Ranbankura Signallers Conduct Communication Exercise in Bikaner: Strengthening the Nerve Centre of Battlefield Operations

“The voice of command travels on the strength of Signallers.” These words, deeply rooted in the traditions of military communication, found renewed relevance this week as the Ranbankura Signallers of the prestigious Ranbankura Division Bikaner executed a high-intensity Communication Exercise (CommEx) aimed at enhancing operational readiness and network resilience in combat-like conditions.
At the heart of modern warfare lies not just firepower or manoeuvre, but the ability to connect commanders to their troops, intelligence to decision-makers, and sensors to shooters in real-time. Recognising this centrality, the exercise focused on preparing signal units to maintain seamless communication and information flow, even in network-denied and hostile electromagnetic environments—a hallmark of future conflicts.
The Backbone of Battlefield Communication
The Ranbankura Signallers—renowned for their battlefield agility and technical expertise—undertook this exercise with the twin objectives of ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and providing value-added services to frontline formations. Leveraging the Army’s Network for Spectrum (NFS) backbone, alongside indigenous tactical communication systems, the exercise simulated real-world operational pressures where cyber disruption, jamming attempts, and satellite-denied conditions were imposed.
Signal detachments deployed mobile communication nodes across the desert terrain of Bikaner, rapidly establishing secure voice, data, and video links between forward troops and command headquarters. The drill tested their ability to deliver high-speed, low-latency communication services while simultaneously protecting against enemy intrusion and electronic surveillance.
Warfighters in the Digital Domain
Unlike traditional exercises that focus solely on manoeuvre warfare, the CommEx underscored the growing role of digital warriors in the Indian Army. Ranbankura Signallers worked under strict operational timelines to demonstrate interoperability between terrestrial and satellite-based systems, ensuring redundancy and reliability in mission-critical communications.
The Signallers further tested the extension of NFS into remote and austere locations, proving their ability to integrate diverse networks into a unified grid. By doing so, they reinforced the concept that in modern operations, every strike, manoeuvre, or tactical move depends on reliable communications architecture.
Value-Added Services and Combat Support
Going beyond just maintaining radio silence or passing voice traffic, the Ranbankura Warriors showcased their capability to deliver value-added services (VAS)—a key focus area for the Army’s Signal Corps modernization. These included:
- Secure Video Conferencing (VTC): Enabling battlefield commanders to issue real-time orders and receive updates.
- Situational Awareness Dashboards: Providing commanders with a live operational picture through integrated sensors and digital feeds.
- Data Security Modules: Ensuring communications remained encrypted and shielded from hostile interception.
- Emergency Backup Systems: Deploying mobile power and data relay units in case of cyber or physical disruption.
Such services elevated the CommEx from a routine drill to a strategic enabler of network-centric warfare, reflecting the Army’s push toward integrated digital combat capabilities.
Operating in Network-Denied Environments
One of the highlights of the exercise was the deliberate simulation of network-denied environments, a scenario increasingly relevant in the Indo-Pak and Sino-Indian operational theatres where electronic warfare and cyber-attacks are constant threats.
Through rapid deployment of tactical radio systems, improvisation of field antennas, and integration with portable satellite terminals, Ranbankura Signallers successfully restored battlefield communications within minutes of “enemy-induced disruption.” This proved not only their resilience under pressure but also their versatility to adapt to modern hybrid warfare challenges.
Building the Future Force
The exercise also aligned with the Army’s ongoing vision under Atmanirbhar Bharat, as indigenously developed communication systems, encryption software, and tactical radio sets were at the forefront of the drill. This reflects India’s steady transition toward self-reliance in the critical domain of military communications technology.
By showcasing their prowess in both planning and execution, the Ranbankura Signallers reaffirmed their position as the nerve centre of battlefield command and control. Their successful conduct of the exercise demonstrated that the Division is not only combat-ready in terms of firepower and manoeuvre but also digitally empowered for 21st-century informationised warfare.
Strategic Relevance
As the Indian Army continues to prepare for future wars characterised by multi-domain operations, the importance of a robust, resilient, and adaptive communications infrastructure cannot be overstated. The Ranbankura Signallers’ exercise is therefore not just a localised drill in Bikaner but a strategic message—that India’s frontline divisions are equipped, trained, and motivated to sustain operations in high-tech, contested battlefields.
By extending NFS, integrating tactical systems, and operating in denied conditions, the Ranbankura Warriors have once again proven why the dictum holds true: “The voice of command travels on the strength of Signallers.”

बीकानेर रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स का कम्युनिकेशन अभ्यास : रणभूमि में संचार शक्ति ही है कमांड की आवाज़

