Pakistan High Commission Issues 2,100 Visas to Sikh Pilgrims for Guru Nanak Jayanti Celebrations
New Delhi, October 29, 2025 — In a move reaffirming the spirit of religious harmony and people-to-people ties, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi announced on Wednesday that it has issued more than 2,100 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India. These pilgrims will participate in the upcoming celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, scheduled to take place in Pakistan from November 4 to 13, 2025.
Over 2,100 Pilgrims Granted Visas
In an official post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Pakistan High Commission said, “The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued over 2,100 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India to participate in the Birth Celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, to be held in Pakistan from 04–13 November 2025.”
The announcement, warmly received by the Sikh community, highlights the continuing implementation of the 1974 bilateral protocol between India and Pakistan, which governs the facilitation of pilgrimages for religious devotees of both nations.
Pilgrimage Under the 1974 Bilateral Protocol
The visits are organized under the Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines, signed between India and Pakistan in 1974. The agreement allows devotees from each side to visit designated shrines and spiritual sites across the border. Under this arrangement, thousands of Sikh pilgrims travel to Pakistan every year to offer prayers at key gurdwaras, including the Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, as well as Panja Sahib, Dera Sahib, and Kartarpur Sahib.
Despite fluctuations in diplomatic relations, this religious exchange remains a persistent bridge of connection between the two nations.
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa Welcomes the Move
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, speaking earlier this month, praised the Government of India for facilitating the continuation of Sikh pilgrimages to Pakistan. In a public video message, Sirsa extended gratitude to both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, recognizing their efforts to uphold the spiritual and cultural link that binds Sikh devotees across borders.
“The jathas that used to visit Pakistan to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji will also visit this year,” Sirsa said. He urged representative bodies such as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) to expedite documentation and formalities necessary for the travel of pilgrims.
Gratitude to Indian Leadership
Minister Sirsa recalled the historic decision to open the Kartarpur Corridor in 2019, a corridor that enables visa-free travel for Indian Sikh pilgrims to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan. He said, “I express my deepest gratitude to the Prime Minister of India and the Home Minister of the country, who, despite strained relations, opened the Kartarpur shrine on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab in 2019. This time, the leadership has once again demonstrated the same reverence and commitment.”
Sirsa’s remarks emphasized the continuity of faith-based diplomacy, underscoring the belief that religion should transcend political barriers.
A Symbol of Faith Amid Diplomatic Strain
The issuance of visas and the facilitation of pilgrimage arrangements have come at a time when India-Pakistan relations remain tense over various political and security concerns. Yet, religious pilgrimages have historically served as an enduring channel of communication and goodwill.
The High Commission’s announcement is seen by many as a reaffirmation of both nations’ shared cultural ties and mutual respect for religious sentiments. The pilgrimage further reinforces the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — unity, peace, and equality among all.
Coordination Between Both Governments
Officials familiar with the matter stated that the governments of India and Pakistan are coordinating security and logistical measures to ensure the safe and smooth passage of pilgrims across the border. Both countries are expected to implement strict monitoring along transportation routes, housing arrangements, and site management during the festival period.
The pilgrims will visit several sacred sites, including Gurdwara Janam Asthan at Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal, and other historically significant places linked to the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Annual Pilgrimages Symbolize Shared Heritage
Each year, thousands of Sikh pilgrims participate in cross-border religious visits, including those for Prakash Purab (Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji), Baisakhi, and the Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The continued adherence to this annual tradition underscores how faith and culture can outlive political fluctuations.
The 2025 pilgrimage, in particular, carries heightened symbolic importance, arriving during a period when renewed regional dialogue and people-to-people contacts are being encouraged through cultural and religious diplomacy.
Kartarpur Corridor: A Continuing Spiritual Bridge
Since its inauguration in November 2019, the Kartarpur Corridor has played a significant role in enabling spiritual connection without the requirement of visas. Located just four kilometers from the India-Pakistan border, the corridor allows Indian Sikh devotees to visit one of their religion’s holiest sites – the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji – directly from India.
Even as larger jathas continue to travel under the 1974 protocol, the Kartarpur route remains a unique symbol of compassion and coexistence, resonating deeply with Sikh sentiment across the globe.
Looking Ahead
With the birth anniversary celebrations set to begin in early November, preparations are in full swing across major Sikh shrines in Pakistan. Authorities in Nankana Sahib and Lahore are expected to oversee large gatherings of pilgrims, cultural events, and special religious recitations in honor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings of truth, humility, and service to humanity.

