US Navy Missile Destroyer Reportedly Spotted Near India’s Maritime Neighbourhood Off Pakistan’s Coast

Satellite imagery dated October 17 points to a possible US naval presence in the northern Arabian Sea; MH-60R Seahawk helicopter activity also reported near Karachi

A US Navy guided-missile destroyer has reportedly been spotted operating in the northern Arabian Sea off Pakistan’s coast, according to satellite imagery dated October 17, 2026. The reported coordinates place the vessel approximately 170 kilometres southwest of Karachi, in the wider maritime neighbourhood of India and the strategically significant Indian Ocean region.

According to the preliminary assessment, the vessel may be associated with the USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group. However, the identity of the destroyer visible in the imagery has not been independently confirmed.

Separately, at approximately 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time, a US Navy Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopter was reportedly observed conducting surveillance less than 70 kilometres from Karachi. Its precise mission and any potential connection to the reported naval vessel remain unverified.

A US Naval Institute fleet update published on October 13, 2026, reported that USS George Washington and the guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup were operating in the Arabian Sea in support of US operations against Iran. However, that report does not independently establish the identity of the vessel shown in the October 17 satellite imagery.

The reported sightings are relevant to monitoring US naval activity near Pakistan and across the wider Indian Ocean region. Nevertheless, the destroyer’s identity, operational mission, the helicopter’s role and any connection to reported maritime blockade activity remain unconfirmed.
