Indian Air Force Deploys C-17 Globemaster Aircraft for HADR Operations in Southeast Asia
In response to the devastating effects of Typhoon Yagi, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has mobilized its C-17 Globemaster aircraft for critical Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in Southeast Asia. The massive typhoon has caused severe flooding in Laos and Vietnam and Mayanmar, prompting urgent international aid efforts.
The IAF’s strategic deployment involves key missions to Vietnam ,laos and Mayanmar. At the Hindan Airbase, the C-17 Globemaster team carried out swift and efficient loading and coordination operations to prepare for the relief flights. These aircraft, renowned for their substantial cargo capacity and long-range capabilities, are ideally suited for transporting large quantities of aid and essential supplies to disaster-stricken areas.

The relief mission to Vietnam involves transporting 35 tons of aid, which includes water purification items, water containers, blankets, kitchen utensils, and solar lanterns. The flooding in Vietnam, which has severely impacted numerous communities, necessitates a comprehensive aid response. The water purification items and solar lanterns are crucial for ensuring safe drinking water and providing illumination in areas where electrical infrastructure may be compromised. The blankets and kitchen utensils will address immediate needs for warmth and food preparation, respectively.
