Indian Army’s Fiery Fifteen Battalion Commemorates 60 Years of 1965 War With Trekking Expedition to Sari Pass in Barot Valley

In a proud and inspiring initiative, the Fiery Fifteen Battalion of the Indian Army’s prestigious Tiger Division has undertaken a commemorative trekking expedition to the picturesque yet challenging Sari Pass in the Barot Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The expedition has been organised to mark the 60th anniversary—Diamond Jubilee—of the valour and sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the Indo-Pak War of 1965, also known as Operation Riddle.

A dedicated team of 15 brave soldiers from the Tiger Division successfully completed the arduous 108-kilometre trekking expedition through the rugged terrain of Himachal Pradesh, symbolising the indomitable spirit and courage of the Indian Army. The expedition was flagged off on June 14, 2025, from the iconic Tiger War Memorial by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Tiger Division after a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, honouring the supreme sacrifices of soldiers who laid down their lives to protect the nation.

Tribute to the Heroes of the 1965 War

The Indo-Pak War of 1965 remains etched in India’s military history as a defining moment that showcased the bravery, strategic acumen, and unflinching commitment of the Indian Armed Forces. As the nation prepares to observe the 60th anniversary of Operation Riddle, the trekking expedition to Sari Pass stands as a symbolic gesture of remembrance and gratitude towards those who ensured India’s victory and safeguarded its territorial integrity.

Speaking on the occasion, senior army officials highlighted that the expedition not only honours the sacrifices of the past but also motivates the present and future generations to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and national service.

Spreading Patriotism Among Youth and Citizens

During the course of the expedition, the team of soldiers interacted with school children, local youth, military veterans, and Veer Naris (war widows) across various villages and settlements enroute. These interactions served as an opportunity to instil a sense of pride, belongingness, and awareness about the contributions of the Indian Army in safeguarding the nation.

The soldiers shared stories of valour, hardships, and brotherhood from the 1965 War, inspiring many young minds to dream of donning the uniform and serving the nation. The expedition also witnessed enthusiastic participation from local communities who welcomed the army personnel with traditional hospitality, further strengthening the bond between the armed forces and the civilians.

Sari Pass – A Test of Endurance and Spirit

The Sari Pass, located in the scenic Barot Valley of Himachal Pradesh, presents a formidable challenge even to seasoned trekkers with its steep ascents, unpredictable weather, and difficult terrain. Undertaking a 108-kilometre trek through this region reflects not only the physical endurance but also the mental resilience of the Indian Army’s soldiers.

This expedition is yet another testimony to the preparedness, professionalism, and never-say-die attitude that defines the Indian Army.

Tiger Division – Legacy of Courage

The Tiger Division, raised in the backdrop of the Indo-Pak War of 1965, has earned a distinguished reputation for its operational excellence, bravery, and contributions to India’s defence. Over the past 50 years, the Fiery Fifteen Battalion has upheld the proud traditions of the Indian Army, making immense sacrifices and displaying unmatched dedication to the nation.

As India celebrates 60 years of victory and valour in the 1965 War, this expedition rekindles the memory of the heroes who fought valiantly and reinforces the resolve to defend the motherland against all adversities.

भारतीय सेना की प्रतिष्ठित टाइगर डिवीजन की फियरी फिफ्टीन बटालियन ने 1965 के भारत-पाक युद्ध की 60वीं वर्षगांठ के उपलक्ष्य में हिमाचल प्रदेश स्थित बारोट घाटी के कठिन लेकिन मनमोहक सारी दर्रे तक एक प्रेरक ट्रेकिंग अभियान सफलतापूर्वक पूरा किया। यह अभियान उन जांबाज़ सैनिकों के सम्मान में आयोजित किया गया, जिन्होंने 1965 के युद्ध में भारत की रक्षा करते हुए अपने प्राणों की आहुति दी।

15 साहसी सैनिकों की इस टीम ने 108 किलोमीटर का कठिन ट्रेकिंग सफर पूरा कर न केवल शारीरिक दृढ़ता का प्रदर्शन किया, बल्कि यह भी दिखाया कि भारतीय सेना का साहस और समर्पण कभी कम नहीं होता। अभियान की शुरुआत 14 जून 2025 को जम्मू में प्रतिष्ठित टाइगर वॉर मेमोरियल से की गई। टाइगर डिवीजन के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग (GOC) ने श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित कर इस अभियान को हरी झंडी दिखाई।

1965 के युद्ध के शूरवीरों को श्रद्धांजलि

भारत-पाक युद्ध 1965 भारतीय सैन्य इतिहास में साहस, रणनीति और बलिदान की मिसाल के रूप में दर्ज है। ऑपरेशन रिडल के 60 साल पूरे होने पर यह ट्रेकिंग अभियान वीर सैनिकों की कुर्बानी और देशभक्ति को याद करने का एक सशक्त प्रतीक है।

सेना के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने इस अवसर पर कहा कि यह अभियान न केवल बीते समय के बलिदानों को याद करता है, बल्कि आने वाली पीढ़ियों को देशसेवा के लिए प्रेरित करता है।

युवाओं में देशभक्ति का संचार

अभियान के दौरान सैनिकों ने स्कूल के बच्चों, स्थानीय युवाओं, पूर्व सैनिकों और वीर नारियों से मुलाकात की। इन मुलाकातों के दौरान सैनिकों ने 1965 युद्ध के वीरता और भाईचारे की कहानियां साझा कीं, जिससे युवाओं में देशभक्ति और सेना के प्रति सम्मान का भाव उत्पन्न हुआ।

स्थानीय ग्रामीणों ने भी सैनिकों का पारंपरिक स्वागत कर सेना और नागरिकों के बीच आपसी संबंधों को और प्रगाढ़ किया।

सारी दर्रा – साहस और सहनशक्ति की परीक्षा

हिमाचल प्रदेश की बारोट घाटी में स्थित सारी दर्रा अपनी कठिन चढ़ाई, अनिश्चित मौसम और दुर्गम रास्तों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। 108 किलोमीटर का यह ट्रेकिंग अभियान किसी भी अनुभवी ट्रेकर के लिए चुनौतीपूर्ण होता है। इस चुनौती को भारतीय सेना के जांबाज़ सैनिकों ने सफलता से पूरा कर यह सिद्ध किया कि उनका साहस और मानसिक दृढ़ता अद्वितीय है।

टाइगर डिवीजन – बहादुरी की पहचान

भारत-पाक युद्ध 1965 की पृष्ठभूमि में स्थापित टाइगर डिवीजन भारतीय सेना की गौरवशाली विरासत का प्रतीक रही है। पिछले 50 वर्षों में फियरी फिफ्टीन बटालियन ने देश की रक्षा में वीरता और समर्पण की अद्वितीय मिसाल पेश की है।

जैसे-जैसे देश 1965 युद्ध की 60वीं वर्षगांठ की ओर बढ़ रहा है, यह ट्रेकिंग अभियान उन जांबाज़ों की स्मृति को जीवित करता है जिन्होंने भारत की रक्षा के लिए अपने प्राण न्यौछावर कर दिए। साथ ही यह देश के प्रति निष्ठा, एकता और समर्पण की भावना को भी सशक्त करता है।
