The initiative is also aimed at creating awareness among young Indians about the wide range of professional opportunities available within the armed forces and inspiring them to consider a career dedicated to national service.
EME CORPS: THE TECHNICAL BACKBONE BEHIND ARMY EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS
The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness of the Indian Army’s equipment and systems. From maintaining sophisticated military platforms and electronic systems to supporting modernisation and technological upgrades, EME personnel contribute directly to the Army’s ability to remain operationally effective in demanding environments. Their responsibilities extend across engineering support, maintenance, repair, technical innovation and the introduction of modern technologies. The “Ride with Pride” expedition provides an opportunity to bring this often behind-the-scenes contribution into the public domain and demonstrate how engineering excellence supports military capability.
TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION IS CHANGING THE MODERN BATTLEFIELD
Modern warfare is rapidly evolving, with technology playing an increasingly decisive role in military operations. Digital systems, advanced electronics, sensors, communications, precision technologies, autonomous systems and sophisticated platforms are transforming the manner in which armed forces operate. In such an environment, maintaining military equipment is no longer limited to traditional mechanical repair. It increasingly requires highly trained technical personnel capable of understanding complex electronic, electrical, mechanical and integrated systems. The EME Corps occupies a crucial position in this transformation, supporting the Army as it adapts its equipment and systems to the demands of contemporary warfare.
FROM MAINTENANCE TO MODERNISATION: THE EVOLVING ROLE OF EME
The role of military engineering organisations has evolved significantly with the introduction of increasingly sophisticated weapon platforms, vehicles, communications systems, electronic equipment and battlefield technologies. The EME Corps is responsible not only for keeping equipment serviceable but also for contributing to its modernisation and technical improvement. This involves professional expertise, innovation and an ability to adapt existing systems to changing operational requirements. Through the “Ride with Pride” campaign, the Indian Army is highlighting this broader role and demonstrating that technical excellence is an essential component of combat readiness.
EME SCHOOL VADODARA AS A CENTRE OF TECHNICAL PROFESSIONALISM
The EME School in Vadodara represents an important centre for technical training and professional development within the Indian Army. The institution contributes to developing the technical competence required to operate, maintain and modernise complex military systems. The launch of the expedition from the school carries additional significance because the journey begins from an institution directly associated with the training and professional development of EME personnel. By taking the expedition from Vadodara towards New Delhi, the initiative connects the Army’s technical training ecosystem with a wider public outreach effort.
MAJOR GENERAL MOHIT GANDHI FLAGS OFF THE EXPEDITION
The expedition was formally flagged off by Major General Mohit Gandhi, Commandant, EME School, on October 05, 2026. The flag-off ceremony marked the beginning of the journey and brought together the spirit of military discipline, technical professionalism and adventure. The participation of 12 EME riders reflects the expedition’s emphasis on teamwork and collective responsibility—qualities that are central to military service as well as to the technical support structure that keeps operational formations effective.
A MILITARY MOTORCYCLE EXPEDITION WITH A MESSAGE BEYOND THE ROAD
Unlike a conventional motorcycle expedition undertaken purely for adventure or endurance, “Ride with Pride” carries a clearly defined institutional message. Each stage of the journey provides an opportunity to interact with citizens and young people and explain the contribution of the EME Corps to the Indian Army. The riders will serve as representatives of the technical arm of the Army, demonstrating how military engineering, innovation and professional expertise contribute to national security. The expedition therefore combines mobility and outreach with a broader effort to communicate the Army’s technological transformation to the public.
INSPIRING YOUNG INDIANS TO CHOOSE A CAREER IN THE ARMED FORCES
One of the major objectives of the expedition is to encourage young Indians to explore careers in the armed forces. Interactions along the route are expected to provide an opportunity for youth to understand the diverse roles available within the military, particularly in technical and engineering fields. As the armed forces increasingly adopt advanced technologies, the requirement for technically skilled personnel continues to grow. Initiatives such as “Ride with Pride” help communicate that a career in the Army is not restricted to conventional combat roles but also includes highly specialised opportunities in engineering, electronics, mechanics, technology and systems management.
TECHNOLOGY, INNOVATION AND PROFESSIONALISM AT THE CORE
The expedition also underlines the EME Corps’ commitment to three important pillars—innovation, professionalism and outreach. Military technology is constantly evolving, and the ability to maintain operational effectiveness depends on an organisation’s capacity to absorb new technologies, develop technical solutions and adapt to emerging requirements. Professional competence remains central to this process. At the same time, outreach allows the Army to communicate its technological journey with the wider public and create greater awareness about the contribution of technical personnel to national defence.
WESTERN INDIA TO THE NATIONAL CAPITAL: A JOURNEY OF CONNECTIVITY
The route from Vadodara through Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaipur before reaching New Delhi gives the expedition a broad geographic footprint. Each stop provides an opportunity for interaction and engagement, allowing the EME riders to connect with communities across different regions. The journey also creates a visible representation of the Army’s relationship with the people, reinforcing the idea that technological transformation within the armed forces is ultimately directed towards strengthening national security and serving the nation.
THE HUMAN SIDE OF MILITARY TECHNOLOGY
Behind every military platform and technical system is a team of trained personnel responsible for keeping it operational. The “Ride with Pride” expedition brings this human dimension of military technology into focus. Engineers, technicians and technical soldiers work behind the scenes to ensure that equipment remains ready for deployment, often under demanding operational and environmental conditions. Their contribution may not always be visible during frontline operations, but it is fundamental to sustaining military capability. The expedition provides an opportunity to recognise this technical workforce and highlight its contribution to the Indian Army.
A REFLECTION OF THE INDIAN ARMY’S BROADER PUSH FOR TECHNOLOGICAL EXCELLENCE
The “Ride with Pride – EME Towards Technological Transformation” initiative forms part of the Indian Army’s broader emphasis on technological excellence and modernisation. As warfare becomes increasingly technology-driven, military effectiveness depends on a combination of trained personnel, advanced equipment, reliable maintenance systems and continuous innovation. The EME Corps stands at the intersection of these requirements, supporting the Army’s transition towards increasingly sophisticated military capabilities.
FROM VADODARA TO NEW DELHI, ‘RIDE WITH PRIDE’ CARRIES A MESSAGE OF MODERN ARMY, MODERN TECHNOLOGY AND MODERN SERVICE
The 1,250-kilometre motorcycle expedition is therefore more than a journey across Indian highways. It is an effort to showcase the changing face of the Indian Army, where technology, engineering and innovation are becoming increasingly central to operational readiness. As the 12 EME riders travel from Vadodara through Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaipur towards New Delhi, they will carry with them a message about the importance of technical expertise in national defence and the growing opportunities for young Indians within the armed forces.
The expedition reflects the EME Corps’ commitment to maintaining the Army’s equipment, modernising military systems, promoting innovation and connecting with the wider public. “Ride with Pride” ultimately presents the EME Corps not only as a technical support arm, but as an important force driving the Indian Army towards greater technological excellence, operational readiness and modernisation.
