ASELSAN Unveils Enhanced KORKUT Air Defense System at EUROSATORY 2024
In a bold move showcasing Turkey’s advanced defense capabilities, ASELSAN is gearing up to debut the latest iteration of its KORKUT Air Defense Gun System at the prestigious EUROSATORY 2024 exhibition. Scheduled from June 17th to 21st, the event promises to be a platform for cutting-edge innovations in the defense sector.
The focal point of ASELSAN’s exhibit will undoubtedly be the KORKUT system, now presented in an upgraded configuration mounted on a versatile 8×8 vehicle. This international premiere follows its successful integration and operational deployment within the Turkish Armed Forces, initially in a tracked vehicle format.
What sets the KORKUT system apart is its adaptability to diverse operational requirements. The Weapon System Vehicle and Command-and-Control Vehicle configurations, developed as part of the Korkut Project, are based on the FNSS ACV-30 platform. Notably, these vehicles boast full amphibious capabilities, enabling them to navigate deep waters and rivers with ease.
At the heart of each weapon platform lies the formidable twin 2×35 mm Oerlikon KDC-02 cannon, produced under license by MKEK. These cannons offer unparalleled firepower, capable of deploying various types of 35×228 mm ammunition, including the cutting-edge ASELSAN-manufactured ATOM 35mm airburst ammunition.
The ATOM ammunition represents a significant leap in smart projectile technology, featuring a base fuse with precise time-counting capabilities. This allows for real-time programming during firing, taking into account factors such as muzzle velocity to ensure optimal detonation at a predetermined distance from the target.
Moreover, the ATOM ammunition’s resistance to electromagnetic jamming further solidifies its status as a game-changer in modern air defense strategies. By unleashing a barrage of tungsten pellets upon detonation, it systematically targets critical components of airborne threats, causing cumulative damage that compromises their functionality and ultimately neutralizes the threat.
