While the Rajasthan government has officially announced that the agitation has concluded following written assurances, the ground reality at the protest site tells a different story. Saints, environmental activists, and representatives of the Bishnoi community insist that the ‘Maha Padav’—a large-scale sit-in protest—remains firmly in place, as the assurances provided so far have not fully addressed their long-standing demands.
Written Government Assurance Sparks Debate but Fails to Bring Complete Closure
After weeks of continuous protests, hunger strikes, and mounting pressure, the state government issued a written assurance stating that Khejri trees would not be felled in the Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions. This assurance was projected by the government as a decisive step toward resolving the conflict. However, protest leaders and community representatives have underlined that the scope of the assurance remains limited and region-specific, leaving room for ambiguity in other parts of Rajasthan. According to them, while the written commitment is a positive development, it falls short of guaranteeing statewide protection for Khejri trees, which hold ecological, cultural, and spiritual significance across Rajasthan.
Bishnoi Community Demands Statewide Protection Policy for Khejri Trees
The Bishnoi community, historically known for its deep-rooted commitment to environmental conservation, has maintained that the struggle is not merely about two administrative divisions. Protesters argue that Khejri trees are under threat in multiple districts due to infrastructure projects, mining activities, and administrative clearances issued without adequate environmental safeguards. They have demanded a comprehensive, statewide government order that explicitly bans the felling of Khejri trees and institutionalizes their protection through law and policy. Until such a clear and binding decision is announced, the community has categorically refused to declare the agitation over.
‘Maha Padav’ Continues as Hunger Strike Withdrawal Proposal Rejected
At the protest site, the atmosphere remains charged yet resolute. Youth participants and senior community leaders have rejected proposals to withdraw the ongoing hunger strike, stating that symbolic assurances are not enough when the survival of an ecologically critical species is at stake. Protesters have reiterated that past experiences have made them cautious, as verbal and limited written assurances have often been diluted over time. Allegations of Political Interference and Government’s Counter Narrative
Minister K.K. Bishnoi further alleged that certain political elements attempted to derail the movement by giving it a political color. राजस्थान के राज्य वृक्ष खेजड़ी को बचाने को लेकर चल रहा खेजड़ी बचाओ आंदोलन अब एक निर्णायक मोड़ पर पहुंच गया है, जहां सरकार और आंदोलनकारियों के दावों के बीच साफ टकराव नजर आ रहा है। एक ओर राज्य सरकार और मंत्री यह दावा कर रहे हैं कि आंदोलन समाप्त हो चुका है, वहीं दूसरी ओर धरना स्थल पर मौजूद साधु-संत, पर्यावरण प्रेमी और बिश्नोई समाज के प्रतिनिधि स्पष्ट रूप से कह रहे हैं कि ‘महा पड़ाव’ अभी भी जारी है और जब तक पूरे राजस्थान के लिए खेजड़ी संरक्षण को लेकर ठोस और स्पष्ट निर्णय नहीं होता, तब तक आंदोलन समाप्त नहीं किया जाएगा।
लिखित आश्वासन के बाद भी असमंजस, दो संभागों तक सीमित फैसला बना विवाद की जड़
लंबे समय से चल रहे आमरण अनशन, धरना और जनदबाव के बाद राज्य सरकार ने लिखित आश्वासन जारी किया कि बीकानेर और जोधपुर संभाग में खेजड़ी के पेड़ों की कटाई नहीं की जाएगी। सरकार की ओर से इसे आंदोलन के समाधान के रूप में पेश किया गया, लेकिन आंदोलनकारियों का कहना है कि यह फैसला अधूरा और सीमित है। उनके अनुसार खेजड़ी केवल दो संभागों की धरोहर नहीं है, बल्कि पूरे राजस्थान की पारिस्थितिकी, संस्कृति और परंपरा से जुड़ा हुआ वृक्ष है, ऐसे में केवल कुछ क्षेत्रों तक प्रतिबंध लगाना भविष्य में नए संकट को जन्म दे सकता है।
