Surgeon Rear Admiral Jandhyala Sridhar Takes Charge as Command Medical Officer at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command

Surgeon Rear Admiral Jandhyala Sridhar assumed charge as the Command Medical Officer (CMO), Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, on 1 October 2026, taking over an important medical leadership responsibility within the Indian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command.

Commissioned into the Indian Navy on 30 June 1993, Surgeon Rear Admiral Jandhyala Sridhar brings more than three decades of distinguished naval medical service to his new appointment. He is an alumnus of Timpany School, Visakhapatnam, and the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, one of India’s premier institutions for military medical education.

A specialist in Dermatology, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar has built a career combining clinical medicine, military healthcare administration, medical education and leadership within the Armed Forces medical services. His long experience spans operational naval medical establishments as well as senior academic and advisory appointments.

During his career, he has held several key positions across the Navy’s medical establishment. One of his significant assignments was as Commanding Officer of INHS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The period presented an unprecedented challenge to military healthcare systems, requiring medical establishments to maintain essential healthcare services while simultaneously responding to the demands created by the pandemic.

His experience also includes serving as Director and Dean of the Institute of Naval Medicine, INHS Asvini, Mumbai. The Institute of Naval Medicine is a key centre within the Indian Navy’s medical ecosystem and is associated with specialised military medical training, research and professional development.

Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar has also served as Senior Advisor at INHS Asvini and INHS Sanjivani, gaining extensive experience in senior-level clinical and medical advisory responsibilities. Prior to assuming his present appointment, he served as Consultant Dermatology at Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Kolkata.

Apart from his clinical and administrative responsibilities, the Flag Officer has made significant contributions to medical education and postgraduate training. He has served as a postgraduate examiner for Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and AIIMS, reflecting his continued involvement in professional medical education and assessment.

As Command Medical Officer at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar will be responsible for providing senior medical leadership and advice within the Command’s healthcare framework. The appointment encompasses medical readiness, healthcare administration and the provision of professional medical guidance in support of naval personnel.

The Eastern Naval Command, headquartered in Visakhapatnam, is one of the Indian Navy’s major operational commands and has responsibility for maritime operations along India’s eastern seaboard and associated areas. Its medical infrastructure plays an important role in maintaining the health, wellbeing and operational readiness of personnel serving across ships, establishments and operational units.

The appointment also brings together Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar’s experience in naval healthcare, clinical specialisation, medical education and senior medical administration. His career across establishments including INHS Kalyani, the Institute of Naval Medicine, INHS Asvini, INHS Sanjivani and Command Hospital (Eastern Command) has provided him with experience across different dimensions of military medicine.

With more than 30 years of service since his commissioning in 1993, Surgeon Rear Admiral Jandhyala Sridhar now takes charge of the medical leadership role at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, contributing his extensive clinical and administrative experience towards sustaining the Navy’s medical preparedness and healthcare support system.

सर्जन रियर एडमिरल जंध्याला श्रीधर ने 1 अक्टूबर 2026 को मुख्यालय पूर्वी नौसेना कमान (Headquarters Eastern Naval Command) में कमांड मेडिकल ऑफिसर (CMO) के रूप में पदभार संभाल लिया। भारतीय नौसेना की पूर्वी कमान में चिकित्सा व्यवस्था और मेडिकल रेडीनेस से जुड़ी यह एक महत्वपूर्ण वरिष्ठ जिम्मेदारी है।

सर्जन रियर एडमिरल जंध्याला श्रीधर को 30 जून 1993 को भारतीय नौसेना में कमीशन मिला था। तीन दशकों से अधिक लंबे अपने सैन्य चिकित्सा करियर में उन्होंने क्लिनिकल मेडिसिन, सैन्य स्वास्थ्य प्रशासन, मेडिकल एजुकेशन और वरिष्ठ चिकित्सा नेतृत्व के विभिन्न महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर कार्य किया है।

वे विशाखापत्तनम के टिम्पनी स्कूल (Timpany School) और आर्म्ड फोर्सेज मेडिकल कॉलेज (AFMC), पुणे के पूर्व छात्र हैं। उन्होंने डर्मेटोलॉजी (त्वचा रोग विशेषज्ञ) के रूप में विशेषज्ञता हासिल की है और लंबे समय से भारतीय नौसेना की चिकित्सा सेवाओं में विशेषज्ञ चिकित्सक तथा वरिष्ठ अधिकारी के रूप में योगदान दिया है।

