General Upendra Dwivedi Assumes Appointment as Honorary Colonel of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts Regiment
Chief of the Army Staff receives Honorary Colonel’s baton in a solemn ceremony attended by senior officers of the Regiment.

The Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts Regiment announced with great pride that General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), has assumed the prestigious appointment of Honorary Colonel of The Jammu and Kashmir Rifles & Ladakh Scouts Regiment.
The appointment was formalised during a solemn and dignified ceremony held on 22 June 2026, where the Honorary Colonel’s Baton was presented to the Army Chief by Lieutenant General M.P. Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, Colonel of the Regiment, in the presence of serving General Officers of the Regiment.

The appointment marks another significant milestone in General Dwivedi’s distinguished military career spanning four decades of exemplary service to the nation. As the 30th Chief of the Army Staff, he has held several key command, staff and instructional appointments, contributing significantly to the operational effectiveness and modernisation of the Indian Army.
General Dwivedi also shares a deep and enduring association with the Regiment, having served as its Colonel of the Regiment from 1 February 2022 to 30 June 2024. During his tenure, he played an important role in further strengthening the Regiment’s traditions, operational ethos and welfare initiatives.

The appointment of Honorary Colonel reflects the Regiment’s respect and admiration for General Dwivedi’s leadership, professional excellence and longstanding contributions to the Indian Army. It also ensures that the Regiment will continue to benefit from his guidance, mentorship and stewardship.
Senior officers and veterans of the Regiment welcomed the appointment, describing it as a proud moment for all ranks and families associated with the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts.
The Regiment extended its heartfelt congratulations to the Army Chief and expressed confidence that his continued association would further inspire future generations of soldiers to uphold the highest standards of courage, professionalism and service.
