Indian Air Force Squash Championship Concludes with Stellar Performances at Air Force Station Delhi
Training Command Emerges Champion as IAF Promotes Fitness and Mental Resilience Through Sport.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) Squash Championship concluded today at Air Force Station Delhi, showcasing two days of high-intensity competition, sportsmanship, and the IAF’s continued emphasis on physical fitness and mental resilience.
Held on August 6–7, the championship was part of the IAF’s broader “Fit to Fight” initiative aimed at enhancing combat readiness through athletic excellence. The event witnessed spirited participation from teams representing various commands across the country.

Training Command clinched the overall team title, outperforming strong contenders from the South Western Air Command and Air Headquarters. This victory not only marks their sporting excellence but also reflects their role in leading the evolution of IAF training standards—transitioning from post-independence British frameworks to a more holistic and modern approach. Institutions such as the Air Force School of Physical Fitness and the Medical Training Centre play a pivotal role in this transformation.
In the individual category, Sergeant CS Rathore secured the first position, followed by Sergeant Sachin and Sergeant Vicky Gagat, who earned second and third place respectively. Rathore’s win is particularly notable, with reports suggesting his coach, Gajendra Singh Rathore, is a prominent name in squash—pointing toward a possible generational influence.

Beyond medals and trophies, the championship reaffirmed the IAF’s understanding of sports as a tool for enhancing operational efficiency. A study in the Journal of Sports Sciences confirmed that playing squash boosts cognitive function and stress management—skills critical for military personnel.
This event also comes as part of the ‘Year of Reforms’, where integration of structured physical training and mental agility through sports is being reinforced across the services. With the success of this championship, the IAF is expected to roll out more such events in the coming months to sustain its legacy of excellence, discipline, and readiness.
