Bikaner. The fourth day of the Bikaner Theatre Festival witnessed a mesmerizing display of theatrical brilliance as veteran actors Rajendra Gupta and Himani Shivpuri captivated the audience with their outstanding performance in the play Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai.
The festival also featured theatrical performances by artists from Bikaner, Shimla, and Chandigarh, with plays like Dulari Bai, VishTi Lani, and Maharathi staged earlier in the day. However, the highlight of the evening was the much-anticipated performance by Rajendra Gupta and Himani Shivpuri, which left the audience deeply moved and emotionally connected to the art of theatre.
A Powerful Theatrical Experience
The play Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai revolves around the emotional journey of individuals who, after crossing the age of 50, find themselves battling loneliness and seeking companionship. It beautifully portrays the struggles faced by elderly individuals, their emotional needs, and their expectations from society.
In the play, Rajendra Gupta plays a man coping with loneliness, while Himani Shivpuri portrays a woman who comes to a hospital as a patient but is actually fighting mental distress. As the story unfolds, a deep emotional bond develops between them, which gradually grows stronger, ultimately bringing them to a point where their lives become inseparable.

During an exclusive interview with Doordarshan, Himani Shivpuri emphasized the significance of theatre. She said,
“Acting in theatre is far more challenging than acting in films. Theatre requires immense dedication and effort, as there are no retakes. That is why actors who emerge from theatre are the real performers.”
She also acknowledged that public interest in theatre has somewhat declined over the years but expressed her admiration for Bikaner’s enthusiastic audience, who showed immense love for theatre.
