DGAFMS का पदभार संभालने से पहले एयर मार्शल संदीप थरेजा ने National War Memorial, New Delhi जाकर देश के लिए सर्वोच्च बलिदान देने वाले वीर सैनिकों को श्रद्धांजलि दी और wreath laying ceremony में हिस्सा लिया।
यह क्षण सैन्य चिकित्सा और सैन्य बलिदान के बीच के गहरे संबंध को भी सामने लाता है। युद्धक्षेत्र में medical officers, nurses, paramedics और medical support personnel भी सैनिकों के साथ कठिन परिस्थितियों में तैनात रहते हैं और घायल जवानों की जान बचाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं।
नई जिम्मेदारी संभालने से पहले National War Memorial पर श्रद्धांजलि इसलिए भी प्रतीकात्मक रही क्योंकि Armed Forces Medical Services का अंतिम उद्देश्य भी सैनिकों के जीवन की रक्षा और उनकी operational readiness को बनाए रखना है।
अब नई चुनौती: Medical Shield को Future-Ready बनाना
एयर मार्शल संदीप थरेजा के सामने अब कई महत्वपूर्ण चुनौतियां हैं। Armed Forces Medical Services को आधुनिक बनाना, battlefield medical preparedness को मजबूत करना, digital health को बढ़ावा देना, medical research और innovation को आगे बढ़ाना, human resources को विकसित करना और serving personnel, veterans तथा dependents को बेहतर healthcare उपलब्ध कराना उनकी जिम्मेदारियों का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा होगा।
उनके करियर का अनुभव इन सभी क्षेत्रों से जुड़ा रहा है — military hospitals से लेकर AFMC, COVID management से लेकर Gaganyaan और BHISHM तक।
यही व्यापक अनुभव उन्हें DGAFMS की जिम्मेदारी के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण नेतृत्व क्षमता प्रदान करता है।
एक डॉक्टर से लेकर Military Medical Commander तक का सफर
1986 में Army Medical Corps में कमीशन होने से लेकर 2026 में 47वें DGAFMS का पद संभालने तक एयर मार्शल संदीप थरेजा की यात्रा भारतीय सैन्य चिकित्सा के बदलते स्वरूप की कहानी भी है।
उन्होंने मरीजों का इलाज किया, अस्पतालों की कमान संभाली, medical education को आगे बढ़ाया, research को बढ़ावा दिया, COVID जैसी असाधारण परिस्थिति का सामना किया, Gaganyaan जैसे राष्ट्रीय मिशन में योगदान दिया और international HADR medical initiatives का हिस्सा बने।
अब उनके सामने Armed Forces Medical Services को भविष्य के युद्धक्षेत्र और भविष्य की healthcare challenges के लिए तैयार करने की जिम्मेदारी है।

एयर मार्शल संदीप थरेजा का DGAFMS के रूप में पदभार संभालना भारतीय Armed Forces Medical Services के लिए एक नए अध्याय की शुरुआत है।
एक ऐसे अधिकारी के हाथों में अब सैन्य चिकित्सा व्यवस्था की कमान है, जिसने अपने करियर में clinical medicine, military hospitals, administration, medical education, research, operational preparedness, space medicine और humanitarian assistance — लगभग हर महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्र का अनुभव हासिल किया है।
अब उनका नेतृत्व भारतीय सैनिकों की medical readiness, military healthcare modernisation और AFMS के भविष्य की दिशा तय करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएगा।
एक डॉक्टर की यात्रा अब उस मुकाम पर पहुंची है, जहां वह पूरी फौज की मेडिकल शील्ड की कमान संभाल रहा है।
