Reaffirming its commitment to maternal and child healthcare, Command Hospital (Eastern Command) observed World Breastfeeding Week 2026 with a comprehensive series of awareness, educational and counselling programmes aimed at promoting optimal breastfeeding practices among mothers and families. The week-long initiative reflected the Armed Forces Medical Services’ (AFMS) continued emphasis on preventive healthcare, nutrition education and the well-being of both mothers and newborns.
The programme brought together medical specialists, nursing professionals, healthcare workers, pregnant women, new mothers and family members in an effort to spread awareness about the life-saving benefits of breastfeeding. Through expert-led lectures, practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, participants were educated on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of a baby’s life and the long-term health benefits it offers to both infants and mothers.
Medical experts highlighted that breast milk is the ideal source of nutrition for newborns, providing all the essential nutrients, antibodies and immune protection required for healthy growth and development. They explained that breastfeeding significantly reduces the risk of infections, strengthens immunity, supports brain development and contributes to better physical and emotional well-being during infancy.
The awareness campaign also focused on the health benefits for mothers, including faster post-delivery recovery, improved maternal health, reduced risk of certain cancers and enhanced emotional bonding between mother and child. Healthcare professionals encouraged families to actively support breastfeeding mothers, recognising that family involvement plays a crucial role in ensuring successful breastfeeding practices.
One of the major highlights of the event was the series of one-to-one counselling sessions, where doctors and lactation experts addressed individual concerns of new mothers, offered practical guidance on breastfeeding techniques and helped resolve common challenges faced during the early stages of motherhood.
The programme also featured interactive discussions and role-play performances by cadets of the College of Nursing, who creatively demonstrated correct breastfeeding practices, newborn care and family support through educational presentations. These activities made the awareness campaign more engaging while reinforcing key public health messages.
Officials stated that the observance of World Breastfeeding Week aligns with the broader mission of the Armed Forces Medical Services to promote preventive healthcare, maternal wellness, child nutrition and evidence-based medical education across military healthcare institutions. Such initiatives not only benefit serving personnel and their families but also contribute to strengthening overall community health awareness.

कमांड हॉस्पिटल (ईस्टर्न कमांड) में विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह 2026 (World Breastfeeding Week 2026) के अवसर पर मातृ एवं शिशु स्वास्थ्य को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से व्यापक जागरूकता एवं शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया गया। इस विशेष अभियान के माध्यम से सशस्त्र बल चिकित्सा सेवा (Armed Forces Medical Services–AFMS) ने एक बार फिर सुरक्षित मातृत्व, नवजात शिशु के पोषण और परिवार-केंद्रित स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता को दोहराया।
कार्यक्रम में विशेषज्ञ चिकित्सकों, नर्सिंग अधिकारियों, स्वास्थ्य कर्मियों, गर्भवती महिलाओं, नवप्रसूता माताओं तथा उनके परिवारों ने भाग लिया। पूरे सप्ताह आयोजित विभिन्न गतिविधियों के माध्यम से प्रतिभागियों को स्तनपान के वैज्ञानिक, चिकित्सीय और सामाजिक महत्व के बारे में विस्तार से जानकारी दी गई। विशेषज्ञों ने बताया कि जन्म के बाद पहले छह महीनों तक केवल मां का दूध (Exclusive Breastfeeding) शिशु के संपूर्ण विकास के लिए सर्वोत्तम पोषण प्रदान करता है।
विशेषज्ञ व्याख्यानों के दौरान डॉक्टरों ने बताया कि मां का दूध शिशु के लिए प्राकृतिक और संपूर्ण आहार है, जिसमें आवश्यक पोषक तत्व, एंटीबॉडी और रोग प्रतिरोधक क्षमता बढ़ाने वाले तत्व मौजूद होते हैं। इससे नवजात को संक्रमणों से सुरक्षा मिलती है, प्रतिरक्षा प्रणाली मजबूत होती है, मस्तिष्क का बेहतर विकास होता है तथा शारीरिक और मानसिक वृद्धि में महत्वपूर्ण सहायता मिलती है।
कार्यक्रम में माताओं के स्वास्थ्य पर भी विशेष ध्यान दिया गया। चिकित्सकों ने बताया कि नियमित स्तनपान से प्रसव के बाद शरीर तेजी से सामान्य स्थिति में लौटता है, कुछ प्रकार के कैंसर का खतरा कम होता है तथा मां और शिशु के बीच भावनात्मक संबंध और अधिक मजबूत होते हैं। उन्होंने परिवार के सदस्यों से भी स्तनपान कराने वाली माताओं को सहयोग देने का आह्वान किया।
इस अवसर पर एक-से-एक (One-to-One) काउंसलिंग सत्रों का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें विशेषज्ञ डॉक्टरों और लैक्टेशन काउंसलर्स ने नई माताओं की व्यक्तिगत समस्याओं का समाधान किया। उन्हें सही स्तनपान तकनीक, शिशु की देखभाल, पोषण संबंधी सुझाव तथा शुरुआती चुनौतियों से निपटने के व्यावहारिक उपाय बताए गए।
कार्यक्रम का एक आकर्षक हिस्सा कॉलेज ऑफ नर्सिंग की कैडेट्स द्वारा प्रस्तुत रोल प्ले (Role Play) और जागरूकता प्रदर्शन रहा। इन प्रस्तुतियों के माध्यम से सही स्तनपान तकनीक, नवजात शिशु की देखभाल और परिवार की भूमिका को सरल एवं प्रभावशाली तरीके से समझाया गया। इंटरैक्टिव सत्रों ने माताओं और परिवारों को विशेषज्ञों से सीधे संवाद करने का अवसर भी प्रदान किया।
