Karachi, May 29, 2025 – In a development that has sparked widespread criticism of Pakistan’s civil aviation and public infrastructure, noted Pakistani actor and social commentator Hina Khawaja Bayat expressed her dismay on social media over the appalling state of washroom facilities at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport — one of the busiest airports in Pakistan.
Bayat, who is known for her candid voice on civic and social issues in the country, took to social media to highlight that there was no water in the washrooms at the airport, an issue that left many travellers inconvenienced and outraged.
“There wasn’t a drop of water…”
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Bayat wrote:
“There wasn’t a drop of water in the washroom at Karachi International Airport. A fellow passenger asked, ‘How do we wash our hands?’ – the janitor replied, ‘Sir, just wipe your hands!’ THIS is the state of international airport facilities in Pakistan.”
The revelation has led to widespread embarrassment on social platforms as many citizens and travellers corroborated similar experiences from other Pakistani airports, especially in Karachi and Lahore. Several commenters raised concerns about public hygiene, basic maintenance, and the national image projected by such a flagship international facility.
Water Crisis or Management Failure?
While it is true that Pakistan is experiencing a growing water crisis, many critics argue that the situation at the airport reflects more of a management failure than a true shortage of water. Karachi, a city of over 20 million people, has long suffered from infrastructural decay, water theft, and chronic mismanagement of civic amenities.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the incident. However, this public exposure by a national celebrity has intensified pressure on airport and municipal authorities to urgently rectify the basic services and maintain international standards, particularly with a surge in air travel expected in the summer holiday season.
Global Reactions and National Humiliation
The matter also caught the attention of several international travellers and social media users from abroad who raised concerns over Pakistan’s ability to handle foreign tourists, investors, and diaspora arrivals if even basic sanitation cannot be guaranteed at its primary international gateway.
This embarrassment follows a string of recent public complaints over poor maintenance in public buildings, power outages, and water scarcity in major Pakistani cities. For many, Hina Bayat’s post has become a rallying cry for accountability and reform.

कराची, 29 मई 2025 – पाकिस्तान की मशहूर अभिनेत्री और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता हिना खवाजा बैयत ने कराची के जिन्ना इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट पर वॉशरूम में पानी न होने को लेकर सोशल मीडिया पर गहरी नाराज़गी ज़ाहिर की है। उन्होंने इस स्थिति को पाकिस्तान के बुनियादी ढांचे की शर्मनाक स्थिति करार दिया।
“एक बूंद पानी नहीं था…”
हिना बैयत ने अपने पोस्ट में लिखा:
“कराची इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट के वॉशरूम में एक बूंद पानी नहीं था। एक यात्री ने पूछा – ‘हाथ कैसे धोएं?’ सफाईकर्मी ने जवाब दिया – ‘सर, हाथ बस पोंछ लीजिए!’ क्या यही है अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे की व्यवस्था?”
उनके इस पोस्ट के बाद सोशल मीडिया पर हज़ारों लोगों ने अपनी नाराज़गी ज़ाहिर की। कई लोगों ने बताया कि कराची और लाहौर जैसे बड़े हवाई अड्डों पर भी ऐसी समस्याएं आम हैं। यह सवाल उठने लगा है कि क्या पाकिस्तान अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर की बुनियादी सुविधाएं देने में भी नाकाम होता जा रहा है?
पानी की किल्लत या प्रशासनिक लापरवाही?

पाकिस्तान सिविल एविएशन अथॉरिटी (CAA) की ओर से इस मामले में अब तक कोई आधिकारिक बयान नहीं आया है। लेकिन हिना बैयत जैसी हस्ती के सार्वजनिक रूप से इस मुद्दे को उठाने से प्रशासन पर फौरन सुधारात्मक कदम उठाने का दबाव बना है।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय छवि पर धब्बा
इस घटना ने पाकिस्तान की वैश्विक छवि पर भी सवालिया निशान खड़े कर दिए हैं। विदेशी यात्री और पाकिस्तानी प्रवासी सोशल मीडिया पर पूछ रहे हैं कि जब देश के सबसे प्रमुख अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर भी साफ-सफाई और पानी जैसी मूलभूत सुविधा नहीं है, तो पर्यटकों और निवेशकों को पाकिस्तान कैसे आकर्षित करेगा?
यह घटना ऐसे समय सामने आई है जब देश पहले ही बिजली कटौती, गर्मी से राहत केंद्रों की कमी और पानी की भारी किल्लत जैसे मुद्दों से जूझ रहा है। हिना बैयत का यह पोस्ट अब बुनियादी ढांचे में सुधार और जवाबदेही की मांग का प्रतीक बन गया है।
