Renowned across India for its fiery aroma and distinct flavour, Jodhpur’s iconic Mathania chilli has now found itself at the centre of a disturbing narcotics racket. What was once a symbol of Rajasthan’s culinary heritage is increasingly being exploited by organised drug syndicates as a sophisticated camouflage for trafficking synthetic drugs like MD and smack. Recent investigations by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) have revealed a chilling new modus operandi, where traffickers hollow out green chillies and hide narcotic substances inside them before sending consignments to major metropolitan cities.
A Shocking Discovery Inside an Ordinary Bus Parcel
The racket came to light after a routine inspection of a suspicious parcel being transported on a private bus travelling from Jodhpur to Hyderabad. At first glance, the consignment appeared completely harmless, filled with ordinary green chillies stacked in traditional sacks. However, deeper scrutiny revealed a far more sinister reality. While the upper layer of chillies was untouched, the chillies placed at the bottom had been slit open carefully and stuffed with drug packets wrapped in silver foil. Officials were stunned by the level of precision and planning involved, indicating the hand of experienced traffickers attempting to bypass conventional security checks.
One Chilli, Thousands of Rupees: The Economics of Concealed Narcotics
According to investigating officers, each chilli is capable of concealing two to five small pouches of MD or smack. This innovative concealment dramatically increases the value of a single chilli in the illegal market, fetching anywhere between ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 per piece once it reaches its destination. The use of chillies not only masks the smell of drugs but also allows traffickers to transport significant quantities in plain sight, exploiting the regular movement of agricultural produce through road transport networks.
Jodhpur Emerging as a Critical Transit Point
In the past few days alone, large quantities of MD drugs have been seized from areas such as Chopasni Housing Board and BGS Colony in Jodhpur. These seizures suggest that the city is rapidly emerging as a key transit hub in a larger interstate narcotics network. Law enforcement agencies believe that drugs sourced or processed locally are being funnelled out to cities like Hyderabad, where demand remains high. The increasing frequency of seizures has raised alarm bells within both the police and narcotics departments.
A New Modus Operandi Poses a Major Challenge for Enforcement Agencies
Officials admit that this chilli-based concealment technique presents a serious operational challenge. Unlike traditional methods involving hidden compartments or chemical masking, agricultural produce is harder to regulate without disrupting legitimate trade. Buses carrying vegetables and spices routinely cross state borders, making it easier for traffickers to blend into normal commercial activity. The NCB has acknowledged that this evolving modus operandi requires enhanced intelligence gathering, stricter surveillance of transport routes, and closer coordination with transport operators.
NCB Sounds the Alarm, Issues Public Advisory
Taking serious note of the threat, the Narcotics Control Bureau in Jodhpur has issued a formal alert urging both the general public and delivery agencies to remain vigilant. NCB Director Ghanshyam Soni stated that traffickers are deliberately using chilli sacks to deceive law enforcement and move drugs undetected to major urban centres. He emphasised that ordinary citizens, transporters, and courier services are often the first line of defence against such criminal operations.
MANAS Helpline 1933: Public Participation Becomes Crucial
To strengthen grassroots intelligence, the NCB has reiterated the importance of the MANAS helpline number 1933, encouraging people to report any suspicious parcels, unusual consignments, or dubious courier activity. Authorities have stressed that information provided by citizens can be decisive in dismantling drug networks. The department has assured confidentiality for informants and underlined that public participation is indispensable in the fight against narcotics.
Increased Surveillance on Bus Routes and Chemical Movements
Officials have confirmed that surveillance on private buses, particularly those travelling to southern states, has been intensified. Special attention is being given to consignments labelled as vegetables, spices, or perishable goods. The movement of suspicious chemicals and narcotics through bus networks is now under continuous monitoring, with joint operations planned between local police units and central agencies.
