Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni Assumes Charge as Director General of EME; Stresses on Innovation and Operational Preparedness
New Delhi, October 1, 2025: In a solemn and symbolic ceremony, Lieutenant General Rajiv Kumar Sahni today assumed the prestigious appointment of Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DG EME) and also took over as the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME. The event, held with military decorum and tradition, was marked by a wreath-laying at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, where the newly appointed DG paid homage to the fallen heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The moment was both ceremonial and deeply emotional, underscoring the ethos of the Indian Army where continuity of leadership is tied inseparably to respect for those who laid down their lives for the nation.

He highlighted that Atmanirbharta in Defence is not merely a slogan but an imperative, and the Corps of EME must be at the forefront of developing indigenous solutions. By fostering closer partnerships with India’s defence industry, research organisations, and start-ups, EME could transform into a centre of excellence for defence technology adaptation.
“The Corps of EME is entrusted with the mission of ensuring operational availability of the Army’s vast equipment profile. But beyond that, it must lead the charge in integrating new technologies, driving innovation and delivering results that directly enhance the combat potential of the Indian Army,” Lt Gen Sahni stated in his remarks to the officers and men under his command.
Honouring the Bravehearts at the National War Memorial
The solemn wreath-laying at the National War Memorial served as a reminder of the continuity of sacrifice and duty that defines the Indian Army. Lt Gen Sahni bowed in respect before the eternal flame at Amar Chakra, acknowledging that every innovation, every repair, and every technological advancement by EME is ultimately aimed at empowering soldiers on the frontlines, who embody courage and sacrifice.
The ceremony reaffirmed the Corps’ motto—“Kadam Mila Kar Chal” (March in Step)—signifying unity of purpose, teamwork, and resilience.
Challenges and Opportunities Ahead
As he takes over at a critical juncture, Lt Gen Sahni faces the dual challenge of maintaining the highest operational readiness while simultaneously leading the Corps into new technological domains. With drones, unmanned systems, electronic warfare, and AI-driven battlefield technologies shaping the future, the Corps of EME must adapt at unprecedented speed.
The emphasis on indigenous innovation underlines India’s ambition to reduce reliance on foreign systems. Under Lt Gen Sahni’s leadership, the EME is expected to boost in-house R&D, collaborate with DRDO and private sector partners, and encourage young officers to contribute disruptive ideas that can be converted into battlefield-ready solutions.

The Corps of EME, established in 1943, has a proud history of service in every major conflict—from the Second World War to Kargil, and most recently in Operation Sindoor and joint operations along India’s northern and western frontiers. Over the decades, it has evolved from a repair and recovery unit into a technologically sophisticated arm that is as much about innovation as it is about maintenance.
Lt Gen Sahni’s appointment marks the continuation of this legacy, with an added push towards next-generation warfare readiness. His leadership, grounded in experience and driven by vision, is expected to energise the Corps for the challenges ahead.

EME Corps अब ड्रोन, अनमैंड सिस्टम, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक युद्ध और AI-चालित तकनीकों के क्षेत्र में तेजी से कदम बढ़ा रहा है। लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल साहनी के नेतृत्व में Corps इन चुनौतियों को अवसर में बदलते हुए नई तकनीक और indigenous समाधानों को युद्धक स्तर पर लागू करेगा।

1943 में स्थापित Corps of EME ने हर प्रमुख संघर्ष—द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध, कारगिल युद्ध, ऑपरेशन सिंदूर और अन्य संयुक्त अभियानों—में सेवा दी है। यह Corps अब मरम्मत और रखरखाव से बढ़कर तकनीकी नवाचार और युद्धक क्षमता सुनिश्चित करने वाला केंद्र बन गया है।
