Indian Navy Unveils Logo for Navika Sagar Parikrama II: Two Women Officers to Circumnavigate the Globe
In a significant milestone for the Indian Navy and the realm of maritime exploration, the Indian Navy has proudly unveiled the logo for the forthcoming Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition. This pioneering journey will see two distinguished Indian Navy women officers, Lieutenant Commander Roopa A and Lieutenant Commander Dilna K, embarking on a remarkable circumnavigation of the globe. Lieutenant Commander Roopa A and Lieutenant Commander Dilna K have undergone extensive preparation for this ambitious expedition over the past three years. Their preparation includes a range of challenging sailing experiences. Last year, they participated as part of a six-member crew in a trans-oceanic expedition from Goa to Rio de Janeiro via Cape Town and back. Subsequently, they undertook a demanding sailing voyage from Goa to Port Blair and back in a double-handed mode, and earlier this year, they completed another dual-handed sortie from Goa to Port Louis, Mauritius.
The forthcoming Navika Sagar Parikrama II will not only test their skills and endurance but also highlight the significant advancements in India’s maritime endeavors. The voyage will demand extraordinary levels of physical fitness, mental alertness, and seamanship. The officers have been rigorously trained, amassing thousands of miles of sailing experience. They are also under the expert mentorship of Commander Abhilash Tomy (Retd.), a celebrated circumnavigator and Golden Globe Race hero, whose guidance is expected to be invaluable.
