65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament to Kick Off on August 18 with 107 Teams

New Delhi, August 12, 2026: India’s prestigious grassroots football tournament, the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, is all set to enter its 65th edition, bringing together young football talent from across the country and an international participant from Sri Lanka. The tournament will officially kick off on 18 August 2026 and continue until 24 September 2026, with matches being conducted across New Delhi NCR and Bengaluru.
The 65th edition will feature 107 teams competing for top honours in three age categories—Junior Girls Under-17, Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 and Junior Boys Under-17. More than 215 football matches are scheduled to be played during the tournament, providing a major competitive platform for young players aspiring to make their mark at higher levels of the sport.
The official announcement for the tournament was made in New Delhi on Wednesday in the presence of Air Marshal S. Sivakumar, VSM, Air Officer-in-Charge Administration and Vice Chairman of the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society (SMSES), who attended the event as the Chief Guest. Renowned Indian footballer Ashalata Devi Loitongbam was present as the Guest of Honour, adding further significance to the launch of the 65th edition.
The Subroto Cup has a long and distinguished history in Indian football. First organised in 1960, the tournament was conceived with the vision of Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, one of the pioneers of Indian military aviation and the first Indian Chief of the Air Staff. His vision was to use football as a means of developing sporting talent at the grassroots level and providing young players with a structured competitive platform.
Over the decades, the Subroto Cup has evolved into one of India’s most recognised school-level international football tournaments. It has provided generations of young footballers an opportunity to compete against strong teams, experience organised tournament football and attract attention from coaches, scouts and sporting institutions.
The 65th edition continues that legacy with an expanded national footprint and a strong emphasis on youth development, fair play and sporting excellence.
The tournament will begin with the Junior Girls Under-17 category, which is scheduled to be played in New Delhi NCR from 18 August to 27 August 2026. The opening ceremony will take place on 18 August, marking the formal commencement of the 65th edition.
The second phase will shift to Bengaluru, where the Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 competition will be held from 1 September to 9 September 2026. The final phase will return to New Delhi NCR with the Junior Boys Under-17 competition from 15 September to 24 September 2026.
The final of the Junior Girls Under-17 competition is scheduled for 27 August, while the Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 final will be held on 9 September. The tournament will conclude on 24 September with the Junior Boys Under-17 final and closing ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Air Marshal S. Sivakumar VSM highlighted the commitment of the Indian Air Force and SMSES towards continuously expanding and improving the tournament. He said the objective was to make the Subroto Cup “bigger and better every year” while providing young athletes with a platform that can help them take the next step in their sporting careers.
He congratulated all the teams that qualified for the tournament and wished the participating players success. He also encouraged the young footballers to compete in the true spirit of sportsmanship, highlighting that discipline, teamwork and respect for opponents are as important as winning on the football field.
The 65th edition will see participation from teams representing different Indian States, Union Territories and educational bodies, along with international representation from Sri Lanka. This gives the tournament an important inter-regional and international character while enabling young Indian players to gain exposure to different styles of football.
The tournament’s three-category structure is also designed to create opportunities for players at different stages of their development. The Under-15 competition provides a platform for younger players to experience high-level competitive football, while the Under-17 categories give older school-level players an opportunity to demonstrate their skills before progressing towards senior and professional football.
One of the important features of the 2026 edition will be the introduction of an age-determination test for the Sub-Junior Boys category in Bengaluru. The measure is aimed at ensuring fair competition and maintaining the integrity of the age-group tournament.
Age verification is particularly important in youth football because physical maturity can vary significantly among players. Ensuring that participants compete within the prescribed age category helps maintain a level playing field and protects the credibility of the competition.
The tournament will be played at multiple football venues across New Delhi NCR and Bengaluru.
In New Delhi NCR, the venues include Ambedkar Stadium, Tejas Football Ground, Subroto Park Football Ground, Pinto Park Football Ground and Rajokri Football Ground. Bengaluru will host matches at Air Force School, Jalahalli; Air Force School, Yelahanka; and Subroto Football Ground, Jalahalli.
The spread of venues will allow the tournament to accommodate the large number of participating teams and matches while giving young footballers the opportunity to play in established sporting facilities.
The 2025 edition, which was the 64th edition of the tournament, saw Farook Higher Secondary School from Kerala emerge as champions in the Junior Boys category. Betkuchi High School, Guwahati, Assam, won the Junior Girls title, while Minerva Public School, representing CISCE, won the Sub-Junior Boys category.
The defending champions will enter the 65th edition with the additional pressure of protecting their titles, while the participating teams will be looking to challenge the established names and create their own place in the tournament’s long history.
For Indian football, tournaments such as the Subroto Cup play an important role in developing the grassroots ecosystem. While professional leagues and national-level competitions receive significant attention, school football remains an important pathway through which young players can receive structured training, competitive exposure and opportunities to be identified by coaches.
The Subroto Cup’s long history has allowed it to become more than simply a school football tournament. It represents a continuing effort to connect education, sport, discipline and youth development. The involvement of the Indian Air Force also gives the tournament a distinctive institutional character, linking sporting excellence with values such as discipline, teamwork, leadership and determination.

