Udhampur, January 17, 2025 – In a historic moment for the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the cadets of the newly established 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC took to the skies for the first time on January 17, 2025. This inaugural flight, held at Udhampur, signifies a major leap in the NCC’s efforts to offer comprehensive training and foster a spirit of adventure among its cadets. The event was orchestrated under the auspices of the NCC Directorate Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh, setting a precedent in the region’s aviation training.

The 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC, led by its inaugural Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Nitin Yadav, stands as the only Air NCC squadron in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Its establishment is a testament to the NCC’s commitment to broadening its horizons and providing cadets with practical aviation experience. Equipped with Microlight aircraft, the squadron is dedicated to offering its cadets hands-on flying training, preparing them for potential careers in the armed forces and civilian aviation sectors.

The excitement was palpable among the cadets, many of whom were experiencing flight for the first time. Cadet Siya Kotwal from SKUAST Jammu, the first to take flight, shared her exhilaration: “Flying was an experience I will never forget. It’s a dream come true and an opportunity I never imagined I would get. This flight has inspired me to push myself further and pursue my passion for aviation.” Cadet Aviral from Army Public School, Udhampur, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “This flying experience has motivated me to push myself in my dream of joining the Armed Forces. I will never forget this unique experience.” Cadets Akshat Gupta from SKUAST Jammu and Bhumika Sharma from SMVDU Katra also expressed their excitement and pride in participating in this historic event.

Wing Commander Nitin Yadav, speaking at the event, highlighted the significance of the occasion: “This first flight signifies not just a technical achievement, but a new chapter in the NCC’s ongoing mission to inspire and challenge the youth of our nation in chasing their dreams. We are proud to provide opportunities for cadets to explore new horizons and enhance their skills in a multi-dimensional domain.”

The successful launch of this flying program is expected to open doors to more such opportunities, further strengthening the NCC’s role in nurturing a sense of adventure, discipline, and leadership among the youth. The NCC plans to expand its aviation and adventure training programs, offering cadets more comprehensive experiences that build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.

The 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC, as part of the NCC Group Headquarters Jammu, is poised to significantly enhance the NCC’s aviation training capabilities in the region. This initiative will expose young leaders to new horizons, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
