य, RWA अध्यक्ष, छात्र और पर्यावरण कार्यकर्ता बड़ी संख्या में शामिल हुए।
कार्यक्रम की विशेषता रही नगर निगम के शिक्षकों द्वारा प्रस्तुत एक अत्यंत प्रभावशाली नाट्य प्रस्तुति, जो पर्यावरण प्रबंधन, स्वच्छता, और प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण जैसे गंभीर विषयों पर आधारित थी। IIT दिल्ली के लेक्चर हॉल में मंचित इस नाटक ने दर्शकों को भावनात्मक रूप से झकझोरते हुए यह संदेश दिया कि यदि हमने अब भी पर्यावरण के प्रति अपनी जिम्मेदारी नहीं समझी, तो हमारी आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए जीवन अत्यंत कठिन हो जाएगा।
शिक्षकों की टीम ने नाटक के माध्यम से नागरिकों से अपील की कि वे सूखे और गीले कचरे को अलग-अलग करें, नीले और हरे डस्टबिन का उपयोग करें, और अपने क्षेत्रों को अपने घर जैसा मानकर स्वच्छ रखें। साथ ही, अधिक से अधिक पौधारोपण करने और सिंगल यूज़ प्लास्टिक से बचने का आह्वान भी किया गया।
नाटक में प्लास्टिक के कारण हो रहे पर्यावरणीय, जलवायु और जैव विविधता पर दुष्प्रभावों को बेहद प्रभावशाली तरीके से दर्शाया गया। भूमि, जल और वायु में फैले विषैले रसायनों और प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण से न केवल जानवरों और पौधों को खतरा है, बल्कि मानव जीवन की निरंतरता भी संकट में है।

कार्यक्रम के दौरान एकदिवसीय कचरा प्रबंधन कार्यशाला भी आयोजित की गई, जिसमें विशेषज्ञों ने स्थानीय समाधान, जनचेतना, और नियमों के अनुपालन की चर्चा की। इस कार्यशाला का उद्देश्य शहरी कचरा समस्या को जड़ से हल करने के लिए व्यावहारिक सुझाव प्रस्तुत करना था।
कार्यक्रम का समापन IIT दिल्ली परिसर में पौधारोपण के साथ हुआ, जो एक हरित भविष्य के प्रति सामूहिक प्रतिबद्धता का प्रतीक बना।
