In a significant boost to India’s maritime security architecture and indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, the keel-laying ceremony of Yard 16404, the fourth vessel among six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) being built for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), was successfully conducted at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai, on June 25, 2026. The ceremony marked another crucial milestone in India’s journey towards strengthening coastal surveillance, maritime domain awareness, and self-reliance in defence production under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

भारत की समुद्री सुरक्षा क्षमताओं को और अधिक मजबूत बनाने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि हासिल हुई है। भारतीय तटरक्षक बल के लिए बनाए जा रहे छह नेक्स्ट जनरेशन ऑफशोर पेट्रोल वेसल (NGOPV) में से चौथे जहाज यार्ड-16404 का कील लेइंग समारोह 25 जून 2026 को मुंबई स्थित मझगांव डॉक शिपबिल्डर्स लिमिटेड (MDL) में सम्पन्न हुआ। यह समारोह भारतीय समुद्री सुरक्षा, स्वदेशी रक्षा निर्माण और आत्मनिर्भर भारत अभियान की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण पड़ाव माना जा रहा है।
समारोह में भारतीय तटरक्षक बल तथा मझगांव डॉक शिपबिल्डर्स लिमिटेड के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने भाग लिया। किसी भी युद्धपोत या समुद्री जहाज के निर्माण में कील लेइंग समारोह को अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है क्योंकि यही वह क्षण होता है जब कागजों और डिजाइन से आगे बढ़कर जहाज का वास्तविक निर्माण प्रारंभ होता है।
क्या होता है कील लेइंग समारोह और क्यों है यह इतना महत्वपूर्ण?
समुद्री परंपराओं में कील को किसी भी जहाज की रीढ़ माना जाता है। कील लेइंग का अर्थ है जहाज के मूल ढांचे की स्थापना, जिसके बाद उसके विभिन्न हिस्सों का निर्माण और संयोजन शुरू होता है। यह केवल एक औपचारिक कार्यक्रम नहीं बल्कि जहाज निर्माण प्रक्रिया की आधिकारिक शुरुआत होती है।

भारत सरकार ने 20 दिसंबर 2023 को छह नेक्स्ट जनरेशन ऑफशोर पेट्रोल वेसल के निर्माण का अनुबंध किया था। इस परियोजना का उद्देश्य भारतीय तटरक्षक बल को नई पीढ़ी के ऐसे जहाज प्रदान करना है जो आधुनिक तकनीकों से लैस हों और बदलती समुद्री चुनौतियों का प्रभावी ढंग से सामना कर सकें।
हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में बढ़ती सामरिक प्रतिस्पर्धा, समुद्री आतंकवाद, अवैध मछली पकड़ने, तस्करी, मानव तस्करी और समुद्री प्रदूषण जैसी चुनौतियों के बीच इन जहाजों की भूमिका अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण होने वाली है। ये प्लेटफॉर्म भारत के विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र (EEZ) तथा समुद्री सीमाओं की सुरक्षा को और अधिक सुदृढ़ बनाएंगे।
