The rising sun cast a golden hue over Jaipur’s Amar Jawan Jyoti, as if nature itself paused to honour the protectors of India’s freedom. The 79th Infantry Day—Shaurya Diwas—unfolded in an atmosphere overflowing with reverence, pride, and recollections of heroic sacrifice that shaped the destiny of the nation. This annual homage paid to India’s infantry is not just a ceremonial ritual. It is an emotional reminder of the unmatched courage and resilience of those who walk into danger long before the rest of the nation wakes.
The eternal flame flickered steadily, reflecting in the eyes of soldiers gathered in immaculate uniform, each of them a living symbol of India’s resolve to defend every inch of its land. Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander of Sapta Shakti Command, laid the ceremonial wreath with quiet dignity, saluting not merely the fallen, but the legacy they entrusted to today’s guardians.
Across ranks, officers and soldiers followed, their boots striking the ground in a unified rhythm that seemed to echo through time. It was a moment where history and the present intertwined seamlessly. Where the silence spoke louder than any speech could.

Infantry Day marks the urgent deployment of the First Battalion of The Sikh Regiment to Srinagar on 27 October 1947. In those tense hours, Pakistan-backed tribal militias surged toward Kashmir, raising a direct threat to the fragile sovereignty of a newly independent India. There was no time to hesitate. The infantry moved first. They landed in Srinagar, rapidly secured the airfield, and advanced into hostile territory to halt the invasion. Their immediate response prevented a catastrophe and assured that the tricolour continued to fly over the Valley.
Their rifles, their grit, their blood held back the darkness.
That mission became the bedrock on which India’s defence identity was constructed. The infantry emerged as the shield of the nation, the first responders to every crisis, and the embodiment of courage under fire.
Their story continues in the icy winds of Ladakh, the thick forests of the Northeast, the battlefield scars of Longewala, the relentless vigilance on the Line of Control, and the narrow lanes of counter-terror operations.
Every new soldier inherits a legacy written with undying loyalty.

Home to Sapta Shakti Command, it oversees the vital Western Front, a region that has witnessed some of the most intense battles in India’s military history. Mechanisation and integrated battle groups improve mobility and firepower across diverse terrains. Artificial intelligence and cyber warfare may be redefining the battlefield, yet victory still demands a soldier’s decisive footstep on the ground being defended.
The Infantryman is not fading into technological shadows. He leads the charge into the future.

Infantry Day brings the nation face-to-face with sacrifice. Mothers who sent their sons to the border with pride. Wives who continue living with love that has no physical hand to hold. Children who learn heroism through memories instead of bedtime stories. These families are the unseen strength that stands behind every medal pinned to a soldier’s chest.
As the Last Post sounded and the bugle notes lingered in the cool morning breeze, one could feel a thousand salutes rising from graves, hillsides, and border outposts.
Names carved on memorial stones may be still, yet their bravery marches forever.

