The virtual stage was set aglow with excitement as RNTalks, the renowned online platform for motivational talks and discussions, hosted the prestigious Swami Vivekananda Karmaveera Award 2023. The event, held on March 12, 2023, was a grand celebration of individuals who have made exceptional contributions to society, inspired by the teachings and principles of Swami Vivekananda, the renowned spiritual leader and social reformer.
The online award ceremony was attended by a global audience, including esteemed dignitaries, renowned personalities, and thousands of viewers from across the globe. The event was streamed live on the RNTalks website and social media platforms, allowing people from all walks of life to witness the inspiring stories of the awardees.
The ceremony commenced with an invocation to Lord Ganesha by Ajunie Kaur, a student of Alwar Public School, followed by an opening address by Mrs. Ranjeeta Nath Ghai, the founder of RNTalks. She highlighted the significance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in today’s world and the importance of recognizing individuals who embody his principles through their actions and achievements.
She also highlighted the differences between a Karamayogi, Karmaveera and a Karmabhogi. She emphasized that Karmaveeras are the warriors who take up the responsibility to serve the society and bring about positive change. Karamayogis are those who take up the initiative to bring about change in their individual capabilities and potentials without expecting a reward.
Karmabhogis are those who benefit from exploiting the resources of others for personal gain.
The highlight of the evening was the felicitation of the awardees, who were selected after a meticulous evaluation process by the esteemed panel of judges. The awardees were recognized across different categories, including social service, education, entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation, among others.
Mr Rajinder Singh (Chairman of Mother India Care) was the Chief Guest at the event. This earned her the Swami Vivekananda Karmaveera Award 2023 and RNTalks Founder’s Choice award for innovation and creativity.
The highest award of Karamayogi was bestowed on Late Er. Jaswant Singh Gill. He was a senior officer in Coal India who put his life in the gravest danger to rescue 65 miners when an underground coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal, was flooded, using the Steel Capsule technique, thus creating history. An Asian Age report stated that four rescue teams were formed. A team proposed digging a parallel tunnel and connecting it with the mine. It was also unsuccessful for another team to reach the mine through the route where water was seeping in. The team led by Gill created a steel capsule that can carry one person at a time. The capsule was to be inserted through the borewell hole. Due to the borehole being connected at the exact location where the trapped miners had gathered, his study was flawless. He was awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak by then-president Ramaswamy Venkataraman two years later.
He received many accolades after that, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from Coal India. Capsule Gill is a biopic on Jaswant Singh Gill starring Indian-Canadian actor Akshay Kumar, which will be released in theatres in November 2023.