यह घोषणा सिख समुदाय में हर्ष के साथ स्वागत की गई है और 1974 के भारत-पाकिस्तान द्विपक्षीय प्रोटोकॉल के निरंतर पालन को दर्शाती है, जिसके अंतर्गत धार्मिक तीर्थ यात्राओं को सुगम बनाया जाता है।

हर साल हजारों सिख श्रद्धालु पाकिस्तान में ननकाना साहिब, पंजा साहिब, डेरा साहिब और करतारपुर साहिब जैसे पवित्र गुरुद्वारों में मत्था टेकने जाते हैं। यह धार्मिक परंपरा दोनों देशों के बीच संबंधों में स्थिरता का प्रतीक बनी हुई है।
दिल्ली मंत्री मनजिंदर सिंह सिरसा ने स्वागत किया
दिल्ली के मंत्री मनजिंदर सिंह सिरसा ने इस कदम का स्वागत करते हुए भारत सरकार के प्रति आभार व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने एक वीडियो संदेश में कहा कि गुरु नानक देव जी की जयंती पर पाकिस्तान जाने वाले सिख जत्थों के लिए केंद्र सरकार द्वारा अनुमति देना प्रशंसनीय कदम है।
सिरसा ने कहा, “इस बार भी गुरु नानक देव जी के जन्म उत्सव पर भारत से जत्थे पाकिस्तान जाएंगे।” उन्होंने प्रतिनिधिक संगठनों जैसे शिरोमणि गुरुद्वारा प्रबंधक कमेटी (SGPC) और दिल्ली सिख गुरुद्वारा प्रबंधन समिति (DSGMC) से आग्रह किया कि वे यात्रा से संबंधित सभी औपचारिकताएं जल्द पूरी करें।
भारतीय नेतृत्व के प्रति आभार
सिरसा ने 2019 में खोले गए करतारपुर कॉरिडोर को याद करते हुए कहा, “मैं भारत के प्रधानमंत्री और गृह मंत्री का गहरा आभार व्यक्त करता हूं, जिन्होंने 2019 में गुरु नानक देव जी के प्रकाश पर्व के अवसर पर करतारपुर साहिब का द्वार खोला। इस बार भी उन्होंने वही श्रद्धा और भावना का परिचय देते हुए जत्थों को पाकिस्तान जाने की अनुमति दी है।”
उन्होंने कहा कि धर्म और श्रद्धा को राजनीति से ऊपर रखा जाना चाहिए, और यह निर्णय उसी भावना का प्रमाण है।
राजनयिक तनाव के बीच आस्था का प्रतीक
भारत-पाकिस्तान के बीच मौजूदा तनावपूर्ण संबंधों के बीच यह पहल आस्था और आपसी सम्मान का प्रतीक मानी जा रही है। पाकिस्तान उच्चायोग का यह कदम दोनों देशों की साझा सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक परंपराओं की निरंतरता को दर्शाता है।

सूत्रों के अनुसार, दोनों देशों की सरकारें सुरक्षा और यात्रा संबंधी व्यवस्थाओं पर समन्वय कर रही हैं ताकि तीर्थयात्रियों की यात्रा सुचारू और सुरक्षित रहे। ननकाना साहिब, हसन अब्दाल और लाहौर में स्थित प्रमुख गुरुद्वारों में विशेष कार्यक्रम और पूजा-अर्चना की तैयारियां जोरों पर हैं।
साझा विरासत का प्रतीक वार्षिक तीर्थ
हर वर्ष सिख श्रद्धालु “Prakash Purab”, “Baisakhi” और “Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji” जैसे प्रमुख धार्मिक अवसरों पर पाकिस्तान की यात्रा करते हैं। इन यात्राओं ने लंबे समय से यह सिद्ध किया है कि श्रद्धा सीमाओं को पार कर सकती है।
2025 का यह जत्था विशेष रूप से महत्व रखता है क्योंकि यह ऐसे दौर में आयोजित हो रहा है जब दोनों देशों में सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक आदान-प्रदान के माध्यम से आपसी संवाद को प्रोत्साहित किया जा रहा है।
करतारपुर कॉरिडोर: आध्यात्मिक सेतु
नवंबर 2019 में उद्घाटन के बाद से करतारपुर कॉरिडोर सिख श्रद्धालुओं के लिए आस्था का जीवंत मार्ग बन गया है। यह कॉरिडोर भारत-पाकिस्तान सीमा से मात्र 4 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है और भारतीय सिख श्रद्धालुओं को वीज़ा-मुक्त यात्रा की सुविधा देता है।
यद्यपि ‘जत्थे’ अभी भी 1974 के पारंपरिक प्रोटोकॉल के अंतर्गत यात्रा करते हैं, करतारपुर कॉरिडोर ने धार्मिक मेल-जोल और सहअस्तित्व का एक अनूठा उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया है।
आगे की तैयारियां
गुरु नानक देव जी के जन्म उत्सव को लेकर पाकिस्तान के ननकाना साहिब और लाहौर में भव्य तैयारियां चल रही हैं। हज़ारों श्रद्धालु भजन, कीर्तन, और विशेष धार्मिक कार्यक्रमों में हिस्सा लेंगे, जहाँ गुरु नानक देव जी के सत्य, विनम्रता और सेवा के संदेश को श्रद्धा से याद किया जाएगा।
यह यात्रा भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच धार्मिक और सांस्कृतिक जुड़ाव को और मजबूत करेगी, और दोनों देशों के नागरिकों के बीच भरोसे और श्रद्धा की डोर को और प्रगाढ़ बनाएगी।
