First Next Generation Missile Vessel for Indian Navy Keel Laid at Cochin Shipyard in Kochi
Kochi: The keel laying ceremony of the first ship under the Indian Navy’s Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) project was held at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, marking a significant milestone in the construction of India’s future missile-vessel fleet.
The ceremony was held on September 18, 2026, in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu, Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition, who attended as the Chief Guest. Senior officials from the Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Limited were also present during the ceremony.
The contract for construction of the Next Generation Missile Vessels was concluded with Cochin Shipyard Limited in March 2023. The vessels are being developed to strengthen the Indian Navy’s combat capabilities through the integration of state-of-the-art weapons and sensor systems.
The NGMVs are envisaged as highly capable platforms designed to contribute to the Indian Navy’s objective of remaining a future-ready and combat-ready force. Their construction also reflects India’s continuing efforts to strengthen indigenous warship-building capabilities and maintain a modern naval force capable of operating in an increasingly complex maritime environment across the Indian Ocean Region.
A major feature of the programme is the high level of indigenous content in the vessels. According to the Indian Navy, the major role-defining equipment for the NGMVs has been indigenously developed and manufactured in India.
The project therefore represents another step towards strengthening the country’s domestic defence-industrial ecosystem and is aligned with the Government of India’s initiatives of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India and Make for the World.
The keel laying marks the formal commencement of a crucial phase in the construction of the first NGMV and underscores the growing role of Indian shipyards in delivering advanced naval platforms for the Indian Navy.

कोच्चि में भारतीय नौसेना के पहले नेक्स्ट जेनरेशन मिसाइल वेसल की Keel Laying, स्वदेशी युद्धपोत निर्माण को मिला नया बढ़ावा
कोच्चि : भारतीय नौसेना के Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) Project के तहत बनने वाले पहले पोत की Keel Laying Ceremony 18 सितंबर 2026 को कोचीन शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड (CSL), कोच्चि में आयोजित की गई। यह समारोह भारतीय नौसेना के भविष्य के मिसाइल वेसल बेड़े के निर्माण की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर माना जा रहा है।
समारोह में Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition वाइस एडमिरल संजय साधु मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में शामिल हुए। भारतीय नौसेना और कोचीन शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड के कई वरिष्ठ अधिकारी भी इस अवसर पर मौजूद रहे।
Next Generation Missile Vessels के निर्माण के लिए भारतीय नौसेना और Cochin Shipyard Limited के बीच अनुबंध मार्च 2023 में हुआ था। इन पोतों को अत्याधुनिक हथियारों और सेंसर प्रणालियों से लैस किए जाने की योजना है, जिससे भारतीय नौसेना की युद्धक क्षमता को और मजबूत किया जा सकेगा।
NGMV परियोजना को भारतीय नौसेना को ‘Future Ready and Combat Ready Force’ के रूप में विकसित करने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण कदम माना जा रहा है। ये पोत हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में तेजी से बदलते और जटिल समुद्री सुरक्षा वातावरण में भारतीय नौसेना की परिचालन क्षमता को मजबूत करने में भूमिका निभाएंगे।
इस परियोजना की एक महत्वपूर्ण विशेषता इसका स्वदेशीकरण है। भारतीय नौसेना के अनुसार, NGMVs में इस्तेमाल होने वाले प्रमुख role-defining equipment को भारत में ही विकसित और निर्मित किया गया है। यह देश की बढ़ती स्वदेशी रक्षा तकनीकी क्षमता और युद्धपोत निर्माण क्षेत्र में आत्मनिर्भरता को दर्शाता है।
NGMV परियोजना भारत के घरेलू रक्षा औद्योगिक आधार को मजबूत करने के साथ-साथ अत्याधुनिक नौसैनिक प्लेटफॉर्म के निर्माण में भारतीय शिपयार्ड की बढ़ती क्षमता को भी प्रदर्शित करती है।
इस परियोजना का निर्माण आत्मनिर्भर भारत, मेक इन इंडिया और मेक फॉर द वर्ल्ड जैसी भारत सरकार की पहलों के अनुरूप किया जा रहा है। पहले NGMV की Keel Laying के साथ अब जहाज के निर्माण की एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रक्रिया औपचारिक रूप से आगे बढ़ गई है।
यह परियोजना भारतीय नौसेना के लिए आधुनिक, स्वदेशी और भविष्य की समुद्री चुनौतियों के अनुरूप युद्धपोत क्षमता विकसित करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।
