COAS General Upendra Dwivedi Visits Chetak Corps and Pays Tribute at Iconic Nagi War Memorial on the Eve of Independence Day

In a significant gesture of respect towards India’s military legacy and operational preparedness, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi embarked on a high-profile visit to the Chetak Corps headquarters at Bathinda Military Station and the revered Nagi War Memorial in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. The visit, strategically timed on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, underscored the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty while honouring the courage of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Operational Briefing at Chetak Corps

Upon arrival at Bathinda Military Station, General Dwivedi was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chetak Corps. He was given a comprehensive operational briefing covering the readiness of the deployed units and formations, the prevailing security situation along the international border in the Sapta Shakti Command theatre, ongoing training schedules, and the intricate operational logistics that ensure seamless response capabilities in the western sector.

General Dwivedi lauded the synergised coordination between the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF), calling it a cornerstone of effective border management. He emphasised that in the face of rapidly evolving security threats, the seamless exchange of intelligence, joint patrolling, and coordinated responses between the two forces were critical for the safety of border areas.

The Army Chief urged all ranks to maintain peak operational readiness, backed by realistic and rigorous training. He highlighted the importance of technological adaptability, urging soldiers to familiarise themselves with emerging defence technologies, electronic warfare systems, and advanced surveillance tools to remain ahead of adversaries.

Tribute at the Nagi War Memorial

From Bathinda, the COAS proceeded to the Nagi War Memorial, an iconic site built to commemorate the valour displayed by Indian soldiers during the Battle of Nagi in December 1971, fought during the Indo-Pak War. The battle, fought just days before the ceasefire, saw Indian troops capture Nagi village in the Sriganganagar sector, thwarting Pakistani attempts to gain a tactical foothold. The memorial today stands as a proud reminder of courage, resilience, and sacrifice.

General Dwivedi laid a wreath at the memorial, paying homage to the fallen heroes whose bravery continues to inspire generations of soldiers.

Interaction with Veterans and Civilian Warriors

The visit was marked by an emotional interaction with veterans who had fought in the historic Battle of Nagi, alongside prominent local citizens and ‘citizen warriors’ who had contributed to national defence in times of crisis. Among those felicitated were Colonel Satpal Rai Gabba (Retd), Lieutenant Colonel Jagjit Singh Maan (Retd), Craftsman Banwari Lal Swami (Retd), and Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Sis Ram (Retd).

General Dwivedi praised their lifelong contributions not just to the Armed Forces but also to nature conservation and nation-building in civilian life. He reaffirmed that the military-civilian bond forged during times of war continues to be a pillar of India’s security fabric.

Symbol of Resolve and Commitment

The COAS’s visit reflected the Indian Army’s steadfast resolve to guard India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It reinforced the ethos of courage, commitment, and sacrifice that form the backbone of the Armed Forces. On the eve of Independence Day, the events served as both a reminder of past sacrifices and a call to future readiness.

भारतीय सेना के साहसिक इतिहास और ऑपरेशनल तैयारियों के प्रति सम्मान प्रकट करते हुए आर्मी चीफ (COAS) जनरल उपेंद्र द्विवेदी ने चेतक कोर मुख्यालय बठिंडा सैन्य स्टेशन और राजस्थान के श्रीगंगानगर में स्थित प्रतिष्ठित नागी युद्ध स्मारक का दौरा किया। स्वतंत्रता दिवस की पूर्व संध्या पर किया गया यह दौरा भारतीय सेना की राष्ट्र की संप्रभुता की रक्षा के प्रति अटूट प्रतिबद्धता और उन वीरों के प्रति सम्मान का प्रतीक रहा जिन्होंने देश के लिए अपने प्राण न्यौछावर किए।

चेतक कोर में ऑपरेशनल जानकारी

बठिंडा सैन्य स्टेशन पहुंचने पर जनरल द्विवेदी का स्वागत चेतक कोर के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग (GOC) ने किया। उन्हें इस क्षेत्र में तैनात इकाइयों और फोर्मेशन्स की ऑपरेशनल रेडीनेस, अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा पर मौजूदा सुरक्षा स्थिति, प्रशिक्षण गतिविधियों और परिचालन रसद व्यवस्था के बारे में विस्तृत जानकारी दी गई।

आर्मी चीफ ने भारतीय सेना और सीमा सुरक्षा बल (BSF) के बीच उत्कृष्ट तालमेल की सराहना की और इसे प्रभावी सीमा प्रबंधन की नींव बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि बदलते सुरक्षा माहौल में खुफिया सूचनाओं का आदान-प्रदान, संयुक्त गश्त और समन्वित कार्रवाई, सीमा क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा के लिए अत्यंत आवश्यक है।

उन्होंने सभी रैंकों को सदैव उच्चतम ऑपरेशनल रेडीनेस बनाए रखने और यथार्थपरक व कठोर प्रशिक्षण पर बल दिया। उन्होंने सैनिकों से नई सैन्य तकनीकों, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक युद्ध प्रणालियों और उन्नत निगरानी साधनों में दक्षता हासिल करने का आह्वान किया, ताकि वे समय से पहले खतरों का मुकाबला कर सकें।

नागी युद्ध स्मारक पर श्रद्धांजलि

बठिंडा से जनरल द्विवेदी नागी युद्ध स्मारक पहुंचे। यह स्मारक दिसंबर 1971 के नागी युद्ध में भारतीय सैनिकों के अद्वितीय साहस को समर्पित है। भारत-पाक युद्ध के दौरान, युद्धविराम से कुछ दिन पहले लड़ा गया यह युद्ध, श्रीगंगानगर सेक्टर के नागी गांव में हुआ था, जहां भारतीय सेना ने दुश्मन के कब्जे की कोशिश को विफल करते हुए निर्णायक विजय हासिल की। आज यह स्मारक साहस, दृढ़ता और बलिदान का अमर प्रतीक है।

आर्मी चीफ ने स्मारक पर पुष्पांजलि अर्पित कर शहीदों को नमन किया, जिनका शौर्य आज भी आने वाली पीढ़ियों को प्रेरणा देता है।

पूर्व सैनिकों और नागरिक योद्धाओं से संवाद

दौरे के दौरान, जनरल द्विवेदी ने 1971 के नागी युद्ध में भाग लेने वाले पूर्व सैनिकों, प्रमुख नागरिकों और उन ‘नागरिक योद्धाओं’ से भेंट की जिन्होंने संकट के समय राष्ट्र रक्षा में योगदान दिया। इस अवसर पर कर्नल सतपाल राय गब्बा (सेवानिवृत्त), लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल जगजीत सिंह मान (सेवानिवृत्त), सीएफएन बनवारी लाल स्वामी (सेवानिवृत्त) और सूबेदार मेजर (होनोरेरी कैप्टन) शीश राम (सेवानिवृत्त) को सशस्त्र बलों, प्रकृति संरक्षण और राष्ट्र निर्माण में उनके अमूल्य योगदान के लिए सम्मानित किया गया।

आर्मी चीफ ने कहा कि युद्ध के दौरान बना सैन्य-नागरिक संबंध आज भी राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था का अभिन्न हिस्सा है।

साहस और संकल्प का प्रतीक

यह दौरा भारतीय सेना के उस अटूट संकल्प का प्रमाण रहा जिसके तहत वह देश की संप्रभुता और क्षेत्रीय अखंडता की रक्षा के लिए सदैव तैयार रहती है। स्वतंत्रता दिवस की पूर्व संध्या पर यह आयोजन अतीत के बलिदानों की याद और भविष्य की तैयारी का संदेश लेकर आया।
