ARMY INTELLIGENCE TRIGGERS MAJOR ANTI-NARCOTICS CRACKDOWN IN BIKANER AHEAD OF AUGUST 15: OPIUM PEDDLER ARRESTED NEAR STRATEGIC MILITARY ZONE

Bikaner, August 3 – In a high-stakes joint operation just days before India’s 78th Independence Day, Army Intelligence and Bikaner Police uncovered a dangerous drug nexus operating perilously close to vital military and air force establishments. A narcotics trafficker was arrested with 452 grams of opium, triggering an investigation that now threatens to unravel a far-reaching criminal network exploiting Bikaner’s highway peripheries and military buffer zones.

The man at the center of this operation has been identified as Sunil Upadhyay, 22, son of Satyanarayan Upadhyay, resident of Meghasar village. Sunil had been running a local dhaba—Brahman Hotel—for nearly half a decade at Shobhasar Circle, a junction located mere kilometers from key Indian Army and Air Force bases.

The operation was initiated after Army Intelligence units, which had ramped up surveillance around all military installations across Bikaner district ahead of August 15, intercepted crucial inputs regarding the movement of suspected narcotics traffickers in the vicinity of the Shobhasar area. Recognizing the proximity to sensitive defence establishments, Army officials immediately relayed the intelligence to the District Special Team (DST) and Bichhwal Police, prompting urgent action.

THE BUST THAT SHOOK THE CITY

Around midnight on Saturday, August 2, a joint police team led by ASI Ramkaran Singh of DST and SI Kamaljeet Kaur of Bichhwal Police swooped in on the dhaba. Sunil was apprehended on-site and caught in possession of a significant 452-gram cache of opium, tightly packed and ready for distribution.

Police officials confirmed that the seized consignment was of commercial quantity, and is valued at several lakhs in the black market. The accused is believed to be part of a well-organised trafficking network that uses roadside eateries, dairy booths, and spa centers as safe fronts to peddle narcotics.

Initial interrogation has revealed disturbing insights into how deep the tentacles of the narcotics trade have spread in Bikaner. Authorities fear that vulnerable minors and unemployed youth are being roped in as carriers in exchange for quick money.

MILITARY ON HIGH ALERT AHEAD OF INDEPENDENCE DAY

Sources in Army Intelligence confirm that the surveillance operations have been intensified under a pre-Independence Day security protocol. All civilian activities around cantonments and air bases have been put under digital and ground monitoring. Unusual movement, frequent visitors, and unregistered businesses near such zones are being flagged for deeper checks.

The bust at Shobhasar Circle is especially critical given its geo-strategic sensitivity. Located in a corridor that houses air force radars, logistics depots, and rapid deployment units, even the slightest breach is considered a national security risk.

This operation is not an isolated incident. Intelligence suggests that smuggling networks are attempting to exploit Rajasthan’s vast desert highways to push opiates from across the border—especially from Pakistan—into India, using sleeper cells and local contacts in Bikaner, Barmer, Hanumangarh, and Sriganganagar.

THE NARCOTICS-NATIONAL SECURITY NEXUS

The disturbing part of the story is the evolving hybrid threat, where narcotics are not just being used for profit, but possibly also to destabilize civil society and weaken military readiness. The Army’s increasing involvement in such civilian crackdowns reflects the blurred lines between law enforcement and national security operations in modern India.

With 15 August just days away, this major interception has triggered a wider security audit of all hotels, dhabas, spas, and roadside eateries in a 10–15 km radius of Bikaner’s defence installations. Police sources reveal more arrests may follow as interrogation leads uncover new links.

The apprehended individual, Sunil Upadhyay, is being questioned further to extract names of suppliers, financiers, and logistic handlers. Police may invoke charges under the NDPS Act, with additional sections related to national security violations if any military-sensitive data is found compromised.

This joint Army-Police action is a resounding warning to narcotics syndicates—Bikaner is no longer a soft zone. The message from the Indian security establishment is clear: attempts to infiltrate strategic zones with drugs or sleeper cells will be crushed with force and speed.

