INDIAN NAVY’S FIRST TRAINING SQUADRON REACHES CHANGI NAVAL BASE, SINGAPORE, STRENGTHENING ASEAN–INDIA MARITIME TIES AND IONS LEADERSHIP
Strategic Maritime Engagement in Southeast Asia
The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), consisting of frontline platforms INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and the Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, arrived at Singapore’s Changi Naval Base on 15 January 2026 as part of a long-range training deployment to the South East Indian Ocean Region. During the port visit, personnel from the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) are participating in a series of professional interactions designed to enhance operational understanding and capability development. These include structured training exchanges, knowledge-sharing sessions, and discussions on maritime doctrines, safety protocols, and operational best practices. Joint yoga sessions and sports fixtures between trainees of both navies further strengthen camaraderie and people-to-people ties, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation beyond formal engagements. On arrival at Changi Naval Base, Dr. Shilpak Ambule, the High Commissioner of India to Singapore, interacted with the trainees of the First Training Squadron, encouraging them and highlighting the importance of maritime diplomacy in today’s strategic environment. Senior Officer 1TS and the Commanding Officers of the visiting ships also paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Maritime Training and Doctrine Command (MTDC), where discussions focused on training philosophies, naval education systems, and future cooperation frameworks. A team of International Liaison Officers from Singapore’s Information Fusion Centre also visited the Indian ships, facilitating professional exchanges on maritime domain awareness, information sharing, and regional security coordination.
Community Engagement and Naval Heritage Exchange
The second day of the visit witnessed a series of community-oriented and professional activities aimed at deepening bilateral ties. Indian Navy personnel visited the Information Fusion Centre and the RSN Museum to gain insights into Singapore’s maritime security architecture and naval heritage. Friendly sports fixtures between Indian and Singaporean sailors further strengthened mutual respect and teamwork. चांगी नेवल बेस पहुँचने पर सिंगापुर में भारत के उच्चायुक्त डॉ. शिलपक अंबुले ने प्रथम प्रशिक्षण स्क्वाड्रन के प्रशिक्षुओं से मुलाकात की और उन्हें प्रेरित किया। उन्होंने समुद्री कूटनीति के महत्व पर जोर देते हुए क्षेत्रीय सहयोग की आवश्यकता को रेखांकित किया। इसके साथ ही, 1TS के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी और जहाजों के कमांडिंग ऑफिसर्स ने मैरीटाइम ट्रेनिंग एंड डॉक्ट्रिन कमांड (MTDC) के कमांडर से औपचारिक मुलाकात की, जिसमें प्रशिक्षण प्रणालियों, नौसैनिक सिद्धांतों और भविष्य के सहयोग पर चर्चा हुई। सिंगापुर के इन्फॉर्मेशन फ्यूज़न सेंटर से आए अंतरराष्ट्रीय संपर्क अधिकारियों ने भी भारतीय जहाजों का दौरा किया और समुद्री डोमेन जागरूकता, सूचना साझा करने और क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा पर अनुभव साझा किए।

यात्रा के दूसरे दिन भारतीय नौसेना के कर्मियों ने कई सामुदायिक और पेशेवर गतिविधियों में भाग लिया। उन्होंने इन्फॉर्मेशन फ्यूज़न सेंटर और RSN म्यूज़ियम का दौरा कर सिंगापुर की समुद्री सुरक्षा संरचना और नौसैनिक इतिहास को समझा। दोनों नौसेनाओं के बीच मैत्रीपूर्ण खेल मुकाबले भी आयोजित हुए, जिससे आपसी विश्वास और सहयोग को बढ़ावा मिला। इसके साथ ही, भारतीय नौसेना के जवानों ने श्री नारायण वृद्धाश्रम और नर्सिंग होम में जाकर सामाजिक सेवा गतिविधियों में भाग लिया, जो मानवीय मूल्यों और सामाजिक जिम्मेदारी के प्रति नौसेना की प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है।
एक्ट ईस्ट नीति के तहत भारत की समुद्री भूमिका
यह दौरा भारत की “एक्ट ईस्ट नीति” के अनुरूप है, जिसके तहत दक्षिण-पूर्व एशियाई देशों के साथ रणनीतिक, आर्थिक और सुरक्षा सहयोग को मजबूत किया जा रहा है। हिंद-प्रशांत क्षेत्र में समुद्री मार्गों की सुरक्षा, व्यापारिक रास्तों की स्थिरता और क्षेत्रीय शांति भारत की प्राथमिकताओं में शामिल हैं। सिंगापुर में प्रथम प्रशिक्षण स्क्वाड्रन की तैनाती यह दिखाती है कि भारत एक जिम्मेदार समुद्री भागीदार के रूप में क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा में सक्रिय भूमिका निभा रहा है।

यह यात्रा भारतीय महासागर नौसैनिक संगोष्ठी (IONS) में भारत की नेतृत्व भूमिका को भी मजबूत करती है। IONS का उद्देश्य क्षेत्रीय नौसेनाओं के बीच सहयोग, सूचना साझा करना और क्षमता निर्माण को बढ़ावा देना है। इसके साथ ही, यह दौरा “महासागर” (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) विज़न के अनुरूप है, जिसका लक्ष्य समावेशी समुद्री विकास, साझा सुरक्षा और क्षेत्रीय समृद्धि है। भारत इन पहलों के माध्यम से हिंद-प्रशांत क्षेत्र में स्थिरता और सहयोग का प्रमुख स्तंभ बनकर उभर रहा है।
