Visit Of Ips Officers To Headquarters Coast Guard District No. 3 (Karnataka), New Mangalore
As part of Maritime Security Module, 22 Officer trainees of 75 RR (including 02 lady Officers and 02 International Officers) from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad visited Indian Coast Guard Headquarters No. 3 (Karnataka) at New Mangalore. The visit had occurred at a time when Director General Rakesh Pal, PTM,TM had been appointed as 25th Director General of Indian Coast Guard on 19 Jul 23.
During the visit of young IPS Officers, they were given a brief overview on Indian Coast Guard; it’s capabilities, jurisdiction and operational matrix. The Officers were apprised about the basic maritime regulation and coastal security mechanism along with roles of each stakeholders in their respective AoR. The visit also included a tour of Remote Operating Station (ROS) at New Mangalore which is a part of Coastal Security Network (CSN) pan India including Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands. A familiarization sortie was also conducted onboard Indian Coast Guard Ship Varaha, an Offshore Patrol Vessel Off Mangalore coast. During the sortie, the Officers were given firsthand knowledge on Marine Navigation, Boarding operations, Pollution Response, Firefighting and Firing at sea.
Such Maritime Security Module of trainee IPS Officers will go a long way in smooth coordination during various Coastal Security operations and augment the cooperation which is already in place for upholding a strong and undeterred Coastal Security mechanism as these Officers are going to be posted as Heads of respective districts in their state once they join their cadres.
