Indian Army’s Silent Revolution: Bhairav and Ashni Battalions Redefine Warfare with Drones, Technology and Desert Power
The Indian Army is in the midst of a profound and carefully planned transformation, one that is quietly but decisively reshaping the future of warfare. From the scorching deserts of Rajasthan to other sensitive theatres, the Army is restructuring its combat formations to meet the demands of modern, hybrid, technology-driven conflicts. Central to this transformation is the creation of a massive pool of over one lakh trained drone operatives, along with the raising of new-age specialized battalions such as Bhairav and Ashni, designed specifically for contemporary and future battlefields.
Nasirabad in Rajasthan has emerged as one of the key hubs of this transformation, where doctrine, technology, and soldiering are being fused into a new combat philosophy.
Modern Warfare and the Birth of a New Combat Doctrine
Senior commanders associated with the newly raised Bhairav Battalions underline that warfare today has fundamentally changed. Conflicts are no longer limited to tank battles or infantry advances. Instead, modern wars are hybrid in nature, involving drones, precision strikes, electronic warfare, cyber capabilities, intelligence dominance, and rapid maneuver forces.
A commanding officer of 2 Bhairav Battalion explains that the pace of change is relentless. To survive and succeed, armies must be technologically empowered and mentally agile. The Bhairav Battalions were raised as part of a larger force restructuring exercise, aligned with new operational requirements, modern technology, and a reimagined military thought process. These units are designed to be fast, lethal, tech-enabled, and adaptable across terrains.
One Lakh Drone Operatives: India’s New Invisible Army
One of the most significant steps taken by the Indian Army is the creation of a force-wide pool of more than one lakh drone-trained soldiers. These operatives are spread across infantry, armoured, artillery, air defence, and special formations — including Bhairav and Ashni battalions.
These soldiers are trained to operate drones for surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition, real-time battlefield intelligence, and offensive missions. In real operational scenarios, drones are now being used to identify enemy bases, track hostile formations, guide precision strikes, and dominate the information battlefield. This has fundamentally altered how commanders visualize and fight wars, giving the Army unmatched situational awareness and tactical flexibility.
Bhairav Battalion: History, Identity and Purpose
The Bhairav Battalion draws its name and spirit from the fierce, warrior ethos deeply rooted in Indian tradition. Conceptualized in recent years as part of the Army’s modernization drive, Bhairav units were raised to bridge the gap between conventional infantry and highly specialized forces.
These battalions are structured to operate independently or as force multipliers during high-intensity conflicts. Soldiers inducted into Bhairav formations undergo some of the toughest training regimes in the Army. An officer serving in the battalion describes the experience as transformational — involving training in advanced weapons, drone warfare, battlefield medicine, demolitions, secure communications, and multi-domain operations.
The emphasis is on creating soldiers who think, adapt, and strike faster than the enemy.
Rajasthan as the Core Operational Theatre for Bhairav Battalion
Rajasthan holds immense strategic importance due to its long international border, vast desert terrain, and proximity to sensitive sectors. Bhairav Battalions are specifically trained to operate across multiple regions of Rajasthan, including:
- The western desert sector along the India–Pakistan border
- Areas stretching from Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner to Sri Ganganagar
- Forward desert zones requiring rapid mobility, stealth, and surveillance
The terrain allows Bhairav units to perfect desert warfare, long-range patrols, drone-assisted operations, and swift offensive maneuvers. Their ability to operate in extreme heat, low visibility, and vast open spaces makes them ideal for deployment in Rajasthan’s desert belt during both peacetime surveillance and wartime missions.
Ashni Battalion: The Strike and Shock Element
Alongside Bhairav, the Ashni Battalion represents another crucial pillar of the Army’s restructuring. While Bhairav units focus on adaptability and multi-role operations, Ashni battalions are conceptualized as high-impact strike formations, designed for rapid offensive tasks and shock action.
Ashni units emphasize speed, aggression, and precision, supported heavily by drones, modern assault weapons, and integrated intelligence inputs. In future conflict scenarios, Ashni battalions are expected to spearhead swift penetration operations, neutralize high-value targets, and disrupt enemy command-and-control structures.
Together, Bhairav and Ashni battalions complement each other — one providing flexibility and endurance, the other delivering speed and decisive force.
Desert Sector Training and Team-Centric Warfare
Bhairav Special Forces operatives deployed in the Rajasthan desert sector describe intense training cycles focused on teamwork and trust. Operating in extreme climatic conditions, soldiers train with new-generation weapons and technologies tailored for fast-moving missions.
