Indian Air Force’s C-130J Executes Life-Saving Medical Evacuation of Thai National from Leh to Delhi
New Delhi | August 2025 — Demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian service beyond the call of duty, the Indian Air Force (IAF) executed a critical medical evacuation on short notice, airlifting a severely injured Thai national from Leh to Delhi aboard a C-130J Super Hercules aircraft.
The mission, launched in the backdrop of challenging weather conditions in the high-altitude Ladakh region, underscored the IAF’s dual role as both a shield of national security and a pillar of humanitarian assistance. According to official reports, the Thai national, whose identity has been kept confidential at the request of authorities, required urgent, life-saving medical treatment that could not be provided in Leh due to the limited advanced healthcare infrastructure in the mountainous terrain.
A Mission Against Time and Weather
The call for evacuation came as an urgent request from local authorities and the Thai Embassy, leading to rapid coordination between the Ministry of Defence, the IAF, and civil agencies. Within hours, the IAF activated its aircrew, engineers, and medical support teams to launch the operation.
The C-130J Super Hercules, stationed at Leh, was tasked for the mission. Known for its ability to operate from short and semi-prepared runways, the aircraft is often deployed in special operations and humanitarian relief missions. Despite unpredictable weather, reduced visibility, and high-altitude operational challenges, the crew flew the patient safely to Delhi in record time, where advanced medical treatment awaited.

The C-130J aircraft of the IAF has been pivotal in operations ranging from disaster relief and troop transportation to high-altitude airlift missions in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. With its versatility, night-flying capability, and long-range endurance, it is often the first choice for time-sensitive humanitarian tasks.
In this mission, the aircraft’s pressurised cabin and medical configuration ensured that the critically injured patient remained stable during the journey, aided by onboard support from medical staff.

नई दिल्ली | अगस्त 2025 — भारतीय वायुसेना (IAF) ने एक बार फिर साबित किया कि उसका दायित्व सिर्फ युद्धक्षेत्र तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि मानवीय सेवा में भी उतना ही अग्रणी है। वायुसेना के सी-130जे सुपर हरक्यूलिस विमान ने कठिन मौसम परिस्थितियों का सामना करते हुए लेह से एक गंभीर रूप से घायल थाई नागरिक को दिल्ली तक सुरक्षित एयरलिफ्ट किया, जिससे उसकी जान बच सकी।
समय और मौसम से जंग
स्थानीय प्रशासन और थाई दूतावास की ओर से आया तत्काल अनुरोध भारतीय वायुसेना के लिए एक चुनौतीपूर्ण मिशन का आधार बना। लेह जैसे दुर्गम और ऊंचाई वाले क्षेत्र में चिकित्सकीय सुविधाएं सीमित थीं और घायल की हालत लगातार बिगड़ रही थी।