The legacy of Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee continues to remain at the heart of the competition. His vision of promoting football among young Indians has developed into a tournament that has survived for more than six decades and continues to attract participation from across the country.
The 65th edition also comes at a time when Indian football is seeking to strengthen its grassroots development structures and create more pathways for young players to progress from school-level competitions to professional and national-level football.
For the participating players, the tournament will offer much more than the opportunity to win a trophy. It will provide exposure to competitive football, opportunities to interact with players from different regions, experience of playing under tournament conditions and the chance to demonstrate their potential before coaches and football observers.
The presence of Ashalata Devi Loitongbam as Guest of Honour is also significant for the Junior Girls category. As one of India’s prominent footballers, her participation can provide additional inspiration to young female footballers taking part in the competition.
Women’s football in India has been steadily expanding, and competitions at the school and grassroots levels are essential for building a deeper talent pool. The Junior Girls Under-17 competition at the Subroto Cup therefore represents an important opportunity to encourage participation and competitive development among young female players.

नई दिल्ली, 12 अगस्त 2026: भारत के प्रतिष्ठित स्कूल स्तर के अंतरराष्ट्रीय फुटबॉल टूर्नामेंट सुब्रतो कप इंटरनेशनल फुटबॉल टूर्नामेंट का 65वां संस्करण 18 अगस्त 2026 से शुरू होने जा रहा है। छह दशक से अधिक समय से देश में युवा फुटबॉल प्रतिभाओं को मंच प्रदान कर रहा यह प्रतिष्ठित टूर्नामेंट इस बार 107 टीमों को एक साथ लेकर मैदान में उतरेगा। टूर्नामेंट का आयोजन नई दिल्ली-NCR और बेंगलुरु में किया जाएगा और इसका समापन 24 सितंबर 2026 को होगा।
65वें सुब्रतो कप में तीन प्रमुख आयु वर्गों में मुकाबले आयोजित किए जाएंगे। इनमें Junior Girls Under-17, Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 और Junior Boys Under-17 श्रेणियां शामिल हैं। तीनों वर्गों में कुल मिलाकर 215 से अधिक फुटबॉल मैच खेले जाएंगे, जिससे देशभर के स्कूली खिलाड़ियों को बड़े स्तर पर प्रतिस्पर्धी अनुभव हासिल करने का अवसर मिलेगा।
65वें संस्करण की आधिकारिक घोषणा बुधवार को नई दिल्ली में आयोजित कार्यक्रम के दौरान की गई। इस अवसर पर Air Marshal S. Sivakumar VSM, Air Officer-in-Charge Administration और Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society यानी SMSES के Vice Chairman, मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में मौजूद रहे। वहीं भारतीय महिला फुटबॉल की चर्चित खिलाड़ी Ashalata Devi Loitongbam Guest of Honour के रूप में कार्यक्रम में शामिल हुईं।
सुब्रतो कप की शुरुआत वर्ष 1960 में हुई थी। इस टूर्नामेंट की कल्पना भारतीय वायुसेना के पहले भारतीय Chief of the Air Staff और देश के प्रमुख सैन्य विमानन अधिकारियों में शामिल Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee ने की थी। उनका उद्देश्य देशभर में grassroots level पर फुटबॉल को बढ़ावा देना और स्कूली स्तर पर युवा खिलाड़ियों को एक मजबूत प्रतिस्पर्धी मंच उपलब्ध कराना था।
