Sri Lankan Military Delegation Visits NDA Khadakwasla & MILIT Pune — Strengthening Indo-Lanka Defence Education & Training Bonds

In a testament to growing regional military cooperation and strategic convergence, a 24-member delegation from the Army School of Logistics, Sri Lanka, led by Brigadier R T Lokuthotahewa, USP, PSC, visited two of India’s premier military education institutions — the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla and the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune.
The multi-day visit reflects a shared commitment between India and Sri Lanka to foster military-to-military exchanges, enhance capacity building in defence logistics, and promote regional defence education partnerships under India’s Act East and Neighbourhood First policy frameworks.
Visit to National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla: Saluting the Cradle of Military Leadership
At the National Defence Academy (NDA), India’s foundational tri-services military training institution, the Sri Lankan officers were given a comprehensive overview of the curriculum, training ecosystem, inter-service integration modules, and cadet development methodologies.
Brigadier Lokuthotahewa and his delegation interacted with senior faculty members and witnessed various training demonstrations including:
- Integrated leadership modules followed by Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force cadets.
- Physical endurance and military drill sessions reflecting NDA’s emphasis on discipline and joint ethos.
- Briefings on NDA’s role in shaping Indian and foreign military leaders and its historical contributions to regional defence leadership.
The visit underscored the shared values of camaraderie, professionalism, and discipline that define both Indian and Sri Lankan armed forces. The delegation also participated in ceremonial exchanges, reflecting a strong tradition of mutual respect between the two institutions.
Engagement with Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune: Knowledge Exchange on Modern Warfare Training
In the second leg of their visit, the delegation was hosted by the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune — India’s premier Tri-Services technical education institute. The Sri Lankan officers were briefed on MILIT’s advanced instructional infrastructure, modern simulation-based teaching tools, and cutting-edge curriculum in cyberwarfare, aerospace systems, advanced electronics, and defence logistics.
Key areas of interaction included:
- Defence Logistics Management Systems, strategic material planning, and supply chain dynamics in joint-service operations.
- Simulation-based combat scenario training and instructional methodology for officers at battalion and brigade levels.
- MILIT’s joint pedagogy initiatives with DRDO, ISRO, and indigenous defence industry partners under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Brigadier Lokuthotahewa appreciated the technical foresight and innovation ecosystem that MILIT offers, and discussed potential future areas of cooperation in faculty exchange, curriculum design, and logistics scenario planning.
Reinforcing Bilateral Military Ties: From Knowledge Exchange to Strategic Convergence
The visit marks a significant milestone in India–Sri Lanka defence cooperation, particularly in the arena of military education and training. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment towards:
- Expanding capacity building programs for Sri Lankan officers in Indian defence institutions.
- Enhancing technical exchanges and doctrinal dialogues in logistics and warfighting support.
- Strengthening strategic bonds through continued high-level military engagements and joint courses.
India and Sri Lanka have traditionally shared strong defence cooperation frameworks ranging from counter-terrorism coordination to humanitarian assistance in disaster relief (HADR), with education and logistics cooperation forming a vital pillar.
The visit also echoes India’s strategic goal of promoting a secure and interconnected Indian Ocean Region (IOR) through sustained military cooperation with friendly maritime neighbours.

भारत और श्रीलंका के बीच बढ़ते सैन्य सहयोग और क्षेत्रीय रणनीतिक साझेदारी के तहत, श्रीलंका के आर्मी स्कूल ऑफ लॉजिस्टिक्स से आए 24 सदस्यीय सैन्य प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने भारत के दो प्रमुख रक्षा शैक्षणिक संस्थानों — नेशनल डिफेंस एकेडमी (NDA) खड़कवासला और मिलिट्री इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी (MILIT) पुणे का दौरा किया।
इस प्रतिनिधिमंडल का नेतृत्व ब्रिगेडियर आर टी लोथुकोथहेवा, USP, PSC कर रहे थे। यह यात्रा दोनों देशों के बीच रक्षा शिक्षा, लॉजिस्टिक्स प्रशिक्षण और क्षमता निर्माण को बढ़ावा देने के साझा संकल्प को दर्शाती है।
एनडीए खड़कवासला — सैन्य नेतृत्व की नर्सरी में एक विशेष संवाद
भारत के प्रतिष्ठित त्रि-सेवा प्रशिक्षण संस्थान नेशनल डिफेंस एकेडमी (NDA) में श्रीलंकाई अधिकारियों ने:
- कैडेट ट्रेनिंग प्रक्रियाओं, पाठ्यक्रम और सेवा एकीकरण कार्यक्रमों की जानकारी ली।
- एनडीए के फिजिकल ड्रिल, लीडरशिप सत्र और कैडेटों की गतिविधियों का अवलोकन किया।
- कॉलेज के वरिष्ठ स्टाफ और प्रशिक्षकों से गहन संवाद किया।
यह दौरा भारत-श्रीलंका के बीच पारंपरिक सैन्य मित्रता, अनुशासन और पेशेवर मूल्यों को और मजबूत करता है। दोनों देशों के अधिकारियों ने सांस्कृतिक आदान-प्रदान और सम्मान समारोह में भाग लिया।
मिलिट पुणे — तकनीकी सैन्य शिक्षा में नवाचार और सहयोग
दूसरे चरण में प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने मिलिट पुणे का दौरा किया, जहां उन्हें भारत की आधुनिक युद्ध प्रशिक्षण तकनीकों और लॉजिस्टिक्स शिक्षा प्रणाली से अवगत कराया गया।
मुख्य गतिविधियों में शामिल थे:
- डिफेंस लॉजिस्टिक्स प्रबंधन प्रणाली, सामग्री योजना और ऑपरेशनल सपोर्ट रणनीति की जानकारी।
- AI आधारित वॉरगेमिंग, सिमुलेशन मॉडल और उच्च तकनीकी विषयों जैसे साइबर वारफेयर, एयरोस्पेस, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आदि पर प्रस्तुतियां।
- DRDO, ISRO और निजी रक्षा कंपनियों के साथ मिलिट के संयुक्त शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रम।
ब्रिगेडियर लोथुकोथहेवा ने मिलिट की तकनीकी दक्षता और नवाचार को सराहा और भविष्य में संयुक्त पाठ्यक्रम, फैकल्टी एक्सचेंज और लॉजिस्टिक्स रणनीति निर्माण जैसे क्षेत्रों में सहयोग की इच्छा जताई।
भारत-श्रीलंका रक्षा संबंधों को नई ऊर्जा
यह दौरा भारत-श्रीलंका रक्षा संबंधों में एक और मजबूत कड़ी जोड़ता है। दोनों देशों ने सहमति व्यक्त की कि:
- श्रीलंकाई अधिकारियों के लिए भारत में रक्षा शिक्षा कार्यक्रमों को और बढ़ाया जाएगा।
- लॉजिस्टिक्स और प्रशिक्षण में तकनीकी सहयोग और विचारों का आदान-प्रदान बढ़ेगा।
- क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा और रणनीतिक स्थिरता हेतु आपसी विश्वास को मजबूत किया जाएगा।
यह दौरा भारतीय महासागर क्षेत्र (IOR) में स्थायी सुरक्षा, शिक्षा और सहयोग के प्रति भारत के दृष्टिकोण को दर्शाता है।