A Growing Threat Hidden in Plain Sight
The use of Mathania chillies for drug trafficking highlights the alarming adaptability of narcotics syndicates. By exploiting cultural familiarity and everyday commodities, traffickers are attempting to normalise crime and evade detection. Authorities warn that if unchecked, such methods could severely undermine drug control efforts and pose a grave threat to public health, particularly among the youth.
The Battle Against Drugs Demands Collective Vigilance
As investigations continue, the NCB has made it clear that enforcement alone will not be enough to curb this menace. The success of anti-drug operations now hinges on collective vigilance, timely information, and societal responsibility. From bus operators and delivery agencies to ordinary citizens, everyone has a role to play in ensuring that Rajasthan’s agricultural pride is not turned into a vehicle for destruction.

अपनी तीखी खुशबू, स्वाद और पहचान के लिए देश-विदेश में मशहूर जोधपुर की मथानिया मिर्च अब एक बेहद खतरनाक अपराध की कहानी से जुड़ गई है। राजस्थान की खाद्य विरासत का यह प्रतीक अब नशे के सौदागरों के लिए एक नया और बेहद चालाक हथियार बनता जा रहा है। हालिया खुलासों में सामने आया है कि तस्कर हरी मिर्च को बीच से चीरकर उसके भीतर एमडी और स्मैक जैसे जानलेवा नशीले पदार्थ भर रहे हैं और फिर इन्हें बसों और पार्सल नेटवर्क के ज़रिए दूसरे राज्यों तक पहुंचाया जा रहा है।
एक साधारण पार्सल, अंदर छिपा था खौफनाक सच
यह सनसनीखेज मामला तब सामने आया जब जोधपुर से हैदराबाद जा रही एक निजी बस में संदिग्ध पार्सल की जांच की गई। पहली नज़र में यह पूरी तरह सामान्य सब्जी का पार्सल लग रहा था, जिसमें ऊपर की परत में ताज़ी और साबुत हरी मिर्च रखी हुई थी। लेकिन जब अधिकारियों ने नीचे की परत को खंगाला, तो मिर्चों के भीतर सिल्वर फॉइल में लिपटी ड्रग्स की पुड़ियां बरामद हुईं। इस खुलासे ने सुरक्षा एजेंसियों को भी चौंका दिया, क्योंकि तस्करी का यह तरीका बेहद योजनाबद्ध और पेशेवर अपराधियों की ओर इशारा करता है।
एक मिर्च, हजारों की कमाई: नशे के धंधे का नया गणित
जांच में सामने आया है कि एक-एक मिर्च के अंदर दो से पांच तक ड्रग्स की पुड़ियां छिपाई जाती हैं। यही कारण है कि साधारण दिखने वाली एक मिर्च की कीमत नशे के बाजार में 4 से 5 हजार रुपये तक पहुंच जाती है। मिर्च की तीखी गंध ड्रग्स की पहचान को छिपा देती है, जिससे डॉग स्क्वॉड और प्राथमिक जांच भी कई बार चकमा खा जाती है। इस तरीके से कम मात्रा में भी बड़ी आर्थिक कमाई की जा रही है।
जोधपुर बनता जा रहा है अंतरराज्यीय तस्करी का अहम केंद्र
पिछले कुछ ही दिनों में जोधपुर के चौपासनी हाउसिंग बोर्ड और बीजीएस कॉलोनी जैसे इलाकों से भारी मात्रा में एमडी ड्रग्स की बरामदगी इस बात का संकेत है कि शहर अब नशे के नेटवर्क का एक अहम ट्रांजिट पॉइंट बनता जा रहा है। जांच एजेंसियों का मानना है कि यहां से नशे की खेप हैदराबाद जैसे बड़े महानगरों में भेजी जा रही है, जहां इसकी मांग काफी अधिक है। लगातार हो रही बरामदगियों ने पुलिस और नारकोटिक्स विभाग की चिंता बढ़ा दी है।