पिछले छह दशकों से अधिक समय में सुब्रतो कप ने भारतीय फुटबॉल में अपनी एक अलग पहचान बनाई है। देश के अलग-अलग राज्यों और शैक्षणिक संस्थानों से आने वाले युवा खिलाड़ियों को इस टूर्नामेंट के माध्यम से उच्च स्तर की प्रतिस्पर्धा का अनुभव मिलता है। कई प्रतिभाशाली खिलाड़ियों के लिए स्कूल फुटबॉल से आगे बढ़ने और बड़े स्तर पर अपनी पहचान बनाने की राह भी ऐसे ही टूर्नामेंटों से तैयार होती है।
65वां सुब्रतो कप भी इसी परंपरा को आगे बढ़ाने जा रहा है। इस बार टूर्नामेंट में भारत के विभिन्न राज्यों, केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों और educational bodies का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाली टीमें हिस्सा लेंगी। इसके अलावा श्रीलंका की अंतरराष्ट्रीय टीम भी प्रतियोगिता में भाग लेगी, जिससे इस संस्करण को एक महत्वपूर्ण अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्वरूप मिलेगा।
टूर्नामेंट का पहला चरण 18 अगस्त 2026 से नई दिल्ली-NCR में शुरू होगा। शुरुआत Junior Girls Under-17 वर्ग से होगी। इस श्रेणी के मुकाबले 18 अगस्त से 27 अगस्त तक आयोजित किए जाएंगे। 18 अगस्त को ही टूर्नामेंट की Opening Ceremony होगी, जिसके साथ 65वें सुब्रतो कप की औपचारिक शुरुआत होगी।
इसके बाद टूर्नामेंट का दूसरा चरण बेंगलुरु में आयोजित होगा। Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 वर्ग के मुकाबले 1 सितंबर से 9 सितंबर 2026 तक खेले जाएंगे। इसके बाद तीसरे और अंतिम चरण में Junior Boys Under-17 वर्ग की प्रतियोगिता 15 सितंबर से 24 सितंबर तक नई दिल्ली-NCR में आयोजित की जाएगी।
Junior Girls Under-17 का फाइनल 27 अगस्त को खेला जाएगा, जबकि Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 का फाइनल 9 सितंबर को होगा। पूरे टूर्नामेंट का सबसे बड़ा समापन समारोह 24 सितंबर को होगा, जब Junior Boys Under-17 का फाइनल और Closing Ceremony आयोजित की जाएगी।
कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए Air Marshal S. Sivakumar VSM ने कहा कि भारतीय वायुसेना और SMSES सुब्रतो कप को हर वर्ष और बड़ा तथा बेहतर बनाने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि टूर्नामेंट का उद्देश्य युवा खिलाड़ियों को ऐसा मंच उपलब्ध कराना है, जहां वे अपनी प्रतिभा का प्रदर्शन करने के साथ अपने खेल करियर में अगले स्तर की ओर बढ़ सकें।
उन्होंने सभी qualifying teams को बधाई दी और खिलाड़ियों को प्रतियोगिता के लिए शुभकामनाएं दीं। साथ ही उन्होंने युवा खिलाड़ियों से खेल भावना के साथ मुकाबला करने और football के मूल्यों—discipline, teamwork, respect और sportsmanship—को मैदान पर बनाए रखने का आह्वान किया।
65वें सुब्रतो कप की एक महत्वपूर्ण विशेषता Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 category में age-determination test होगा। यह परीक्षण बेंगलुरु में आयोजित किया जाएगा ताकि आयु वर्ग के नियमों का सही तरीके से पालन सुनिश्चित किया जा सके और प्रतियोगिता में सभी खिलाड़ियों को समान अवसर मिल सके।

पिछले वर्ष आयोजित 64वें सुब्रतो कप में Junior Boys category का खिताब Farook Higher Secondary School, Kerala ने जीता था। Junior Girls category में Betkuchi High School, Guwahati, Assam विजेता रहा था, जबकि Sub-Junior Boys category में Minerva Public School, CISCE ने खिताब अपने नाम किया था।

24 सितंबर को Junior Boys Under-17 के फाइनल और Closing Ceremony के साथ 65वें संस्करण का समापन होगा।
