10-Day Awareness Campaign on Women Empowerment Launched Across Bikaner District
Bikaner
The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has launched a 10-day district-wide awareness drive under the ongoing SANKALP – Hub for Empowerment of Women initiative, from September 2 to September 12, 2025. The campaign aims to strengthen grassroots-level participation and sensitization on critical issues concerning women and adolescent girls. Conducted in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women and the Pannadhay Suraksha Evam Samman Kendra, the programme seeks to expand outreach across district, block, and panchayat levels, combining awareness with capacity-building measures.
The campaign intends not only to highlight women-centric schemes and welfare projects but also to create a sustainable platform for dialogue, legal awareness, skills training, and social empowerment. With a strong focus on holistic development, the series of events will bring together multiple stakeholders—government departments, NGOs, self-help groups, educators, and community leaders—to bridge gaps in awareness and implementation.
Themes and Focus Areas
Speaking about the planned activities, Dr. Anuradha Saxena, Deputy Director, Women Empowerment, outlined the thematic areas on which the campaign will revolve. These include:
- Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Awareness – promoting education and equal opportunities for the girl child.
- Gender Sensitization – challenging stereotypes and promoting gender equality.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health – ensuring access to information and health services for women and adolescent girls.
- Workplace Safety for Women – spreading awareness about laws and preventive measures against harassment at work.
- Legal Awareness – informing women of their rights and the legal remedies available to them.
- Skill Development – enhancing economic independence through vocational training and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Health and Nutrition Awareness – tackling malnutrition and improving maternal and child health.
- POCSO Act Awareness – protecting children from sexual offences through sensitization and legal recourse.
- Child Rights and Welfare – strengthening child protection mechanisms.
- Science Exhibition – showcasing innovations and ideas that inspire young girls to engage with STEM fields.
Dr. Saxena emphasized that these focus areas would ensure a multi-dimensional approach to empowerment, merging education, health, law, and livelihood opportunities for maximum impact.
Venues and Participation
According to officials, the 10-day programmes will be organized in colleges, schools, hospitals, and private institutions across Bikaner district. Special emphasis will be laid on ensuring the active participation of women supervisors, officials from line departments, and voluntary organizations.
The campaign has been designed to encourage inclusive participation, particularly of rural women and adolescent girls, so that awareness is not confined to urban spaces. By involving local governance structures at district, block, and panchayat levels, the Ministry aims to create sustainable mechanisms of dialogue and outreach.
Key Highlights of Activities
On September 2, 2025, the campaign was formally launched at the Government Women’s College Hostel, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Bikaner, where an orientation programme on women-centric schemes and policies was conducted.
During the session, Centre Manager Kavita Hurkat addressed students and introduced them to the wide spectrum of welfare initiatives under Mission Shakti, such as:
- Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao
- Lado Protsahan Yojana
- Mukhyamantri Nari Shakti Kaushal Samvardhan Yojana (including RS-CIT, RS-CFA, RS-CSIP training modules)
- State-level Women Helpline 181
- Kalibai Bheel Udaan Yojana
- Shiksha Setu Yojana
Hurkat stressed that these schemes were not just financial incentives or educational support systems but a holistic safety net ensuring women’s security, mobility, and dignity.
On September 3, 2025, another awareness session was organized at the Shakti Maitrik Kendra, where Kavita Hurkat and Manisha Sharma jointly addressed women participants. The session focused on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and also spread crucial information about the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, aimed at preventing gender-biased sex selection.
The programme received positive participation from local communities, highlighting growing curiosity and willingness among women to engage in discussions about health, law, and livelihood.
Broader Goals of the Campaign
The 10-day drive is not only an information-sharing exercise but also a step toward capacity building, ensuring women are better equipped to claim their rights and take leadership roles in their communities.
Officials from the Women Empowerment Department have reiterated that the primary goal of SANKALP is to provide women with skill development opportunities, awareness about safety and protection, and access to supportive institutional mechanisms. By doing so, the campaign seeks to pave the way for women’s comprehensive social, economic, and political development.
The initiative comes at a critical juncture when both the central and state governments are actively integrating women’s empowerment into governance priorities. From Mission Shakti to Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the emphasis is on mainstreaming women as equal partners in India’s growth story.
Community and Institutional Synergy
A distinctive feature of this 10-day awareness drive is its multi-sectoral approach. Schools and colleges are being targeted to empower adolescent girls early in their educational journeys. Hospitals and health centers are being utilized to integrate awareness around reproductive and maternal health. Private institutions are also joining in, expanding the campaign’s public-private partnership dimension.
Further, self-help groups, NGOs, and volunteers are expected to contribute to on-ground mobilization, ensuring that outreach is personalized and localized. Women supervisors and coordinators will act as grassroots ambassadors, helping disseminate information in regional dialects and cultural contexts.
The Larger Vision
In the words of Dr. Saxena, the campaign seeks to create a chain of empowerment—where each participant not only learns but also carries forward the message to others in their community.
By combining awareness with action, the campaign is expected to leave a long-term impact in Bikaner district, setting a replicable model for other regions of Rajasthan and across the country.
The 10-day awareness campaign thus represents more than an event; it is a movement to bridge gaps in knowledge, promote inclusivity, and encourage women to step forward as leaders, innovators, and equal stakeholders in society.