बिश्नोई समाज की स्पष्ट मांग— पूरे राजस्थान में खेजड़ी संरक्षण का आदेश हो लागू
धरने पर बैठे बिश्नोई समाज के प्रतिनिधियों और संतों का कहना है कि वे किसी टकराव के पक्ष में नहीं हैं, बल्कि एक स्थायी समाधान चाहते हैं। उनका कहना है कि राज्य के कई जिलों में विकास परियोजनाओं, सड़क निर्माण, बिजली लाइनों और खनन कार्यों की आड़ में खेजड़ी के पेड़ों पर लगातार खतरा बना हुआ है। आंदोलनकारियों ने मांग की है कि सरकार पूरे राजस्थान के लिए एक स्पष्ट, लिखित और बाध्यकारी आदेश जारी करे, जिससे भविष्य में किसी भी स्तर पर खेजड़ी की कटाई न हो सके और अधिकारियों के लिए इसका उल्लंघन करना संभव न रहे।
‘महा पड़ाव’ जारी, आमरण अनशन समाप्त करने के प्रस्ताव को आंदोलनकारियों ने ठुकराया
धरना स्थल पर मौजूद युवाओं और समाज के वरिष्ठ लोगों ने आमरण अनशन समाप्त करने के प्रस्ताव को फिलहाल स्वीकार करने से इनकार कर दिया है। उनका कहना है कि यह आंदोलन केवल एक मांग तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए पर्यावरण संरक्षण की लड़ाई है। आंदोलनकारियों का मानना है कि यदि अभी स्पष्ट नीति नहीं बनी, तो भविष्य में फिर इसी तरह के संघर्ष करने पड़ेंगे। इसी कारण ‘महा पड़ाव’ को प्रतीकात्मक नहीं, बल्कि निर्णायक आंदोलन के रूप में जारी रखा गया है।
मंत्री केके बिश्नोई का दावा— सरकार ने वादा निभाया, आंदोलन समाप्त हो चुका
दूसरी ओर, राज्य सरकार की तरफ से मंत्री केके बिश्नोई ने मीडिया से बातचीत में दावा किया कि सरकार ने वही किया है, जो साधु-संतों और समाज से कहा गया था। मंत्री के अनुसार सरकार ने समय रहते जनभावनाओं को समझा और बीकानेर तथा जोधपुर संभाग में खेजड़ी कटाई पर रोक लगाकर बड़ा फैसला लिया। उन्होंने कहा कि इस निर्णय के बाद आंदोलन समाप्त माना जाना चाहिए और सरकार किसी भी स्तर पर अपने वादे से पीछे नहीं हटी है।
मुख्यमंत्री भजनलाल शर्मा की प्रशंसा, जनहितैषी नेतृत्व का किया उल्लेख
मंत्री केके बिश्नोई ने मुख्यमंत्री भजनलाल शर्मा की खुलकर प्रशंसा करते हुए उन्हें जनभावनाओं को समझने वाला नेता बताया। मंत्री के अनुसार मुख्यमंत्री के नेतृत्व में सरकार ने यह स्पष्ट कर दिया है कि पर्यावरण संरक्षण और समाज की आस्था सरकार की प्राथमिकता में है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार का उद्देश्य कभी भी खेजड़ी जैसे पवित्र और उपयोगी वृक्ष को नुकसान पहुंचाना नहीं था, बल्कि विकास और संरक्षण के बीच संतुलन बनाना था।
आंदोलन को राजनीतिक रंग देने के आरोप, सरकार ने साधा निशाना
मंत्री ने यह आरोप भी लगाया कि कुछ राजनीतिक तत्वों ने आंदोलन को भटकाने और राजनीतिक लाभ के लिए इस्तेमाल करने की कोशिश की। उनके अनुसार सरकार ने इन प्रयासों से खुद को अलग रखते हुए केवल समाधान पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया। हालांकि आंदोलनकारियों ने इन आरोपों को सिरे से खारिज करते हुए कहा कि यह आंदोलन पूरी तरह समाज और पर्यावरण की रक्षा के लिए है, न कि किसी राजनीतिक एजेंडे के तहत।
खेजड़ी केवल पेड़ नहीं, राजस्थान की जीवनरेखा और सांस्कृतिक पहचान
खेजड़ी बचाओ आंदोलन केवल प्रशासनिक निर्णयों तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह राजस्थान की पारंपरिक पर्यावरणीय सोच और सांस्कृतिक विरासत से जुड़ा मुद्दा बन चुका है। खेजड़ी वृक्ष मरुस्थलीय पारिस्थितिकी के लिए बेहद अहम माना जाता है, जो मिट्टी की उर्वरता बढ़ाने, पशुधन को चारा देने और जैव विविधता को संतुलित रखने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है। बिश्नोई समाज के लिए खेजड़ी की रक्षा धार्मिक आस्था और जीवन दर्शन का हिस्सा है, जिसे वे किसी भी कीमत पर छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं हैं।
बातचीत जारी, राजस्थान की नजरें अंतिम फैसले पर टिकीं
खबर लिखे जाने तक सरकार और आंदोलनकारियों के बीच बातचीत का दौर जारी रहा। जहां सरकार इसे समाप्त आंदोलन मान रही है, वहीं बिश्नोई समाज और पर्यावरण प्रेमी इसे अधूरा समाधान बता रहे हैं। अब पूरे राजस्थान की नजर इस बात पर टिकी है कि सरकार क्या पूरे राज्य के लिए खेजड़ी संरक्षण को लेकर कोई ठोस और स्पष्ट आदेश जारी करती है या नहीं। यह आंदोलन आने वाले समय में राजस्थान की पर्यावरण नीति और जनआंदोलनों की दिशा तय करने वाला साबित हो सकता है।