उनके करियर में कई महत्वपूर्ण मेडिकल कमांड और प्रशासनिक नियुक्तियां रही हैं। उन्होंने COVID-19 महामारी के दौरान विशाखापत्तनम स्थित INHS Kalyani के Commanding Officer के रूप में भी जिम्मेदारी संभाली। कोरोना महामारी के दौरान सैन्य अस्पतालों के सामने सामान्य चिकित्सा सेवाओं को जारी रखने के साथ-साथ महामारी से उत्पन्न चिकित्सा आवश्यकताओं से निपटने की बड़ी चुनौती थी।

सर्जन रियर एडमिरल श्रीधर ने मुंबई स्थित Institute of Naval Medicine, INHS Asvini में Director और Dean के रूप में भी सेवाएं दी हैं। इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ नेवल मेडिसिन भारतीय नौसेना की मेडिकल व्यवस्था का एक महत्वपूर्ण संस्थान है, जहां सैन्य चिकित्सा से जुड़े प्रशिक्षण, विशेषज्ञता, अनुसंधान और प्रोफेशनल डेवलपमेंट से संबंधित गतिविधियां संचालित होती हैं।

इसके अलावा वे INHS Asvini और INHS Sanjivani में Senior Advisor के पद पर भी कार्य कर चुके हैं। इन नियुक्तियों के दौरान उन्होंने वरिष्ठ स्तर पर क्लिनिकल और मेडिकल एडवाइजरी जिम्मेदारियां निभाईं।

अब कमांड मेडिकल ऑफिसर, पूर्वी नौसेना कमान के रूप में सर्जन रियर एडमिरल श्रीधर पूर्वी नौसेना कमान की मेडिकल व्यवस्था में वरिष्ठ चिकित्सा नेतृत्व प्रदान करेंगे। उनकी जिम्मेदारियों में मेडिकल रेडीनेस, सैन्य स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं का प्रशासन, चिकित्सा संबंधी पेशेवर सलाह और नौसैनिक कर्मियों के लिए स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं को प्रभावी बनाए रखना शामिल है।

विशाखापत्तनम मुख्यालय वाली पूर्वी नौसेना कमान भारतीय नौसेना की प्रमुख ऑपरेशनल कमानों में से एक है। यह भारत के पूर्वी समुद्री क्षेत्र में नौसैनिक गतिविधियों और ऑपरेशनल जिम्मेदारियों का महत्वपूर्ण केंद्र है। इस कमान के तहत तैनात जहाजों, नौसैनिक प्रतिष्ठानों और कर्मियों की मेडिकल सपोर्ट व्यवस्था उनकी ऑपरेशनल तैयारियों का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है।

सर्जन रियर एडमिरल श्रीधर का तीन दशक से अधिक का अनुभव उन्हें सैन्य चिकित्सा के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से जोड़ता है। INHS Kalyani, Institute of Naval Medicine, INHS Asvini, INHS Sanjivani और Command Hospital (Eastern Command) जैसे महत्वपूर्ण संस्थानों में उनकी सेवाओं ने उन्हें क्लिनिकल मेडिसिन से लेकर मेडिकल प्रशासन और शिक्षा तक व्यापक अनुभव प्रदान किया है।

1993 में भारतीय नौसेना में कमीशन प्राप्त करने के बाद तीन दशक से अधिक समय तक सैन्य चिकित्सा सेवा में योगदान देने वाले सर्जन रियर एडमिरल जंध्याला श्रीधर अब पूर्वी नौसेना कमान के कमांड मेडिकल ऑफिसर के रूप में नई जिम्मेदारी संभाल रहे हैं। उनके व्यापक क्लिनिकल, प्रशासनिक और मेडिकल एजुकेशन अनुभव से पूर्वी नौसेना कमान की मेडिकल रेडीनेस और हेल्थकेयर सपोर्ट व्यवस्था को वरिष्ठ स्तर का नेतृत्व मिलेगा।