बीकानेर, 3 अगस्त – स्वतंत्रता दिवस से ठीक पहले बीकानेर में सेना की इंटेलिजेंस यूनिट और स्थानीय पुलिस की संयुक्त कार्रवाई में एक बड़ा नशा तस्करी रैकेट सामने आया है। इस कार्रवाई के दौरान बीकानेर के शोभासर सर्कल से 452 ग्राम अफीम के साथ एक युवक को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। यह इलाका न केवल व्यावसायिक रूप से व्यस्त है, बल्कि भारतीय सेना और वायुसेना के महत्वपूर्ण ठिकानों के बेहद करीब भी है।

गिरफ्तार युवक की पहचान सुनील उपाध्याय (22 वर्ष) पुत्र सत्यनारायण उपाध्याय निवासी मेघासर के रूप में हुई है। यह युवक पिछले 4–5 वर्षों से शोभासर चौराहे पर ब्राह्मण होटल नामक ढाबा चला रहा था, जो नशे के तस्करी का अड्डा बन चुका था।

सेना की सटीक सूचना, पुलिस की तेज कार्रवाई

सेना की इंटेलिजेंस टीम को 2 अगस्त की रात यह इनपुट मिला कि शोभासर क्षेत्र में कुछ संदिग्ध व्यक्ति अफीम की बड़ी खेप लेकर पहुंचने वाले हैं। यह सूचना तत्काल डीएसटी के एएसआई रामकरण सिंह और बीछवाल थाना प्रभारी एसआई कमलजीत कौर के साथ साझा की गई। दोनों टीमों ने मौके पर पहुंचकर घेराबंदी की और सुनील को मौके से गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

उसके पास से 452 ग्राम अफीम बरामद की गई जो वाणिज्यिक मात्रा में आती है और इसकी बाजार कीमत लाखों में आंकी जा रही है। प्रारंभिक पूछताछ में यह खुलासा हुआ है कि सुनील एक व्यापक नेटवर्क का हिस्सा है, जो बीकानेर, नागौर, हनुमानगढ़ जैसे जिलों के हाइवे किनारे ढाबों और स्पा सेंटरों के जरिए नशा फैला रहा है।

15 अगस्त से पहले पूरे जिले में अलर्ट

सेना की ओर से 15 अगस्त को लेकर जारी सुरक्षा दिशा-निर्देशों के तहत बीकानेर जिले के सभी सैन्य प्रतिष्ठानों के आसपास सघन निगरानी और खुफिया गतिविधियां तेज कर दी गई हैं। ढाबों, होटलों, चाय की दुकानों और स्पा सेंटर्स की गतिविधियों पर विशेष नजर रखी जा रही है।

शोभासर क्षेत्र की संवेदनशीलता को देखते हुए यह गिरफ्तारी राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा के नजरिए से बेहद अहम मानी जा रही है। यह क्षेत्र वायुसेना की रडार इकाइयों, सैन्य लॉजिस्टिक बेस और अन्य अहम इकाइयों के बेहद नजदीक है।

क्या मादक पदार्थों के जरिए हो रही है भारत में अस्थिरता की साजिश?

इस मामले ने एक बार फिर यह सवाल खड़ा कर दिया है कि क्या मादक पदार्थों का नेटवर्क केवल आर्थिक नहीं, बल्कि राष्ट्र-विरोधी गतिविधियों से भी जुड़ा हुआ है? सेना और पुलिस अब इस बात की तह में जा रही है कि कहीं इस नेटवर्क का संबंध सीमा पार से तो नहीं है, जहां से पंजाब और राजस्थान के रास्ते अफीम भारत में धकेली जा रही है।

फिलहाल आरोपी से सघन पूछताछ जारी है और जल्द ही उसके गिरोह के अन्य सदस्यों की गिरफ्तारी भी हो सकती है। एनडीपीएस एक्ट के तहत मुकदमा दर्ज कर लिया गया है और यदि कोई सैन्य जानकारी लीक होने का अंदेशा पाया गया, तो राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा अधिनियम की धाराएं भी लगाई जा सकती हैं।

इस कार्रवाई ने साफ संदेश दे दिया है कि बीकानेर अब तस्करों के लिए सुरक्षित ज़ोन नहीं रहा। सेना और पुलिस की संयुक्त रणनीति के तहत हर संदिग्ध गतिविधि का तत्काल जवाब दिया जाएगा।
