Outcry in Bikaner: Protesters Arrested During Indefinite Sit-in Against Ayushman Heart Care Centre and Dr. B.L. Swami

The city of Bikaner has been gripped by tension after police detained several protesters, including Congress State Secretary Ramniwas Kukna and Krishnakumar Godara, who were leading an indefinite peaceful sit-in outside the controversial Ayushman Heart Care Centre. The protest, which had drawn support from hundreds of families, was aimed at seeking justice for alleged medical malpractices and negligence by the hospital and its director, Dr. B.L. Swami.
For months, grievances have mounted against the hospital, with patients’ families accusing the institution of unethical practices, misdiagnosis, and alleged profiteering in the name of critical healthcare. Families claim that their loved ones not only received substandard treatment but in many cases also suffered irreparable losses, leaving them financially drained and emotionally scarred.
What began as scattered voices of dissent has now grown into a collective movement. Residents of Bikaner and adjoining districts have been demanding accountability, transparency, and justice. The arrest of prominent leaders and victims’ representatives has only fuelled anger on the ground, with many describing the police action as an attempt to suppress the voice of the common people.
Eyewitnesses at the protest site reported that despite the demonstrators maintaining complete non-violence, police forcibly removed them from the area and detained several individuals. “We were sitting silently, demanding only justice. Instead of hearing us, they chose to silence us,” said one distraught protester.
The issue has quickly escalated into a political flashpoint, with local leaders and activists criticizing the authorities for siding with corporate healthcare interests at the expense of patients’ rights. Civil society members argue that such heavy-handed policing against peaceful demonstrators undermines democratic principles.
The controversy surrounding Dr. B.L. Swami and Ayushman Heart Care Centre is not new. Allegations of overcharging, lack of proper post-operative care, and denial of emergency facilities have been surfacing for years. However, the grievances of affected families had largely remained fragmented until now. The current movement, organized under the leadership of Kukna and Godara, brought these scattered voices together into one powerful demand for justice.
Observers believe that the arrests could backfire, potentially intensifying the protests further. “When you push a peaceful movement into silence, it only erupts stronger,” a senior political analyst noted. The families have vowed to continue their fight until their demands are met, declaring that justice cannot be traded off for intimidation.

बीकानेर में गुरुवार को उस समय माहौल गरमा गया जब कांग्रेस प्रदेश सचिव रामनिवास कुकणा और कृष्णकुमार गोदारा सहित दर्जनों लोगों को पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार कर लिया। ये सभी लोग आयुष्मान हार्ट केयर सेंटर और इसके निदेशक डॉ. बी.एल. स्वामी के खिलाफ चल रहे अनिश्चितकालीन शांतिपूर्ण धरने का नेतृत्व कर रहे थे। धरना पीड़ित परिवारों को न्याय दिलाने की मांग को लेकर आयोजित किया गया था।
हजारों परिवार लंबे समय से इस अस्पताल के खिलाफ आवाज़ उठा रहे हैं। आरोप है कि अस्पताल और डॉक्टर स्वामी की देखरेख में अनेक रोगियों के साथ गंभीर लापरवाही, गलत इलाज और अनावश्यक आर्थिक शोषण हुआ। कई परिवारों ने अपने परिजनों को खोने के दुख के साथ-साथ कर्ज और आर्थिक संकट का सामना भी किया।
इन पीड़ित परिवारों का आक्रोश अब एक बड़े आंदोलन में बदल चुका है। बीकानेर ही नहीं, बल्कि आसपास के जिलों से भी लोग इस विरोध में शामिल हो रहे हैं। लेकिन गुरुवार को शांतिपूर्ण ढंग से बैठे लोगों को जब पुलिस ने हटाने और गिरफ्तार करने का कदम उठाया तो हालात और बिगड़ गए।
धरनास्थल पर मौजूद चश्मदीदों के अनुसार, प्रदर्शनकारी नारेबाजी तक नहीं कर रहे थे और शांतिपूर्वक बैठे थे। “हम सिर्फ न्याय की मांग कर रहे थे। हमारे पास हिंसा का कोई इरादा नहीं था। लेकिन हमें खींचकर ले जाया गया,” एक महिला ने रोते हुए बताया।
यह मामला अब सियासी रंग ले चुका है। विपक्षी दलों और सामाजिक संगठनों ने पुलिस कार्रवाई को अलोकतांत्रिक बताते हुए कड़ी निंदा की है। उनका कहना है कि सरकार कॉर्पोरेट स्वास्थ्य संस्थानों के हितों को बचाने के लिए पीड़ितों की आवाज़ दबा रही है।
डॉ. बी.एल. स्वामी और आयुष्मान हार्ट केयर सेंटर के खिलाफ पहले भी शिकायतें उठ चुकी हैं। महंगे इलाज, गलत जांच रिपोर्ट, और आपातकालीन सुविधाओं की कमी जैसे गंभीर आरोप लंबे समय से सामने आते रहे हैं। लेकिन पीड़ित परिवारों की आवाज़ कभी संगठित नहीं हो पाई थी। कुकणा और गोदारा के नेतृत्व में अब यह विरोध एक साझा आंदोलन बन गया है।
राजनीतिक विश्लेषकों का मानना है कि गिरफ्तारियां इस आंदोलन को और भड़का सकती हैं। “जब आप शांतिपूर्ण विरोध को कुचलने की कोशिश करते हैं, तो वह और ताकत के साथ उभरता है,” एक विश्लेषक ने कहा। पीड़ित परिवारों ने साफ कर दिया है कि वे पीछे नहीं हटेंगे और न्याय मिलने तक संघर्ष जारी रहेगा।
बीकानेर की यह लड़ाई केवल एक अस्पताल या डॉक्टर के खिलाफ नहीं है, बल्कि यह पूरे स्वास्थ्य तंत्र की खामियों और रोगी अधिकारों की अनदेखी पर सवाल उठाती है। पीड़ित परिवारों का संदेश साफ है— “न्याय बिकाऊ नहीं है।”
