Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan Takes Charge as Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces)
New Delhi, September 2, 2026: Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan, VSM, assumed the appointment of Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) on September 1, 2026, taking charge of the key position responsible for overseeing and guiding hospital and medical services across the Armed Forces.
Born and educated in Chennai and Mumbai, Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan joined the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, in 1985 and completed his MBBS in 1989. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 26, 1989, beginning a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in military medicine.
During his service, Surgeon Vice Admiral Raghavan held several important medical and command appointments. These included Command Medical Officer, Southern Naval Command; Command Medical Officer, Eastern Naval Command; and Commanding Officer, INHS Asvini, Mumbai.
During his tenure as Commanding Officer of INHS Asvini, the prestigious naval hospital was awarded the Raksha Mantri Trophy for the Best Command Hospital, marking a significant achievement under his leadership.
Recognising his distinguished service and contribution to the Armed Forces Medical Services, Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) on January 26, 2026.
With his extensive experience in military healthcare, hospital administration, command responsibilities and medical services, his appointment as Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) comes at a significant level of responsibility for strengthening healthcare delivery and medical preparedness within the Armed Forces.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Raghavan is married to Dr Michelle Vas, a paediatrician specialising in Developmental Neurology. She is also an alumna of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and a former Short Service Commissioned Officer of the Indian Navy.

नई दिल्ली, 2 सितंबर 2026: भारतीय नौसेना के वरिष्ठ सैन्य चिकित्सक सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल दिलीप राघवन, VSM ने 1 सितंबर 2026 को डायरेक्टर जनरल हॉस्पिटल सर्विसेज (Armed Forces) का पदभार संभाल लिया। यह नियुक्ति सशस्त्र बलों की चिकित्सा एवं अस्पताल सेवाओं के लिए बेहद महत्वपूर्ण मानी जाती है।
चेन्नई और मुंबई में शिक्षा प्राप्त करने वाले सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल दिलीप राघवन ने वर्ष 1985 में आर्म्ड फोर्सेज मेडिकल कॉलेज (AFMC), पुणे में दाखिला लिया और 1989 में MBBS की पढ़ाई पूरी की। इसके बाद उन्होंने 26 दिसंबर 1989 को भारतीय नौसेना में कमीशन प्राप्त किया और सैन्य चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में अपने लंबे एवं प्रतिष्ठित करियर की शुरुआत की।
तीन दशक से अधिक लंबे अपने विशिष्ट सैन्य करियर के दौरान सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल राघवन ने कई महत्वपूर्ण चिकित्सा एवं कमान संबंधी जिम्मेदारियां संभालीं। इनमें कमांड मेडिकल ऑफिसर, सदर्न नेवल कमांड; कमांड मेडिकल ऑफिसर, ईस्टर्न नेवल कमांड और कमांडिंग ऑफिसर, INHS अस्विनी, मुंबई जैसे महत्वपूर्ण पद शामिल हैं।
INHS अस्विनी के कमांडिंग ऑफिसर के रूप में उनके कार्यकाल के दौरान इस प्रतिष्ठित सैन्य अस्पताल को सर्वश्रेष्ठ कमांड अस्पताल के लिए रक्षा मंत्री ट्रॉफी से सम्मानित किया गया। यह उपलब्धि उनके नेतृत्व और सैन्य चिकित्सा प्रशासन में योगदान को दर्शाती है।
सैन्य चिकित्सा सेवाओं में उनके उत्कृष्ट एवं विशिष्ट योगदान को देखते हुए सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल दिलीप राघवन को 26 जनवरी 2026 को विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (VSM) से सम्मानित किया गया।
अब डायरेक्टर जनरल हॉस्पिटल सर्विसेज (Armed Forces) के रूप में उनकी जिम्मेदारी सशस्त्र बलों की अस्पताल व्यवस्था, चिकित्सा सेवाओं, स्वास्थ्य सुविधाओं और मेडिकल तैयारियों से जुड़े महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों के समग्र नेतृत्व से जुड़ी होगी। सैन्य चिकित्सा प्रशासन और कमान में उनके व्यापक अनुभव को देखते हुए यह नियुक्ति महत्वपूर्ण मानी जा रही है।
सर्जन वाइस एडमिरल राघवन की पत्नी डॉ. मिशेल वास बाल रोग विशेषज्ञ हैं और उन्हें Developmental Neurology में सब-स्पेशलाइजेशन प्राप्त है। वह भी आर्म्ड फोर्सेज मेडिकल कॉलेज, पुणे की पूर्व छात्रा हैं और भारतीय नौसेना में पूर्व शॉर्ट सर्विस कमीशंड ऑफिसर (Ex-SSC Officer) रह चुकी हैं।
