लॉरेंस बिश्नोई पर कड़ी नजर रखने वाली बीकानेर की जाई जन्मी आईपीएस श्वेता श्रीमाली बनीं इंटेलिजेंस ब्यूरो में डिप्टी डायरेक्टर

IPS Officer Shweta Shrimali Appointed as Deputy Director in Intelligence Bureau

Ahmedabad/Bikaner – Gujarat cadre 2010-batch IPS officer Shweta Shrimali has been relieved from her current post by the Gujarat government to join the Intelligence Bureau (IB) as Deputy Director. Before this appointment, she was serving as the Superintendent of Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad, one of the most sensitive prisons in the state.

Shrimali’s tenure as DIG (Jails) was marked by handling some of the most high-profile criminals, including gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is facing multiple cases of murder and extortion. Bishnoi is also accused in the firing incident at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Apart from Bishnoi, Shrimali was responsible for overseeing the imprisonment of UP gangster Fazlu Rehman, who is lodged in Sabarmati Jail.

A Tough Tenure in Sabarmati Jail

Shrimali took charge of Sabarmati Jail at a time when it was under heavy scrutiny due to security lapses. In June 2023, the then Superintendent of Ahmedabad Central Jail, Tejas Patel, was transferred following repeated seizures of mobile phones inside the prison. The UP Police had also raised concerns, alleging that gangster Atif Ahmed had masterminded the murder of Umesh Pal from inside Sabarmati Jail.

Shrimali’s tenure saw a tightening of security measures inside the jail, ensuring that criminals lodged there could not operate their networks from behind bars. Her strict administrative policies and vigilance were crucial in controlling criminal activities within the prison.

Husband Sunil Joshi May Also Get Central Deputation

Shrimali’s husband, Sunil Joshi, who is also a 2010-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as DIG (ATS), Gujarat. According to top sources in the administration, Joshi is also expected to be placed at the disposal of the central government soon. If approved, he might take up a crucial role in one of the central agencies.

With her vast experience in handling high-profile criminals and prison security, Shweta Shrimali’s appointment in Intelligence Bureau is seen as a significant move in strengthening the country’s internal security framework.

अहमदाबाद/बीकानेर – गुजरात कैडर की 2010 बैच की आईपीएस अधिकारी श्वेता जी श्रीमाली को इंटेलिजेंस ब्यूरो (IB) में डिप्टी डायरेक्टर नियुक्त किया गया है। गुजरात सरकार ने उनकी केंद्र सरकार में प्रतिनियुक्ति (central deputation) को मंजूरी दे दी है। इससे पहले वे अहमदाबाद की साबरमती सेंट्रल जेल की अधीक्षक के रूप में कार्यरत थीं, जो राज्य की सबसे संवेदनशील जेलों में से एक मानी जाती है।

श्वेता श्रीमाली ने डीआईजी (जेल) के रूप में कई हाई-प्रोफाइल अपराधियों को संभाला, जिनमें गैंगस्टर लॉरेंस बिश्नोई भी शामिल हैं। बिश्नोई पर हत्या और रंगदारी के कई मामले दर्ज हैं और वह बॉलीवुड अभिनेता सलमान खान के घर गैलेक्सी अपार्टमेंट, बांद्रा पर फायरिंग के मामले में भी आरोपी है। इसके अलावा, श्रीमाली ने यूपी के कुख्यात अपराधी फजलु रहमान पर भी पैनी नजर रखी, जो साबरमती जेल में बंद है।

साबरमती जेल में चुनौतीपूर्ण कार्यकाल

श्रीमाली ने ऐसे समय में साबरमती जेल की कमान संभाली जब यह सुरक्षा खामियों के कारण विवादों में थी। जून 2023 में, अहमदाबाद सेंट्रल जेल के अधीक्षक तेजस पटेल को स्थानांतरित किया गया था, क्योंकि जेल के अंदर बार-बार मोबाइल फोन मिलने की घटनाएं सामने आ रही थीं।

यूपी पुलिस ने भी आरोप लगाया था कि गैंगस्टर अतीक अहमद ने उमेश पाल हत्याकांड की साजिश साबरमती जेल से रची थी। ऐसे में श्वेता श्रीमाली ने जेल प्रशासन में कई कड़े सुरक्षा उपाय लागू किए, जिससे अपराधियों के बाहरी नेटवर्क को जेल के भीतर से संचालित करने पर रोक लगी।

पति सुनील जोशी भी हो सकते हैं केंद्र सरकार के अधीन

श्वेता श्रीमाली के पति सुनील जोशी, जो 2010 बैच के आईपीएस अधिकारी हैं, वर्तमान में गुजरात एटीएस में डीआईजी के पद पर तैनात हैं। प्रशासनिक सूत्रों के अनुसार, जल्द ही उन्हें भी केंद्र सरकार में प्रतिनियुक्त किया जा सकता है। अगर ऐसा होता है, तो उन्हें किसी प्रमुख केंद्रीय एजेंसी में नियुक्त किया जा सकता है।

श्वेता श्रीमाली की गंभीर अपराधियों और जेल सुरक्षा के प्रबंधन में विशेषज्ञता को देखते हुए, उनकी इंटेलिजेंस ब्यूरो में नियुक्ति देश की आंतरिक सुरक्षा को मजबूत करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम माना जा रहा है।
