Pakistani Father-Son Duo Nabbed Near Barmer Border; Security Agencies Begin Joint Interrogation

Heightened alertness and swift action by the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled what could have been a serious cross-border infiltration attempt along the India–Pakistan international border in Rajasthan’s Barmer district on Wednesday evening. Two Pakistani nationals — a father and his young son — were apprehended near the zero line in the Sedwa sector, an area known for its harsh desert terrain and proximity to sensitive border installations.
The incident, though initially appearing minor, has triggered high-level security attention as the border in Barmer has increasingly become a zone of concern for Indian intelligence agencies, particularly in light of recent infiltration attempts, smuggling incidents, and movements linked to Pakistan’s Sindh and Tharparkar regions.
BSF Patrol Spots Suspicious Movement Near Zero Point
According to official sources, the incident occurred near Janpalia village under the Sedwa police station jurisdiction, situated close to the zero point — the line demarcating the India-Pakistan border in Barmer district. A BSF patrol team, which was conducting routine surveillance in the area, noticed suspicious movement on the desert terrain just before dusk.
Upon closer observation, the troops noticed two individuals attempting to cross the sandy expanse from the Pakistani side towards Indian territory. Acting promptly, the BSF personnel surrounded the area and apprehended both individuals before they could move deeper inside.
The two were identified as Kanji, son of Raimal, a resident of Hemari village in Baliyari tehsil, District Tharparkar, Pakistan, and his approximately seven-year-old son Chaman. Both were found unarmed but without valid travel documents or any plausible explanation for their presence at the international border.
Handed Over to Sedwa Police for Further Investigation
Following preliminary questioning at the border outpost, the duo was handed over to the Sedwa Police for further legal and security procedures. Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Singh Meena, reached the Sedwa police station and reviewed the situation personally.
SP Meena confirmed the detention and stated:
“Two Pakistani nationals — a father and his son — have been apprehended by BSF personnel near the zero point of Janpalia area under Sedwa police station. Both have been handed over to the local police for questioning. Given the sensitivity of the border and the ongoing intelligence alerts, multiple security and intelligence agencies will jointly interrogate them.”
He further mentioned that the BSF’s prompt response prevented any potential infiltration or smuggling activity. “We are treating this matter seriously. The questioning will involve agencies like Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Intelligence (MI), and other central and state-level security units,” he added.
A Border of Constant Vigilance
The Sedwa sector in Barmer, located along the India–Pakistan international border, is a region that demands round-the-clock vigilance due to its open desert geography and limited physical barriers in several stretches. The porous terrain — with sand dunes, seasonal water channels, and sparse habitation — makes it a challenging zone for both border guarding and monitoring electronic surveillance grids.
In recent years, BSF personnel have intercepted several individuals and groups attempting to cross the international boundary in this region, often under the pretext of being lost or searching for cattle. However, security experts highlight that such crossings sometimes serve as cover for espionage, reconnaissance, or smuggling of narcotics, arms, and fake currency.
A senior intelligence officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told T.I.N. Network,
“Tharparkar in Pakistan has increasingly become a hub of low-profile infiltration attempts. Many crossers claim to have lost their way, but the pattern and frequency of such incidents suggest deeper linkages. Our focus is to identify whether these individuals have any connection to local handlers or were sent to test our response systems.”
Possible Scenarios Under Scrutiny
Security agencies are now examining several angles behind the duo’s entry into Indian territory. Preliminary assessments indicate three possible scenarios:
- Inadvertent Crossing: The individuals may have strayed across the border unknowingly, though such explanations are becoming increasingly rare due to heightened security and visible fencing.
- Reconnaissance Mission: There is a possibility that the adult detainee was sent to survey vulnerable routes or gauge BSF movement patterns along the desert sector.
- Smuggling or Intelligence Link: Investigators are also probing whether the duo was being used as a low-risk decoy in a larger cross-border operation involving contraband, communication relays, or information exchange.
Investigators have confirmed that the father-son duo carried no weapons but did possess some local items — including food, water bottles, and small personal belongings — which have been seized for forensic examination.
Joint Interrogation by Multiple Agencies
In view of the high sensitivity of the border, the interrogation process is being coordinated among several agencies. Apart from BSF and Rajasthan Police, units from Military Intelligence, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and Intelligence Bureau (IB) are likely to join the questioning.
