In a joint operation, the Military Intelligence, Southern Command, and CCB, Bengaluru, nabbed a Kerala-based man for allegedly defrauding the telecommunications department and compromising the nation’s security.

Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru, in collaboration with Military Intelligence, Southern Command, has detained a Kerala-based network detective for allegedly defrauding the telecommunications department and compromising the country’s security.The detainee, Sharafudeen, 41, is said to have been illegally running a telephone exchange and placing hundreds of mobile SIM cards into electronic devices, which converted foreign phone calls into local calls.
Sharafudeen is said to be a native of Chudel, Wayanad district, Kerala.Preliminary investigations have revealed that the detainee used 58 electronic devices (SIM BOX) to install 2,144 SIM cards in four locations of the Bagalgunte main road area including Bhuvaneswari Nagar, Chikkasandra and Siddheshwar layout for unauthorizedly converting international (ISD) phone calls into local calls, and conducting security and other unauthorized activities.This input came to light when Pakistani intelligence operatives used one of the SIM BOX to obtain information from a defence installation.
CCB officials have registered a case with the Bangalore city cyber-crime police station and are continuing their investigation to find out how many are still bending the network. The team was led by CCB unit officials and Military Intelligence, Southern Command, Bengaluru.