A Bhairav operative proudly states that the battalion has given its soldiers a new identity and confidence. The “Bhairav” name is not symbolic alone — it represents discipline, fearlessness, and unity. The battalion’s greatest strength, according to its soldiers, is that it fights as one cohesive team, prepared to face any challenge.
From Nasirabad to the Future Battlefield
What makes this transformation truly significant is that training is not theoretical. Drone operatives and special battalions are trained in realistic operational environments, ensuring immediate battlefield readiness. The integration of drones into daily exercises has improved coordination between ground forces, intelligence units, and strike elements.
Nasirabad has thus become more than a training location — it is emerging as a laboratory for the Indian Army’s future warfighting doctrine.
A Clear Message to Adversaries
The raising of Bhairav and Ashni battalions, combined with the training of one lakh drone operatives, sends an unmistakable signal. The Indian Army is not reacting to future threats — it is preparing in advance to dominate them.
From Rajasthan’s deserts to future multi-domain battlefields, India’s soldiers are being equipped not just with weapons, but with technology, trust, and tactical superiority. As Bhairav warriors declare themselves ready for any situation, the message is clear: India’s Army is future-ready, force-structured, and unyielding in its resolve.

भारतीय सेना इतिहास के उस निर्णायक मोड़ पर खड़ी है, जहां युद्ध की परिभाषा, साधन और सोच—तीनों एक साथ बदल रहे हैं। यह अब केवल बंदूक और सीमा की लड़ाई नहीं रही, बल्कि तकनीक, सूचना, गति और सटीकता की जंग बन चुकी है। इसी बदली हुई युद्ध-भूमिका को समझते हुए भारतीय सेना ने न केवल अपनी रणनीति में बदलाव किया है, बल्कि अपनी संरचना को भी नए सिरे से गढ़ा है। राजस्थान की धरती, विशेष रूप से नसीराबाद, बीकानेर और पश्चिमी मरुस्थलीय बेल्ट, आज इस ऐतिहासिक सैन्य परिवर्तन का केंद्र बन चुकी है।
हाइब्रिड वॉरफेयर: जब युद्ध अदृश्य भी होता है और घातक भी
आज के संघर्ष पारंपरिक युद्ध से कहीं आगे निकल चुके हैं। हाइब्रिड वॉरफेयर में दुश्मन सामने खड़ा हो, यह ज़रूरी नहीं। ड्रोन, साइबर अटैक, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक जामिंग, सटीक मिसाइल स्ट्राइक और सूचना युद्ध—ये सभी आधुनिक जंग के हथियार हैं। भारतीय सेना के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के अनुसार, भविष्य की लड़ाइयाँ अचानक होंगी, तेज़ होंगी और तकनीक-आधारित होंगी। ऐसे में सेना को ऐसे जवान चाहिए जो सिर्फ़ लड़ना नहीं, बल्कि तकनीक को युद्ध में बदलना जानते हों।
इसी सोच से जन्म हुआ भैरव और अशनि बटालियन का।
नसीराबाद: जहां भारतीय सेना का भविष्य आकार ले रहा है
राजस्थान का नसीराबाद आज केवल एक सैन्य प्रशिक्षण क्षेत्र नहीं है। यह वह स्थान है जहां भारतीय सेना अपने भविष्य के युद्ध सिद्धांतों को ज़मीन पर उतार रही है। यहीं पर जवानों को ड्रोन वॉरफेयर, मल्टी-डोमेन ऑपरेशन्स, नेटवर्क-सेंट्रिक वारफेयर और हाई-टेक हथियार प्रणालियों में प्रशिक्षित किया जा रहा है। सेना के अनुसार, भैरव बटालियन का गठन इसी व्यापक पुनर्संरचना का हिस्सा है, जो आने वाले दशकों की युद्ध आवश्यकताओं को ध्यान में रखकर की गई है।
एक लाख ड्रोन ऑपरेटिव्स: भारतीय सेना की सबसे बड़ी तकनीकी छलांग
