Lt Gen Rajiv K Sahni, AVSM, VSM, PhD, Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DG EME) and Colonel Commandant, visited Headquarters Southern Command, EME units, the Artificial Limb Centre, and leading defence industries in Pune.

During the visit, the senior officer reviewed operational and technical initiatives across EME establishments and commended the EME units of Southern Command for maintaining high mission reliability of combat-critical equipment. He appreciated the robust and well-planned sustenance initiatives that have ensured operational readiness across formations.

Lt Gen Sahni lauded the development of an in-house ecosystem for the mass production of drones within Southern Command, describing it as a significant achievement reflecting the innovative mindset of EME personnel. He praised the growing culture of innovation aimed at addressing emerging battlefield requirements through indigenous solutions.

The DG EME also appreciated the rapid absorption of additive manufacturing, robotics, and cobotics into operational workflows by Southern Command. He noted that the effective integration of these advanced technologies is reinforcing the Indian Army’s drive towards technological self-reliance and accelerated modernisation.