The agencies will focus on mapping their movement from Pakistan’s Tharparkar district, tracking potential contacts across the border, and verifying if any cross-border communications or transmissions were made prior to their capture.
Sources from the Barmer district administration revealed that both detainees have been kept under tight security. The child, meanwhile, is being provided with basic facilities and food under humanitarian considerations, even as investigators proceed with caution.
Border Security Under Tight Watch
The Barmer border has been witnessing increased vigilance since the escalation of security alerts post-Operation Sindoor and heightened tensions in western Rajasthan’s border sectors. The BSF, supported by advanced surveillance drones and night-vision patrols, continues to maintain a 24×7 watch across the 332-kilometer-long international boundary in the district.
Senior BSF officers maintain that despite desert challenges, the force’s surveillance capability has improved significantly with the integration of smart sensors, thermal imaging systems, and high-mobility patrol vehicles. The apprehension of two Pakistani nationals without incident underscores the effectiveness of this layered security grid.
“The BSF has zero tolerance for border intrusions. Even a single step beyond the zero line is monitored and acted upon,” a senior officer from BSF’s 83rd Battalion said.
Geopolitical and Security Context
Barmer shares its border with Pakistan’s Sindh province, particularly the Tharparkar region, which has historically been a hotspot for infiltration due to its cultural and linguistic similarities with Rajasthan’s border villages. However, intelligence agencies have noted increasing cross-border interest in this area after the recent spate of terror activities in southern Pakistan’s provinces and the growing Chinese footprint in CPEC-linked zones nearby.
While no terror angle has been established in this case yet, Indian agencies remain cautious. The entry of even unarmed Pakistani nationals near sensitive installations or in desert zones is taken seriously, given past precedents where innocuous infiltrations turned out to be reconnaissance missions.
A Reminder of the Constant Border Vigil
The Barmer apprehension serves as a stark reminder that India’s western frontier remains a zone of constant challenge — a place where vigilance and human intelligence often decide national security outcomes.
The BSF’s rapid response, supported by the Sedwa police’s coordination and multi-agency follow-up, exemplifies India’s evolving border management model: integrated, proactive, and intelligence-led.
As the interrogation continues, investigators will seek to determine whether the detained Pakistani nationals were merely lost travellers — or the tip of a deeper network probing India’s desert defences.
For now, the security establishment in Rajasthan remains on alert, reaffirming that India’s borders may be vast and desolate — but never unguarded.

बाड़मेर बॉर्डर पर सतर्कता से बड़ी कार्रवाई — बीएसएफ ने पकड़ा पाकिस्तानी पिता-पुत्र, खुफिया एजेंसियों ने शुरू की गहन पूछताछ
बाड़मेर (राजस्थान)। भारत-पाकिस्तान अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा पर बुधवार शाम एक बार फिर सीमा सुरक्षा बल (बीएसएफ) के जवानों ने अपनी सतर्कता और चौकसी का परिचय देते हुए दो पाकिस्तानी नागरिकों को जीरो पॉइंट के पास पकड़ लिया। बताया जा रहा है कि पकड़े गए व्यक्तियों में एक वयस्क पुरुष और उसका लगभग सात वर्षीय पुत्र शामिल है। दोनों को प्रारंभिक पूछताछ के बाद सेड़वा थाना पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया गया, जहां अब उनसे भारतीय खुफिया और सुरक्षा एजेंसियां संयुक्त रूप से पूछताछ कर रही हैं।
