Bikaner | Border Infrastructure
Project Chetak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), operating from the Bikaner region and playing a significant role in strengthening strategic road connectivity across the border areas of Rajasthan and Punjab, has taken another step towards technology-enabled field management with the introduction of rugged biometric systems specially tailored for BRO’s operational environment.
The new biometric system is designed to replace conventional manual attendance practices with authenticated digital attendance and real-time visibility of manpower deployment. The initiative enables commanders to obtain a more reliable picture of personnel availability across dispersed field locations, supporting faster reporting, planning and informed decision-making.
The systems have been deployed across nearly 1,200 kilometres of frontage in Punjab and Rajasthan, covering around 2,000 personnel. The initiative addresses the unique challenges faced by BRO formations operating across remote locations, difficult terrain and areas where connectivity remains limited.
The technology initiative, led by the Directorate General Border Roads (DGBR), is now being extended across BRO formations and field teams, bringing digital manpower management closer to the last mile of the organisation’s operations.
For Project Chetak, this technological transformation adds a new dimension to its longstanding role in border infrastructure development. The project has undertaken major road construction and connectivity works across the strategically important border areas of Rajasthan, helping connect remote locations with the wider road network and improving access towards forward areas.
Over the years, Project Chetak has also contributed to connectivity involving major road corridors, State Highways and routes linked with strategic border infrastructure, strengthening the movement network in the desert and border regions.
From building roads in challenging terrain to introducing technology for better manpower visibility, Project Chetak continues to combine engineering capability with modern operational management.
The latest initiative reflects a broader transformation within BRO—where technology is increasingly being integrated not only into road construction and infrastructure development, but also into the management of the personnel working on some of the country’s most challenging frontiers.
At the last mile, Project Chetak is ensuring that technology does not stop.
