Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann Assumes Charge as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command

The Indian Air Force (IAF) witnessed another significant leadership transition on 1 July 2026 as Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann, AVSM, VM, officially assumed charge as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Southern Air Command (SAC). A highly experienced fighter pilot and distinguished air warrior, Air Marshal Mann takes over the command of one of the Indian Air Force’s most strategically important operational formations responsible for safeguarding India’s southern peninsula and the vast Indian Ocean Region.
Commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the Indian Air Force on 16 December 1989, Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann has built an illustrious career spanning more than three decades. During his long service, he has held numerous operational, command, instructional and staff appointments, earning recognition for his exceptional leadership, operational expertise and professional excellence.
Before assuming his new appointment, Air Marshal Mann served as the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at Headquarters Western Air Command, one of the Indian Air Force’s busiest operational commands. In that role, he played a key part in operational planning, combat preparedness, air defence management, force deployment and mission readiness along India’s sensitive western front. His extensive experience in leading frontline air operations is expected to significantly strengthen the operational capabilities of the Southern Air Command.
Southern Air Command plays a crucial role in India’s national security architecture. Headquartered at Thiruvananthapuram, the Command is responsible for protecting India’s southern airspace, securing maritime interests over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, supporting operations in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions, and ensuring continuous surveillance over vital sea lanes of communication.
As Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann will oversee operational planning, combat readiness, training, modernization initiatives, infrastructure development, personnel management and the integration of advanced technologies across the Command. His leadership comes at a time when the Indian Air Force is expanding its strategic reach through indigenous defence technologies, network-centric warfare capabilities, advanced surveillance systems and greater jointness with the Indian Navy and the Indian Army.
The Southern Air Command has become increasingly important in view of the growing strategic significance of the Indian Ocean Region. The Command regularly undertakes maritime air operations, joint military exercises, strategic airlift missions, coastal surveillance and humanitarian operations. Under Air Marshal Mann’s leadership, the Command is expected to further enhance its operational readiness while strengthening India’s air and maritime security posture.
Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Vayu Sena Medal (VM), reflecting his distinguished service, operational excellence and unwavering dedication to the nation. His appointment is expected to provide strong strategic leadership as the Indian Air Force continues to modernize and enhance its capability to address evolving regional and global security challenges.
एयर मार्शल जसवीर सिंह मान ने संभाली सदर्न एयर कमांड की कमान; अनुभवी फाइटर पायलट को भारतीय वायुसेना के दक्षिणी रणनीतिक क्षेत्र की बड़ी जिम्मेदारी

भारतीय वायुसेना (IAF) के वरिष्ठ नेतृत्व में एक महत्वपूर्ण बदलाव के तहत 1 जुलाई 2026 को एयर मार्शल जसवीर सिंह मान, AVSM, VM ने आधिकारिक रूप से एयर ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ (AOC-in-C), सदर्न एयर कमांड का पदभार ग्रहण कर लिया। भारतीय वायुसेना के अनुभवी फाइटर पायलट और वरिष्ठ सैन्य अधिकारी के रूप में उनकी नियुक्ति ऐसे समय हुई है जब हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र (Indian Ocean Region) का सामरिक महत्व लगातार बढ़ रहा है और भारत अपनी समुद्री एवं हवाई सुरक्षा को और अधिक मजबूत बना रहा है।
16 दिसंबर 1989 को भारतीय वायुसेना की फाइटर स्ट्रीम में कमीशन प्राप्त करने वाले एयर मार्शल जसवीर सिंह मान तीन दशक से अधिक लंबे गौरवपूर्ण सैन्य करियर का अनुभव अपने साथ लेकर आए हैं। उन्होंने अपने सेवा काल में अनेक महत्वपूर्ण ऑपरेशनल, कमांड, स्टाफ तथा प्रशिक्षण संबंधी नियुक्तियों पर कार्य करते हुए भारतीय वायुसेना की युद्धक क्षमता, परिचालन दक्षता और नेतृत्व को नई मजबूती प्रदान की है।
नई जिम्मेदारी संभालने से पहले एयर मार्शल मान मुख्यालय वेस्टर्न एयर कमांड में सीनियर एयर स्टाफ ऑफिसर (SASO) के पद पर कार्यरत थे। इस महत्वपूर्ण दायित्व के दौरान उन्होंने पश्चिमी क्षेत्र में वायु रक्षा, युद्धक तैयारियों, ऑपरेशनल योजना, मिशन समन्वय, संसाधन प्रबंधन और वायु अभियानों के संचालन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। उनका व्यापक अनुभव अब सदर्न एयर कमांड की परिचालन क्षमता को और अधिक मजबूत बनाने में सहायक होगा।
सदर्न एयर कमांड, जिसका मुख्यालय तिरुवनंतपुरम में स्थित है, भारतीय वायुसेना का एक अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण ऑपरेशनल कमांड है। इसकी जिम्मेदारी भारत के दक्षिणी हवाई क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा, अरब सागर और बंगाल की खाड़ी में समुद्री हितों की रक्षा, हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में निगरानी, सामरिक एयर ऑपरेशन, मानवीय सहायता एवं आपदा राहत अभियान, तटीय सुरक्षा तथा समुद्री संचार मार्गों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करना है।
वर्तमान वैश्विक और क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा परिदृश्य में हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र का महत्व लगातार बढ़ रहा है। ऐसे समय में सदर्न एयर कमांड भारतीय नौसेना, भारतीय थलसेना और अन्य सुरक्षा एजेंसियों के साथ मिलकर संयुक्त सैन्य अभियानों, समुद्री निगरानी, रणनीतिक एयरलिफ्ट मिशनों और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा से जुड़े अनेक महत्वपूर्ण कार्यों का संचालन करता है।
एयर ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ के रूप में एयर मार्शल जसवीर सिंह मान अब कमांड की समग्र युद्धक तैयारी, ऑपरेशनल योजना, प्रशिक्षण, आधुनिक तकनीकों के समावेशन, मानव संसाधन प्रबंधन, आधारभूत संरचना के विकास तथा भविष्य की सुरक्षा चुनौतियों के अनुरूप सैन्य क्षमताओं को और अधिक मजबूत बनाने का नेतृत्व करेंगे। उनके नेतृत्व में सदर्न एयर कमांड के और अधिक आधुनिक, तकनीकी रूप से सक्षम तथा मिशन-रेडी बनने की उम्मीद है।
एयर मार्शल जसवीर सिंह मान को उनके उत्कृष्ट सैन्य योगदान के लिए अति विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (AVSM) तथा वायु सेना पदक (VM) से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। ये सम्मान उनके उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व, परिचालन दक्षता, पेशेवर उत्कृष्टता और राष्ट्र सेवा के प्रति समर्पण का प्रतीक हैं।
भारतीय वायुसेना के आधुनिकीकरण, संयुक्त सैन्य संचालन, स्वदेशी रक्षा प्रणालियों के विस्तार तथा हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में भारत की बढ़ती सामरिक भूमिका को देखते हुए एयर मार्शल जसवीर सिंह मान का सदर्न एयर कमांड की कमान संभालना एक महत्वपूर्ण नियुक्ति माना जा रहा है। उनके नेतृत्व में दक्षिणी वायु कमान से भारत की हवाई एवं समुद्री सुरक्षा को और अधिक सुदृढ़ बनाने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान की अपेक्षा की जा रही है।
