Surg VAdm Vivek Hande Visits Pune, Reviews Premier Military Healthcare Institutions and Interacts with AFMS Personnel

In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening military healthcare, personnel welfare and medical education, Surgeon Vice Admiral Vivek Hande, Director General (Organisation & Personnel), Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), Office of the DGAFMS, visited Pune on 6–7 August 2026. During the two-day visit, he reviewed key military medical institutions, interacted with officers and delivered lectures on human resource policies and organisational initiatives undertaken by the Office of the DGAFMS.
The visit began with interactions at the Headquarters Southern Command, where Surgeon Vice Admiral Hande met senior military officers and medical personnel to discuss organisational priorities, healthcare delivery mechanisms and the future roadmap for strengthening the Armed Forces Medical Services. The discussions focused on enhancing operational medical support, improving personnel management and ensuring world-class healthcare for serving soldiers, veterans and their families.
As part of the visit, the senior officer conducted a comprehensive review of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, one of India’s premier military medical institutions. He assessed ongoing academic activities, medical training programmes, research initiatives and institutional development aimed at producing highly skilled military doctors capable of serving in diverse operational environments.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Hande also visited the Command Hospital (Southern Command), where he reviewed advanced healthcare infrastructure, specialised medical services and patient care facilities. He interacted with doctors, nursing officers and healthcare professionals, appreciating their dedication in delivering high-quality medical treatment while supporting the operational readiness of the Armed Forces.
Another important stop during the visit was the Artificial Limb Centre, a premier rehabilitation institution providing prosthetic and rehabilitation services to injured military personnel and veterans. He reviewed rehabilitation programmes, modern prosthetic technologies and patient support systems, emphasising the importance of comprehensive rehabilitation in restoring the quality of life and operational confidence of injured soldiers.
During his interactions with officers and medical professionals, Surgeon Vice Admiral Hande delivered detailed lectures on Human Resource policies and various organisational initiatives being implemented by the Office of the DGAFMS. He highlighted ongoing reforms focused on professional development, career progression, personnel welfare, training opportunities and improving organisational efficiency across the Armed Forces Medical Services.
He reaffirmed AFMS’ unwavering commitment to excellence in military medicine, medical education, research, healthcare innovation and quality patient care. Stressing the importance of continuous learning and institutional excellence, he encouraged medical professionals to adopt modern technologies, evidence-based clinical practices and innovative healthcare solutions to meet the evolving needs of the Armed Forces.
The visit also reinforced the crucial role played by AFMS in maintaining the health, operational readiness and combat effectiveness of the Army, Navy and Air Force. By combining world-class medical education, advanced healthcare infrastructure and dedicated personnel, the Armed Forces Medical Services continue to remain one of India’s most respected military healthcare organisations.