जयपुर का आसमान सोमवार की सुबह एक अलग ही गरिमा का साक्षी बना, जब अमर जवान ज्योति की पवित्र लौ में देश की जांबाज इन्फैंट्री के वीरों के शहादत के उजाले को सम्मान दिया गया। 79वां इन्फैंट्री डे, जिसे पूरे भारतीय सेना में शौर्य दिवस के रूप में जाना जाता है, आज पूर्ण सैन्य सम्मान और भावनात्मक गरिमा के साथ मनाया गया। अमर जवान ज्योति पर अग्रिम पंक्ति के उन बेटों को नमन किया गया, जिन्होंने देश की रक्षा के लिए अपने जीवन को समर्पित कर दिया, ताकि तिरंगा हर सीमा पर गर्व से लहराता रहे।
सप्त शक्ति कमान के आर्मी कमांडर लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मनजिंदर सिंह ने वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए सैनिकों के स्मारक पर पुष्पचक्र अर्पित कर इस समारोह की शुरुआत की। युद्धक संचालन और सीमा सुरक्षा में तैनात सैनिकों और अधिकारियों ने एक स्वर में इस भावना को दोहराया कि राष्ट्र की रक्षा का संकल्प किसी कीमत पर कम नहीं हो सकता। उन क्षणों में समय मानो ठहर गया था। शहीदों के स्मरण में उठे प्रत्येक कदम के साथ ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था कि शौर्य, अनुशासन और कर्तव्यनिष्ठा की पवित्र ध्वनि हवा में घुल चुकी हो। सैनिकों की सलामी से गूंजता वह स्थल भारत के हर परिवार को याद दिला रहा था कि सीमाओं पर तैनात एक सैनिक सिर्फ एक इंसान नहीं बल्कि राष्ट्र का सबसे मजबूत कवच होता है।
यह दिवस 27 अक्टूबर 1947 की उस ऐतिहासिक सुबह की याद दिलाता है, जब भारत की आजादी के मात्र दो महीने बाद, जम्मू-कश्मीर पर खतरे की काली छाया मंडरा रही थी। पाकिस्तान समर्थित कबायलियों ने कश्मीर की सीमा को रौंदते हुए श्रीनगर की ओर बढ़ना शुरू कर दिया था। राष्ट्र की सांसें थम चुकी थीं और तभी भारतीय सेना की इन्फैंट्री ने उस खतरे के सामने खुद को पहली ढाल के रूप में पेश किया। सिख रेजिमेंट की प्रथम बटालियन को तत्काल श्रीनगर एयरपोर्ट पर एयरलैंड कराया गया और उनके पहचाने जाने वाले दृढ़ कदमों ने दुश्मन के मंसूबों को वहीं रोक दिया। इतिहास में दर्ज इस निर्णायक पल ने न सिर्फ जम्मू-कश्मीर को भारत का मुकुट बनाए रखा, बल्कि भारतीय इन्फैंट्री को सदा के लिए “क्वीन ऑफ द बैटलफील्ड” का दर्जा दे दिया।
आज का इन्फैंट्री डे इसी अमर कहानी का विस्तार है। इन्फैंट्री के ये जांबाज आज भी सियाचिन के बर्फीले तूफानों में, अरुणाचल की पहाड़ियों में, राजस्थान के तपते रेगिस्तान में, जम्मू-कश्मीर के संवेदनशील इलाकों में और उत्तर-पूर्व के घने जंगलों में डटे हुए हैं। जहां हथियारों पर बर्फ जम जाती है, वहां इनके संकल्प की गर्मी बरकरार रहती है। जहां सांसें रुकने लगती हैं, वहां इनके जज्बे की धड़कनें तेज हो जाती हैं। आतंकवाद का अंधेरा हो या सीमा पार से घुसपैठ की खतरनाक कोशिशें, हर मोर्चे पर इन्फैंट्री सबसे पहले लड़ती है और अंत तक खड़ी रहती है।
जयपुर में आयोजित इस समारोह का महत्व इसलिए भी अधिक है क्योंकि यहीं से सप्त शक्ति कमान भारत की पश्चिमी सीमाओं की सुरक्षा का जिम्मा संभालती है। थाना, पोस्ट, अग्रिम चौकियां, सुबह-शाम की पेट्रोलिंग, रेतीले तूफानों के बीच सजग आंखें और कंधों पर तिरंगे की जिम्मेदारी। यहां तैनात हर सैनिक की सुबह शौर्य से शुरू होती है और रात राष्ट्रभक्ति के संकल्प के साथ समाप्त। यह वही सैनिक हैं जो दिन-रात यह सुनिश्चित करते हैं कि किसी भी दिशा से आने वाला खतरा सीमा पार की रेत पर ही थम जाए।
