JAIPUR / BIKANER: 29 February 2024, two Rotary clubs from Bikaner, Rajasthan, India, launched a new project to raise awareness and prevent suicide in the community. The project, titled “Prevent Suicide”, aims to provide education, counselling, and support to people who are struggling with mental health issues or suicidal thoughts.
The launch of poster of the project was unveiled by Sh. Om Prakash Paswan, the Inspector General of Police of Bikaner Range. He appreciated the initiative of the Rotary clubs and urged them to work closely with the police and other stakeholders to address the problem of suicide, which is the second leading cause of death among 15- to 29-year-olds globally1.
The president of Rotary Aadhya, Maya Chandak, and the secretary Sheela Sankhla, spoke about the objectives and activities of the project, which include conducting workshops, seminars, and camps in schools, colleges, and other institutions to educate people about the signs, causes, and prevention of suicide; training volunteers and professionals to provide crisis intervention and counselling to those in need; and creating a helpline and a network of support groups to offer emotional and practical assistance to people at risk of suicide.

The launch event was attended by Rahul Maheshwari (Assistant governor) Ashish Kothari and Shakil Ahmed from Rotary Marudhara.

The project is expected to benefit about 10,000 people directly and indirectly, and to create a positive impact on the mental health and well-being of the society.
