Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan: In a significant joint security operation along the India-Pakistan international border in Rajasthan, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Border Security Force (BSF) and other security and intelligence agencies have recovered a consignment of weapons, ammunition and suspected explosive material believed to have been dropped by a drone originating from across the border. Two suspects from Punjab have reportedly been arrested in connection with the case, as investigators intensify efforts to establish the origin of the consignment, its intended recipients and the possible involvement of a wider cross-border network.

The operation was conducted in the Rawla sector of Sri Ganganagar district, with the reported recovery location identified near Khanuwali Border Outpost, in the vicinity of Chak 4 KNM and the W-Tail area. According to preliminary information, security personnel received inputs regarding three packets allegedly dropped by a drone from the Pakistani side. Acting on intelligence inputs and suspicious activity in the area, the security agencies launched a coordinated search operation that led to the recovery of the consignments.

The operation involved the Bikaner Range ANTF team, BSF personnel from the 140th Battalion and the BSF’s G Branch intelligence unit. Rajasthan Police and other specialised agencies, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), have also been reported to be involved in the investigation. ANTF Inspector General Vikas Kumar has shared information regarding the operation.

The recovered consignment reportedly included two Zigana pistols, four magazines and approximately 650 rounds of ammunition. Preliminary information indicates that the pistols carried “Made in Turkey” markings, although their precise origin and authenticity would require independent verification. Investigators are examining the weapons and ammunition to determine their provenance and whether they can be linked to any previous cases.

Approximately seven kilograms of suspected explosive material were also reportedly recovered. Initial inputs have raised the possibility that the material could be RDX; however, its actual chemical composition has not yet been officially established. The material will need to undergo forensic examination before its identity can be confirmed. Four pairs of pencil cells and two remote-control devices were also reportedly found among the recovered items. Investigators are examining whether these components are connected to the suspected explosive material and whether they have any operational significance.

Two young men from Punjab have reportedly been arrested in connection with the case. They have been identified in preliminary reports as Lakhwinder Singh, 19, from Ferozepur, and Sukhwinder Singh, 19, from Jalandhar. Their alleged roles, the circumstances of their presence in the area and their possible links to the recovered consignment are under investigation. The allegations against them will need to be established through the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.

According to information attributed to ANTF IG Vikas Kumar, security agencies had reportedly been monitoring a suspicious network for approximately a month before the operation. The intelligence inputs are understood to have contributed to the surveillance of suspected activities in the border region. The precise sequence of events leading to the interception, including the role of individual agencies, remains subject to official clarification.

A bomb disposal squad from Bikaner was reportedly called to examine the suspected explosive material. The specialist assessment is expected to help determine the nature of the recovered substance and the potential role of the batteries and remote-control devices found with the consignment. Security agencies are also examining whether the three packets were part of a single delivery and whether the drone was used solely to transport the material or as part of a more extensive operation.

The investigation is now focused on establishing who arranged the delivery, who was expected to collect the weapons and suspected explosives, and whether the arrested individuals had contact with handlers operating across the international border. Investigators are also expected to examine communications, movement patterns and other available evidence to identify possible associates and determine the intended destination of the consignment.

The recovery has once again highlighted the security challenges posed by the use of unmanned aerial vehicles to transport weapons and other prohibited material across the India-Pakistan border. Small drones can potentially deliver consignments without requiring a conventional physical crossing, making intelligence-led surveillance, coordination between border forces and specialised investigative agencies particularly important.

The contribution of the BSF’s 140th Battalion and its G Branch intelligence unit, alongside the ANTF team operating under the Bikaner Range, has been identified as a significant element of the operation. Coordination with Rajasthan Police, CID, ATS and the bomb disposal squad is also expected to support the technical examination of the seized material and the investigation into the alleged network.

However, several critical questions remain unanswered. The precise route taken by the drone, the identity of its operator, the intended recipients of the consignment and the confirmed composition of the suspected explosive material have not yet been conclusively established in the information available. The possibility of a wider organised network is being investigated, but its existence and the extent of any cross-border links must be established through evidence.

With two suspects reportedly in custody and the recovered weapons, ammunition and suspected explosives undergoing examination, the case has become a significant focus for security agencies in Rajasthan’s border region. Further details are expected to emerge as questioning, forensic analysis and follow-up searches progress.

The immediate priority for investigators is to establish the provenance of the weapons, confirm the identity of the suspected explosive material and determine whether the consignment was part of a larger cross-border operation. Until the forensic findings and official investigation establish these facts, the nature of the suspected explosive substance and the full extent of the alleged network remain unconfirmed.