भारतीय सेना द्वारा तैयार किया गया एक लाख से अधिक ड्रोन ऑपरेटिव्स का पूल अपने आप में एक रणनीतिक क्रांति है। ये ऑपरेटिव्स पैदल सेना, बख़्तरबंद इकाइयों, तोपख़ाने और विशेष बलों के साथ एकीकृत रूप से काम करते हैं। ड्रोन अब केवल निगरानी उपकरण नहीं रहे, बल्कि वे दुश्मन के ठिकानों की पहचान, सीमा पार गतिविधियों की निगरानी, रियल-टाइम इंटेलिजेंस और सटीक हमलों में अहम भूमिका निभा रहे हैं।
रेगिस्तान जैसे खुले और विशाल क्षेत्र में ड्रोन भारतीय सेना को वह बढ़त देते हैं, जो पहले संभव नहीं थी। दुश्मन की हर गतिविधि पर नज़र, बिना सैनिकों को जोखिम में डाले—यही इस नई क्षमता की सबसे बड़ी ताकत है।
भैरव बटालियन: इतिहास, नाम और उद्देश्य
भैरव बटालियन का नाम भारतीय परंपरा के उस योद्धा स्वरूप से लिया गया है, जो निर्भीक, आक्रामक और निर्णायक होता है। यह बटालियन पारंपरिक इन्फैंट्री से आगे बढ़कर एक हाइब्रिड फोर्स के रूप में विकसित की गई है। इसके जवानों को आधुनिक हथियारों के साथ-साथ ड्रोन संचालन, मेडिकल इमरजेंसी, विस्फोटक निपटान, कम्युनिकेशन और डिजिटल युद्ध कौशल में प्रशिक्षित किया जाता है।
भैरव बटालियन का उद्देश्य साफ़ है—ऐसे सैनिक तैयार करना जो सीमित संसाधनों में भी अधिकतम प्रभाव पैदा कर सकें और किसी भी परिस्थिति में तेज़ी से निर्णय लेकर कार्रवाई कर सकें।
राजस्थान का मरुस्थल: भैरव की असली परीक्षा भूमि
राजस्थान का पश्चिमी हिस्सा भारत की सामरिक सुरक्षा में अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। भैरव बटालियन को विशेष रूप से बीकानेर, जैसलमेर, बाड़मेर, श्रीगंगानगर, हनुमानगढ़, चूरू, नागौर, जोधपुर, फलोदी और अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा से सटे इलाकों में ऑपरेशन के लिए तैयार किया गया है। यह क्षेत्र केवल भौगोलिक चुनौती नहीं, बल्कि रणनीतिक दृष्टि से भी अत्यंत संवेदनशील है।
रेगिस्तान में अत्यधिक गर्मी, लंबी दूरी और सीमित संसाधनों के बीच ऑपरेशन करना आसान नहीं होता। लेकिन यही कठिन परिस्थितियाँ भैरव बटालियन को और घातक बनाती हैं। ड्रोन के साथ संयुक्त ऑपरेशन इन जवानों को दुश्मन से एक कदम आगे रखते हैं।
अशनि बटालियन: बिजली की गति से हमला
जहां भैरव बटालियन लचीलापन और बहु-क्षमता का प्रतीक है, वहीं अशनि बटालियन भारतीय सेना की शॉक और स्ट्राइक शक्ति है। ‘अशनि’ यानी बिजली—तेज़, अचानक और विनाशकारी। यह बटालियन तेज़ हमलों, दुश्मन की अग्रिम रक्षा को तोड़ने और निर्णायक क्षणों में युद्ध का रुख बदलने के लिए बनाई गई है।
भविष्य के युद्धों में अशनि बटालियन, ड्रोन और इंटेलिजेंस सपोर्ट के साथ, दुश्मन के कमांड सेंटर और हाई-वैल्यू टारगेट्स पर त्वरित कार्रवाई करेगी।
टीमवर्क, भरोसा और नई सैन्य संस्कृति
भैरव और अशनि दोनों बटालियनों में सबसे ज़्यादा ज़ोर टीमवर्क पर दिया गया है। जवानों के अनुसार, नई पहचान और कठोर प्रशिक्षण ने उनमें आत्मविश्वास और आपसी भरोसा पैदा किया है। रेगिस्तान में तैनात भैरव स्पेशल फोर्स के जवान खुद को ‘राजस्थान के शेर’ मानते हैं—ऐसे शेर, जो तकनीक से लैस हैं और हर चुनौती के लिए तैयार हैं।
दुश्मनों के लिए स्पष्ट और सख़्त संदेश
एक लाख ड्रोन ऑपरेटिव्स, भैरव और अशनि जैसी विशेष बटालियनों का गठन और राजस्थान के पूरे मरुस्थलीय बेल्ट में उनकी तैयारी—यह सब एक साफ़ संदेश देता है। भारतीय सेना आने वाली जंगों का इंतज़ार नहीं कर रही, बल्कि उनसे पहले खुद को तैयार कर चुकी है।
रेगिस्तान से लेकर भविष्य के हाई-टेक युद्धक्षेत्रों तक, भारतीय सेना ने यह साबित कर दिया है कि वह केवल इतिहास की रक्षक नहीं, बल्कि भविष्य की निर्माता भी है।