घटना की पृष्ठभूमि — संदिग्ध हरकत पर पेट्रोलिंग टीम ने किया घेराव
पुलिस सूत्रों के अनुसार, यह पूरी घटना सेड़वा थाना क्षेत्र के जानपालिया गांव के पास जीरो पॉइंट पर घटित हुई। बुधवार शाम को बीएसएफ की पेट्रोलिंग टीम ने सीमा पर संदिग्ध गतिविधि देखी। संदेह होने पर जवानों ने तत्काल घेराबंदी की और तलाशी अभियान चलाया। इस दौरान उन्होंने दो व्यक्तियों को पकड़ लिया जो सीमा पार करने की कोशिश में थे। पकड़े गए व्यक्तियों की पहचान कानजी पुत्र रायमल, निवासी हेमारी, बलिहारी, जिला थारपारकर, पाकिस्तान तथा उसके नाबालिग पुत्र चमन (आयु लगभग 7 वर्ष) के रूप में की गई है।
बीएसएफ ने सौंपी स्थानीय पुलिस को जिम्मेदारी
बीएसएफ द्वारा प्रारंभिक पूछताछ के बाद दोनों को औपचारिक प्रक्रिया के तहत सेड़वा पुलिस के सुपुर्द कर दिया गया। सेड़वा थाने के अधिकारियों ने दोनों को पूछताछ के लिए हिरासत में लिया है। एसपी नरेंद्र सिंह मीना ने बताया कि घटना की संवेदनशीलता को देखते हुए खुफिया एजेंसियां, सैन्य खुफिया (MI) इकाई, और अन्य राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा एजेंसियां भी जांच प्रक्रिया में शामिल हो चुकी हैं।
संवेदनशीलता बढ़ी — बार-बार सीमा पर पकड़े जा रहे पाक नागरिक
बाड़मेर का सीमा क्षेत्र भारत-पाकिस्तान सीमा के अत्यंत संवेदनशील हिस्सों में से एक है, जहां हाल के महीनों में बार-बार पाक नागरिकों के पकड़े जाने की घटनाएं सामने आ चुकी हैं। खुफिया सूत्रों के अनुसार, कभी-कभी पाकिस्तानी नागरिकों द्वारा जानबूझकर सीमा का उल्लंघन कर जानकारी जुटाने या भारतीय क्षेत्र की भौगोलिक स्थिति का अध्ययन करने की कोशिश की जाती है। हालांकि, कई बार ग्रामीण सीमांत इलाकों में पशुपालन या पानी की तलाश में अनजाने में भी नागरिक सीमा पार कर बैठते हैं।
एजेंसियों की नजर — कई कोणों से की जा रही जांच
सुरक्षा एजेंसियां अब यह पता लगाने में जुटी हैं कि पकड़े गए पिता-पुत्र का भारत में आने का मकसद क्या था। क्या वे गलती से सीमा पार कर गए या इसके पीछे कोई गहरी साजिश छिपी है? बीएसएफ, इंटेलिजेंस ब्यूरो (IB), रिसर्च एंड एनालिसिस विंग (RAW), मिलिट्री इंटेलिजेंस (MI) और लोकल पुलिस सभी एजेंसियां अलग-अलग एंगल से पूछताछ कर रही हैं।
पुलिस का कहना है कि प्रारंभिक जांच में दोनों के पास से कोई हथियार, दस्तावेज या इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरण बरामद नहीं हुआ है, लेकिन फिर भी एजेंसियां जांच में कोई ढिलाई नहीं बरत रहीं।
बाड़मेर सेक्टर की रणनीतिक अहमियत
बाड़मेर सेक्टर राजस्थान के उन सीमावर्ती जिलों में शामिल है, जो पाकिस्तान के सिंध प्रांत से सटे हुए हैं। यहां की भौगोलिक परिस्थितियां — रेतीले टीलों, निर्जन इलाकों और सीमित निगरानी मार्गों — के कारण तस्करी, अवैध प्रवेश और जासूसी गतिविधियों की संभावनाएं हमेशा बनी रहती हैं। इसी कारण भारतीय सेना और बीएसएफ ने इस क्षेत्र में इलेक्ट्रॉनिक सर्विलांस, ड्रोन निगरानी और थर्मल इमेजिंग उपकरणों की तैनाती बढ़ा दी है।
कड़ी निगरानी और सतर्कता जारी
एसपी नरेंद्र सिंह मीना ने कहा कि बीएसएफ के जवान हर परिस्थिति में चौकन्ने हैं और किसी भी संदिग्ध गतिविधि पर तुरंत कार्रवाई की जाती है। उन्होंने बताया कि पकड़े गए पाक नागरिकों के सभी संभावित संपर्कों और पिछले रिकॉर्ड की भी जांच की जा रही है।
भारत की सीमाएं अब पहले से ज्यादा सुरक्षित
यह घटना भारतीय सुरक्षा बलों की सतर्कता और सीमा प्रबंधन की सटीकता को दर्शाती है। बाड़मेर जैसे संवेदनशील सेक्टर में बीएसएफ की समय रहते कार्रवाई ने एक बार फिर यह साबित कर दिया है कि भारत की सीमाएं सुरक्षित हाथों में हैं। फिलहाल पूछताछ के नतीजे आने तक एजेंसियां दोनों को हिरासत में रखकर आगे की जानकारी जुटा रही हैं।