नया ‘मोडस ऑपरेंडी’, सुरक्षा एजेंसियों के लिए बड़ी चुनौती
नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो और पुलिस अधिकारियों का कहना है कि मिर्च के जरिए की जा रही तस्करी पारंपरिक तरीकों से कहीं अधिक जटिल है। कृषि उत्पादों की आवाजाही आमतौर पर संदेह के घेरे में नहीं आती, और बसों के माध्यम से रोज़ाना हजारों किलो सब्जियां और मसाले राज्य की सीमाएं पार करते हैं। तस्कर इसी सिस्टम का फायदा उठा रहे हैं, जिससे वैध व्यापार और अवैध गतिविधि के बीच अंतर करना मुश्किल होता जा रहा है।
नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो का अलर्ट, जनता से सहयोग की अपील
नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो, जोधपुर ने इस गंभीर मामले को लेकर अलर्ट जारी करते हुए आम नागरिकों, ट्रांसपोर्टरों और डिलीवरी एजेंसियों से सतर्क रहने की अपील की है। एनसीबी जोधपुर के निदेशक घनश्याम सोनी ने कहा कि तस्कर जानबूझकर मिर्च की बोरियों का इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं ताकि पुलिस और सुरक्षा एजेंसियों को चकमा दिया जा सके। उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि इस नेटवर्क को तोड़ने के लिए जनता की भूमिका बेहद अहम है।
‘मानस’ हेल्पलाइन 1933: नशे के खिलाफ जंग में जनता की भागीदारी
एनसीबी ने ‘मानस’ हेल्पलाइन नंबर 1933 को दोहराते हुए कहा है कि किसी भी संदिग्ध पार्सल, बस बुकिंग, या कूरियर मूवमेंट की जानकारी तुरंत इस नंबर पर दी जा सकती है। अधिकारियों ने भरोसा दिलाया है कि सूचना देने वालों की पहचान पूरी तरह गोपनीय रखी जाएगी। नशे के खिलाफ इस लड़ाई में सूचना तंत्र और नागरिक सहभागिता को सबसे मजबूत हथियार माना जा रहा है।
बस रूट्स और संदिग्ध केमिकल मूवमेंट पर कड़ी निगरानी
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, निजी बसों के जरिए नशीले पदार्थों और संदिग्ध केमिकल की आवाजाही पर अब विशेष निगरानी रखी जा रही है। खासतौर पर दक्षिण भारत की ओर जाने वाले रूट्स पर चेकिंग बढ़ा दी गई है। सब्जी, मसाले और कृषि उत्पादों के नाम पर भेजे जा रहे पार्सलों की गहन जांच की जा रही है ताकि इस नए नेटवर्क को जड़ से खत्म किया जा सके।
आम चीज़ों में छिपा बड़ा खतरा
मथानिया मिर्च के जरिए नशे की तस्करी यह दिखाती है कि अपराधी किस हद तक जाकर कानून को चुनौती दे रहे हैं। रोजमर्रा में इस्तेमाल होने वाली चीज़ों को अपराध का हथियार बनाना समाज के लिए बेहद खतरनाक संकेत है। अधिकारियों का मानना है कि यदि समय रहते इस पर लगाम नहीं लगी, तो इसका सबसे बड़ा शिकार युवा पीढ़ी बनेगी।
नशे के खिलाफ निर्णायक लड़ाई के लिए सामूहिक सतर्कता जरूरी
जांच अभी जारी है, लेकिन नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो ने साफ कर दिया है कि केवल सरकारी एजेंसियां ही इस लड़ाई को नहीं जीत सकतीं। बस ऑपरेटर, सब्जी व्यापारी, कूरियर कंपनियां और आम नागरिक—सभी को सतर्क रहना होगा। राजस्थान की पहचान और उसकी मिर्च की खुशबू को ज़हर में बदलने की इस साजिश को नाकाम करना अब पूरे समाज की जिम्मेदारी बन चुका है।