इन्फैंट्री सिर्फ एक लड़ाकू शक्ति नहीं बल्कि भारतीय सैनिकता का हृदय है। एक इन्फैंट्रीमैन की राइफल सिर्फ हथियार नहीं, बल्कि राष्ट्र की सांसों की सुरक्षा होती है। सेना में चाहे जितनी आधुनिक तकनीक आ जाए, युद्धभूमि पर अंतिम निर्णायक कदम हमेशा इन्फैंट्री सैनिक का ही होता है। वह दुश्मन की आंखों में आंखें डालकर जीत का रास्ता बनाता है। भारत की जैसों अनगिनत जीतों का मूल सूत्र यही है कि जब परिस्थितियाँ कठिन होती हैं, तब इन्फैंट्री और अधिक मजबूत होती है।
आज का भारत तकनीक के युग में है। दुश्मन की चालें बदल रही हैं, युद्ध का स्वरूप बदल रहा है, लेकिन इन्फैंट्री के साहस और समर्पण में कभी बदलाव नहीं आता। उनके लिए मैदान-ए-जंग सिर्फ एक जगह नहीं, बल्कि भारत माता का वो आंचल है जिसे बचाना उनके लिए जीवन का एकमात्र उद्देश्य है। उनकी ट्रेनिंग उनका अस्त्र है, उनका संकल्प उनका कवच है और उनका साहस उनका परम शस्त्र है। पथरीली पहाड़ियों पर बिछी बर्फ की चादर हो या मरुस्थल की तपती रेत, इनके कदम कभी पीछे नहीं हटते।
इनके पीछे खड़ी होती हैं अनेक परिवारों की मजबूती। वो मां, जो अपने लाल को राष्ट्र की गोद में सौंप देती है। वो पिता, जो अपने बेटे के कंधों पर वर्दी देखकर खुद सीना चौड़ा कर लेते हैं। वो हवाओं में बसी आवाजें, जिनमें शहीदों के बच्चों के सपने तैरते रहते हैं। इन्फैंट्री डे सिर्फ सैनिकों का नहीं, देश के उन लाखों परिवारों का भी पर्व है जो अपने घर के हीरो को कभी वापस घर लौटते नहीं देखते पर फिर भी दूसरे बेटे को फौज में भेजने में गर्व महसूस करते हैं।
अमर जवान ज्योति पर सलामी के उस क्षण ने याद दिलाया कि शहादत कभी इतिहास की किताबों में बंद नहीं होती। वह जिंदा रहती है, हर उस सिपाही की आंखों में, जो सुबह का सूरज देखने से पहले ही सीमा पर मोर्चा सम्भाल लेता है। युद्धभूमि की धूल में सिमटे नाम, शहीद स्मारकों पर उकेरी पहचान, वे सब जानते हैं कि उनके सपनों ने इस देश को नींद में चैन दिया है।
जैसे-जैसे सूर्य ऊपर चढ़ता गया, समारोह अपने औपचारिक अंत तक पहुंचा, परन्तु शौर्य की कथा वहीं खत्म नहीं हुई। सैनिक वापस अपनी पोस्टों, बटालियनों, प्रशिक्षण क्षेत्रों और सीमा चौकियों पर लौट गए। वही अनुशासन, वही तत्परता और वही समर्पण। देश की रक्षा में कहीं भी ढिलाई नहीं क्योंकि राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा का वचन किसी एक दिन का नहीं बल्कि हर पल का होता है।
आज 79 वर्ष बाद भी इन्फैंट्री की कहानी उतनी ही नई है जितनी 1947 में थी। यह कहानी न तो पुरानी होती है और न ही थकती है। यह निरंतर लिखी जा रही है, हर उस कदम से जो भारत की रक्षा के लिए आगे बढ़ता है। हर उस हथेली से जो तिरंगे को सलाम करती है। हर उस शहीद से जो बिना शब्द कहे पूरे देश का भविष्य सुरक्षित कर जाता है।
भारत सुरक्षित है क्योंकि इसकी इन्फैंट्री जागती है।
भारत गर्वित है क्योंकि इसकी इन्फैंट्री कभी झुकती नहीं।
भारत अमर है क्योंकि इसकी इन्फैंट्री का जज्बा अमर है।