“कमांड की आवाज़ सिग्नलर्स की शक्ति पर ही निर्भर करती है।” यह ऐतिहासिक वाक्य एक बार फिर जीवंत हो उठा जब रणबांकुरा डिवीजन बीकानेर के रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स ने उच्च स्तरीय कम्युनिकेशन एक्सरसाइज (CommEx) का सफल आयोजन किया। इस अभ्यास का उद्देश्य था युद्ध जैसी परिस्थितियों में ऑपरेशनल रेडीनेस बढ़ाना और संचार नेटवर्क की मजबूती को परखना।
आधुनिक युद्ध में केवल हथियारों की मारक क्षमता ही नहीं बल्कि कमांडरों और सैनिकों, खुफिया और निर्णयकर्ताओं, सेंसर और शूटरों के बीच निर्बाध संचार ही जीत की कुंजी है। इसी महत्व को ध्यान में रखते हुए रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स ने इस अभ्यास को नेटवर्क डिनाइड और इलेक्ट्रॉनिक युद्ध के माहौल में तैयार किया।
रणभूमि के संचार का मेरुदंड
रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स अपनी तकनीकी दक्षता और फुर्तीले युद्धक रवैये के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। इस अभ्यास में उन्होंने न केवल निर्बाध कनेक्टिविटी बनाए रखने बल्कि फ्रंटलाइन यूनिट्स को वैल्यू-एडेड सर्विसेज उपलब्ध कराने की क्षमता को भी प्रदर्शित किया।
आर्मी के नेटवर्क फॉर स्पेक्ट्रम (NFS) और स्वदेशी टैक्टिकल कम्युनिकेशन सिस्टम्स का उपयोग करते हुए बीकानेर के रेगिस्तानी इलाके में मोबाइल कम्युनिकेशन नोड्स तैनात किए गए। इनकी मदद से अग्रिम मोर्चों और हेडक्वार्टर के बीच सुरक्षित वॉयस, डेटा और वीडियो लिंक स्थापित किए गए। साथ ही, दुश्मन की साइबर सेंधमारी और इलेक्ट्रॉनिक निगरानी से बचाने की क्षमता भी दिखाई गई।
डिजिटल युद्ध के योद्धा
यह अभ्यास पारंपरिक युद्धाभ्यास से अलग था क्योंकि इसमें रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स को डिजिटल वॉरफेयर वॉरियर्स के रूप में परखा गया। उन्होंने समयबद्ध ढंग से जमीनी और उपग्रह-आधारित सिस्टमों के बीच इंटरऑपरेबिलिटी दिखाई ताकि नेटवर्क में किसी भी तरह की बाधा न आए।
इसके अतिरिक्त, सिग्नलर्स ने यह भी साबित किया कि वे दुर्गम और सुदूर इलाकों तक NFS का विस्तार कर सकते हैं, जिससे विविध नेटवर्क को एकीकृत ग्रिड में जोड़ा जा सके। इसने यह संदेश स्पष्ट कर दिया कि आधुनिक युद्ध में हर स्ट्राइक, मूवमेंट और ऑपरेशन की सफलता संचार ढांचे की मजबूती पर निर्भर करती है।
वैल्यू-एडेड सर्विसेज और कॉम्बैट सपोर्ट
रणबांकुरा वॉरियर्स ने केवल संचार चैनल को सक्रिय रखने तक ही खुद को सीमित नहीं रखा बल्कि उन्होंने वैल्यू-एडेड सर्विसेज (VAS) भी प्रदान कीं। इनमें शामिल थे:
- सिक्योर वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग (VTC): जिससे कमांडर रियल-टाइम आदेश दे सकें।
- सिचुएशनल अवेयरनेस डैशबोर्ड्स: जिससे एकीकृत सेंसर और डिजिटल फीड के जरिए युद्धक्षेत्र की वास्तविक स्थिति दिखाई जा सके।
- डेटा सिक्योरिटी मॉड्यूल्स: संचार को एन्क्रिप्शन से सुरक्षित कर शत्रु की जासूसी से बचाना।
- इमरजेंसी बैकअप सिस्टम्स: नेटवर्क के बाधित होने पर तुरंत वैकल्पिक शक्ति और डेटा रिले यूनिट्स तैनात करना।
इन सेवाओं ने इस अभ्यास को साधारण नहीं बल्कि नेटवर्क-सेंट्रिक वॉरफेयर का रणनीतिक स्तंभ बना दिया।
नेटवर्क डिनाइड वातावरण में संचालन
इस अभ्यास का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा था नेटवर्क डिनाइड एनवायरनमेंट की स्थिति का सिमुलेशन। भारत की पश्चिमी और उत्तरी सीमाओं पर पाकिस्तान और चीन की ओर से इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वारफेयर और साइबर हमलों की संभावना को ध्यान में रखते हुए इस चुनौती को शामिल किया गया।
रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स ने टैक्टिकल रेडियो सिस्टम्स, पोर्टेबल सैटेलाइट टर्मिनल्स और फील्ड एंटेना का प्रयोग करके मिनटों में संचार बहाल कर दिया। इसने साबित कर दिया कि वे न केवल दबाव में भी लचीले और सक्षम हैं बल्कि हाइब्रिड वारफेयर की चुनौतियों का सामना करने में भी पारंगत हैं।
आत्मनिर्भर भारत के अनुरूप
इस अभ्यास की एक और विशेषता थी कि इसमें स्वदेशी संचार प्रणालियों, एन्क्रिप्शन सॉफ़्टवेयर और टैक्टिकल रेडियो सेट्स का इस्तेमाल किया गया। यह सेना के आत्मनिर्भर भारत विज़न को दर्शाता है जिसमें संचार प्रौद्योगिकी में आत्मनिर्भरता हासिल करने की दिशा में ठोस कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं।
रणनीतिक संदेश
रणबांकुरा सिग्नलर्स का यह अभ्यास केवल बीकानेर में किया गया एक स्थानीय सैन्य ड्रिल नहीं है, बल्कि एक रणनीतिक संदेश है कि भारत की अग्रिम डिवीज़नें उच्च-तकनीकी और मल्टी-डोमेन युद्ध के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार हैं।
उन्होंने एक बार फिर यह साबित किया कि –
“कमांड की आवाज़ सिग्नलर्स की शक्ति पर ही निर्भर करती है।”
