Assam Rifles Foils Major Security Threat in Mizoram – Huge Cache of Weapons, Ammunition and War-Like Stores Recovered in Champhai
Champhai, Mizoram | 30 August 2025 – In a significant counter-insurgency breakthrough, the Assam Rifles has successfully averted a major potential security threat in Mizoram with the recovery of a large cache of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and war-like stores in Champhai district. Acting swiftly on specific intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles troops launched a meticulously planned operation on 29 August 2025 in Saikumphai village, located near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Champhai district – a region notorious for arms smuggling routes and insurgent activities.
According to defence sources, the operation began with a cordon and search of a suspected house in Saikumphai village. During the raid, troops recovered one 12 Bore Rifle, one pistol, along with ammunition and explosives. The owner of the house was apprehended on the spot, raising immediate suspicion of his involvement in smuggling and storage of illegal arms.
Hidden Cache Unearthed in Forest Area
The operation, however, did not end there. Following interrogation and pursuit in the adjoining forest near the village, the Assam Rifles team unearthed a hidden cache containing a staggering arsenal of weapons and explosives. The recovery included:
- Weapons: One Heckler & Koch G3 Assault Rifle, two Springfield sniper rifles, two shotguns, and one MA Assault Rifle.
- Ammunition: 75 live sniper rounds, 92 live .303 tracer rounds, 30 live 7.62mm rounds, 8 live 12 Bore rounds, 2 fired 12 Bore cases, 91 live 5.56mm rounds, and one live and one fired 9mm round.
- Explosives: Three drums of Cordtex, seven packets of PEK, one cylindrical packet of explosives, and several materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
- War-Like Stores: Two advanced scopes, one bulletproof plate, three bulletproof jackets, and one ammunition belt.
Officials confirmed that the presence of sniper rifles, explosives, and IED-making materials indicated preparations for a possible large-scale attack that could have destabilized law and order in the region.
Strategic Significance of the Recovery
Champhai district, located along the porous India-Myanmar border, has long been a vulnerable zone for cross-border smuggling of arms, narcotics, and contraband. Intelligence agencies had been closely monitoring the movement of insurgent groups and smuggling syndicates who exploit the difficult terrain and porous border. The Assam Rifles’ operation has not only seized a deadly cache but also disrupted potential insurgent supply chains.
By recovering high-caliber sniper rifles and explosives in such large quantities, security forces believe they have thwarted a conspiracy aimed at escalating violence in Mizoram and adjoining states. Defence analysts suggest that the seized items could have been intended either for insurgent groups operating across the border in Myanmar or for anti-national elements attempting to stir unrest in the northeast.
Handed Over for Further Investigation
The apprehended individual, whose identity has not yet been disclosed officially, has been handed over to the Dungtlang Police Department along with the seized arms and ammunition for detailed investigation. Sources indicate that multiple agencies, including state police, military intelligence, and counter-insurgency specialists, will interrogate the accused to uncover possible links with insurgent outfits or smuggling networks.
The Assam Rifles, known as the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” have once again reinforced their role as the frontline guardians of India’s sensitive northeastern borders. Their action has not only averted a grave security threat but has also sent a strong message to arms smugglers and insurgents that the Indian security forces remain vigilant and uncompromising in defending the nation’s internal security.

असम राइफल्स की बड़ी कामयाबी – मिजोरम के चंफाई में भारी मात्रा में हथियार, गोला-बारूद और युद्ध सामग्री बरामद, एक व्यक्ति गिरफ्तार
चंफाई, मिजोरम | 30 अगस्त 2025 – पूर्वोत्तर में सुरक्षा बलों को एक बड़ी सफलता मिली है। असम राइफल्स ने मिजोरम के चंफाई जिले के साइकुमफाई गांव में गुप्त सूचना के आधार पर तलाशी अभियान चलाकर भारी मात्रा में हथियार, गोला-बारूद, विस्फोटक और युद्ध जैसी सामग्री बरामद की है। इस कार्रवाई में एक संदिग्ध व्यक्ति को भी गिरफ्तार किया गया है।
यह अभियान 29 अगस्त 2025 को शुरू किया गया, जब असम राइफल्स को साइकुमफाई गांव के एक घर में अवैध हथियार और विस्फोटक छिपाए जाने की पुख्ता जानकारी मिली। घर की तलाशी के दौरान एक 12 बोर रायफल, एक पिस्तौल, कारतूस और विस्फोटक सामग्री बरामद की गई। घर के मालिक को तुरंत हिरासत में ले लिया गया।
जंगल से मिला छिपा हुआ जखीरा
सिर्फ यही नहीं, गिरफ्तारी के बाद सुरक्षाबलों ने गांव से लगे जंगल में गहन तलाशी अभियान चलाया, जिसमें उन्हें एक बड़ा हथियारों का जखीरा मिला। इसमें शामिल थे –
- हथियार: एक Heckler & Koch G3 असॉल्ट राइफल, दो Springfield स्नाइपर राइफलें, दो शॉटगन और एक MA असॉल्ट राइफल।
- गोला-बारूद: 75 स्नाइपर राउंड, 92 ट्रेसर राउंड (.303), 30 राउंड (7.62mm), 8 राउंड (12 बोर), 91 राउंड (5.56mm), और 9mm के दो कारतूस (एक जिंदा, एक फायर किया हुआ)।
- विस्फोटक: कॉर्डटेक्स से भरे 3 ड्रम, 7 पैकेट PEK, एक बेलनाकार विस्फोटक पैकेट और IED बनाने के उपकरण।
- युद्ध सामग्री: दो स्कोप, एक बुलेटप्रूफ प्लेट, तीन बुलेटप्रूफ जैकेट और एक बेल्ट।
बरामद हथियारों और विस्फोटकों की प्रकृति इस बात की ओर इशारा करती है कि इलाके में किसी बड़े हमले या अशांति फैलाने की साजिश रची जा रही थी।
सामरिक महत्व और सुरक्षा बलों की सतर्कता
मिजोरम का चंफाई जिला भारत-म्यांमार सीमा से सटा हुआ है। यह इलाका लंबे समय से हथियार और नशीले पदार्थों की तस्करी का मार्ग माना जाता है। कठिन भौगोलिक परिस्थितियों और खुली सीमा का फायदा उठाकर कई बार असमाजिक तत्व यहां सक्रिय पाए गए हैं। इस बार असम राइफल्स की सटीक कार्रवाई ने एक गंभीर सुरक्षा खतरे को टाल दिया।
विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि इतनी बड़ी मात्रा में स्नाइपर राइफलें और विस्फोटक मिलना इस ओर इशारा करता है कि या तो ये हथियार म्यांमार के विद्रोही संगठनों के लिए भेजे जाने वाले थे या फिर भारत के पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों में अस्थिरता फैलाने की योजना का हिस्सा थे।
पुलिस को सौंपा गया मामला
गिरफ्तार व्यक्ति और बरामद हथियारों को पुलिस थाने दुंगटलांग को आगे की जांच के लिए सौंप दिया गया है। माना जा रहा है कि इस मामले में सुरक्षा एजेंसियां आरोपी से पूछताछ कर उसके नेटवर्क और संपर्कों का पता लगाएंगी।
“सेंटिनल्स ऑफ द नॉर्थईस्ट” कहे जाने वाले असम राइफल्स ने एक बार फिर साबित कर दिया है कि वे देश की सीमाओं और आंतरिक सुरक्षा के सबसे मजबूत प्रहरी हैं।