सशस्त्र बल चिकित्सा सेवा (Armed Forces Medical Services–AFMS) को और अधिक सुदृढ़ बनाने, चिकित्सा शिक्षा, सैन्य स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं तथा कार्मिक कल्याण को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से महानिदेशक (ऑर्गेनाइजेशन एवं पर्सोनल) AFMS, सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल विवेक हांडे ने 6–7 अगस्त 2026 को पुणे का दो दिवसीय दौरा किया। इस दौरान उन्होंने मुख्यालय दक्षिणी कमान (HQ Southern Command) के अधिकारियों से मुलाकात की, देश की प्रमुख सैन्य चिकित्सा संस्थाओं का निरीक्षण किया तथा मानव संसाधन (HR) नीतियों और DGAFMS कार्यालय की नई पहलों पर विस्तृत व्याख्यान भी दिए।
दौरे की शुरुआत मुख्यालय दक्षिणी कमान में वरिष्ठ सैन्य अधिकारियों एवं चिकित्सा अधिकारियों के साथ बैठक से हुई। इस दौरान सैन्य चिकित्सा सेवाओं को और अधिक प्रभावी बनाने, परिचालन चिकित्सा सहायता (Operational Medical Support), कार्मिक प्रबंधन तथा सैनिकों, पूर्व सैनिकों एवं उनके परिवारों को बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराने से जुड़े विभिन्न विषयों पर विस्तार से चर्चा हुई।
इसके बाद सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल विवेक हांडे ने आर्म्ड फोर्सेज मेडिकल कॉलेज (AFMC), पुणे का दौरा किया। उन्होंने देश के इस प्रतिष्ठित सैन्य चिकित्सा संस्थान में चल रहे शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रमों, चिकित्सा प्रशिक्षण, अनुसंधान गतिविधियों तथा संस्थागत विकास की समीक्षा की। उन्होंने भविष्य के सैन्य चिकित्सकों को आधुनिक चिकित्सा विज्ञान, अनुसंधान और युद्धक्षेत्र चिकित्सा (Battlefield Medicine) के अनुरूप प्रशिक्षित करने की आवश्यकता पर विशेष बल दिया।
दौरे के दौरान उन्होंने कमांड हॉस्पिटल (सदर्न कमांड) का भी निरीक्षण किया, जहां उन्होंने अस्पताल की आधुनिक चिकित्सा सुविधाओं, विशेषज्ञ उपचार सेवाओं, रोगी देखभाल प्रणाली तथा चिकित्सा अवसंरचना का जायजा लिया। उन्होंने डॉक्टरों, नर्सिंग अधिकारियों और अन्य स्वास्थ्य कर्मियों से बातचीत करते हुए कठिन परिस्थितियों में भी उत्कृष्ट चिकित्सा सेवाएं प्रदान करने के उनके समर्पण की सराहना की।
सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल हांडे ने आर्टिफिशियल लिम्ब सेंटर का भी दौरा किया, जो घायल सैनिकों और पूर्व सैनिकों के पुनर्वास के लिए देश के प्रमुख संस्थानों में से एक है। यहां उन्होंने आधुनिक कृत्रिम अंग (Prosthetics), पुनर्वास कार्यक्रमों और रोगी सहायता सेवाओं की समीक्षा की। उन्होंने कहा कि युद्ध या ड्यूटी के दौरान घायल हुए सैनिकों को आधुनिक पुनर्वास सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराना AFMS की सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकताओं में शामिल है, ताकि वे सम्मानजनक और आत्मनिर्भर जीवन जी सकें।
अपने दौरे के दौरान उन्होंने अधिकारियों और चिकित्सा कर्मियों को मानव संसाधन (HR) नीतियों, कैरियर विकास, प्रशिक्षण अवसरों, कार्मिक कल्याण योजनाओं तथा DGAFMS कार्यालय द्वारा लागू की जा रही विभिन्न सुधारात्मक पहलों पर विस्तृत व्याख्यान भी दिए। उन्होंने चिकित्सा अधिकारियों को आधुनिक तकनीकों, डिजिटल स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं, अनुसंधान आधारित उपचार और निरंतर पेशेवर विकास को अपनाने के लिए प्रेरित किया।
सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल विवेक हांडे ने दोहराया कि सशस्त्र बल चिकित्सा सेवा भारतीय सेना, नौसेना और वायु सेना को विश्वस्तरीय चिकित्सा सेवाएं प्रदान करने, चिकित्सा शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने, सैनिकों के कल्याण को सुनिश्चित करने तथा सैन्य चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में उत्कृष्टता बनाए रखने के लिए पूर्णतः प्रतिबद्ध है। उन्होंने कहा कि आधुनिक सैन्य अभियानों में चिकित्सा सेवाओं की भूमिका अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है और AFMS निरंतर नवाचार, अनुसंधान तथा उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं के माध्यम से देश की रक्षा तैयारियों को मजबूत बना रहा है।
पुणे का यह दौरा सैन्य चिकित्सा संस्थानों की क्षमताओं को और अधिक सुदृढ़ करने, चिकित्सा शिक्षा को नई दिशा देने, कार्मिक कल्याण को बढ़ावा देने तथा भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों के लिए उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं को सुनिश्चित करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम माना जा रहा है।
